I've actually stopped playing Fantasy Football a few years ago... I know, me bucking the trend once again, absolutely shocking ;) I did win several seasons at ESPN when I did played but it just seems to be a sport they are squeezing into a fantasy format that for me doesn't actual work as in rewards player knowlege. Really it is a season that is always a victim of the small statistical sample; that's the problem when you only have four games a month for four and a half months... it is also a game in which star players at key positions are about a 50/50 shot of being out with injuries.

I also hate the head to head format which is forced upon it by the low number of games, too many freak occurances and random luck govern the points scoring; it's always influenced heavily by who the teams are playing and what kind of defense they employ and you don't have the roster depth to plan around them. The waterboy can be in as team's third receiever against a horrible team that has one great cover guy and he'll put up enough points for that team to win while a eight time Pro Bowl reciever get 16 yards due to playing the best defense in the league. I don't like rewarding playing the waterboy vs the schlubs instead of a Pro Bowler against a tough team.

It certainly doesn't hinder it's popularity at all as a fantasy sport; but it's just too frustrating for me to play personally as a decade plus long fantasy sport junky.

I prefer head to head in everything but football, even though I play them more often the points leagues...

Don't know why..

We are going to need at least 4 people to play, but that is no fun. The more the merrier.

Although I like the CFL better (last seasons Grey Cup owned the total gong show that was the Super Bowl IMO), I think I'll bite and give this a try. I'll admit that I have no idea what I'll be doing, but hey, count me in anyways ;)

Currently teams are in Training Camp; which is of course being slowed due to it being so hot out that for example the Chicago Bears have had practices starting at 7pm to compensate. They have a long Camp followed by a preseason which is four games though I think there's an off week for each team in there now... they only play on weekends (plus one monday night game) so that's a month.

First preseason games are two weekends from now with the first one being this Sunday which is the Hall of Fame game. First season game is September 7.

In other news... what the hell. I'll play, but don't expect me to do any better than any of you with no fantasy footbal experience :dunno: It at least gives you people to pull for on Sundays because I do watch all the games.

I just hope Da Bears can reach the playoffs. I hope for the Hawks to not embarrass themselves or be the worst team in the league. The Bears though I hope can make the playoffs, I'd be pleased with that. This town is divided in summer by two baseball teams from the North or South side of the city but the Bears have the city's full support... and no matter how well any team does (see White Sox win World Series last year) this town is was and always will be a Bears town.

We gotta figure out how we want it set up before I make it.

We need:

-A date and time for a live draft
-Scoring type (H2H or Points)
-Max Roster Moves (can be unlimited)
-Max Trades (can be unlimited)
-Positions (How many QB, WR, RB, TE, K, DEF, BN do we want?)
-Scoring Categories (What you get points for...)

We can do that or use a prebuilt league setup, the choice is yours :-D

We also need a few more people. As of now the list looks like:

1) inSTAALed
2) thecoolstuff
3) BlackCats101
4) Weirdness
5) Minstrel

I'm hoping for at least one more person, if not 3 since it has to be an even number.

Just keep signing up if you're interested :-)

Yeah! Minstrel is in!! :joy: Now we can see what a real fantasy football manager can do (high expectations)...haha just kidding. But seriously, Minstrel could really kick our asses. And besides, what kind of TBL league would this be without a TBL admin eh? ;)

I like the H2H format but I dont really care about the other categories, you guys can decide. As for the live draft, like I said before I only have time either this week(which is prob not possible) or after aug 25, cuz that's when my finals end. Sorry about the inconveniences.

With time differences I don't know if we'll be able to find a time for a live draft; I think we have to do lists, which for football isn't as bad since there are a lot of positions. Hockey sucks as lists because players of the same positions have such different abilities for stats (snipers versus setup men as one example) so it's really hard to have a blanaced team. If football it's much easier to set people up in a list by potential.

Also, I think we should use ESPN since their football is free now and for me using Yahoo is a tremendous pain in the arse... and because I'm Admin I can do such things ;) So those of you who have shown interest II've sent you info for join the league set up at ESPN for us: The Blue Line Gridiron

I added more players to the rosters since there's only 6 of us playing and the default setups are for 10-12 people. For the newer users I also removed the necessity of play a TE as that's an odd position sometimes... hopefully the larger rosters and 4 player IR list (ESPN's default is just one!) will help soften some of the things I've mentioned annoy me about the format. I've moved out playoffs to two weeks instead of 1 and shortened the regular season one game so that the playoffs are during more meaningful games. You have until the 13th I think it is to get your lists ordered or they will go by the ESPN default lists whihc are always about 50x better than Yahoo's.

Oh, and if you think I was BS'ing about writing for ESPN or winning Football leagues there feel free to look at my user profile :-p they didn't 'count' our first year as correspondents as we were the test run to see if people would actually keep writing about their teams all year... :dunno: I do have two year's worth of badges there at least though. Another note they only make note of one win per sport; many of those especially for baseball and hockey I actually won multiple leagues that year.

The North Yorkshire Deadly Dales are born :D...our helmet design incorporates the Yorkshire sandy limestone colour with the menacing prescence if the bold black 'Y' centerpiece.
