All european jerseys look like billboard. That's how hockey business works here Most of clubs' income is from advertising unlike in North American leagues (where most of the income is from tickets).

They don't really bother me very much. They just look European, which is pretty cool.
It's quite hard to find specific numbers, but on a quick google search I found that Tappara (from SM-liiga) collected 2.4 million euros from sponsorship deals and 2 million from match tickets, for a total turnover of 4.4 million last season.
My question is this: Would anyone actually by anything because some company.....advertises on a sweaty hockey player? Brand awareness is one thing....but advertisers putting their brand on players unis is just a waste of their $ in my opinion. I mean off the top of my head I cannot think of a single company (SKODA...ok 1) who I recall seeing ads for at international hockey games. SKODA because..well it is SKODA. Lada probably used to do ads on unis too.
Even if I work in a grocery I never understood pub at all. Even in the NHL I still don't get why they're putting advertising on the boards. I never, never look at them and even if I read them I actually don't want to buy anything. I check hockey to watch...hockey, not the boards! I don't fit in that over-consumption society.
Someone will come in here with a study, sponsored by a company or team getting millions in sponsor $ from some company....and say SEE....it works. SUBLIMINIAL.

Well that's something, considering that (if I recall correctly) you don't hold the WC to very high regard and prolly haven't seen all that many games. Imagine watcihng 30-40 games in a season. Take my word for it. I remember what ads are on Espoo Blues' jerseys!
Brand recognition. Even if you are not consciously acknowledging the subway ads behind OHL nets you are still seeing them and companies want you to associate their company with something you like (you obv like hockey if you're watching it). The cost ratio on whether its worth it or not is another story.
Meh...see ads everywhere. STill going to do whatever it is I am going to do. Never have I ever taken a company or name recognition into consideration. I know that some do I suppose...but I do not. Save for in my baseball league...I make sure that when I have a choice I deal with league sponsors for the item I need.
But even in my league...with ads all over the fences and the scoreboard...I NEVER look at them, and when we get new ones it sometimes takes quite awhile before I realize there is a new sponsor.
Ads on NHL outfits--Have never swayed me to buy the gear that they are wearing. I wear or use what is comfortable and works for me...not loyal to any company.
Also notice that some of the gear players wear in the NHL have their logos and name covered or scratched out. CCM used to have this. Ovenchicken sticks were blacked out in the past. Not paying the league enough money to allow the player to show their brand. This happens alot less now than it used to.
SO I know this stuff works....but it does not for me. I just think it is ridiculous and noone will change my mind.
I do watch the World Champ, a ton...I am watching U17 right now....guess what few if any ads on players. Loving that. Canada-Czech.
LOL saw my favorite company on Czech helmets and shoulder pads. GO SKODA!!!
