Stupid Question, but how do you get your "dependant" farm teams to sign players? I have teams going the entire year without signing players

I'm not sure...the affiliations in the 1974 database start with real/historical players, some who are contracted to an NHL team and others that are contracted to their AHL or CHL team.....Do affiliations in EHM typically sign players? I don't honestly knowAnimal31 wrote:how do you get your "dependant" farm teams to sign players? I have teams going the entire year without signing players
From experience it seems that the "many systems that interconnect" often all need to be addressed before things work...the game/computer usually doesn't "fill things in" properly and sometimes things won't really work until a bunch of editing is done first (like unless all the contracts for individual players are set to add up close to a higher Salary Cap the game will ignore an adjusted Salary Cap).....things you might need to address are things like are there available players to sign? Do the team budgets allow for signing more players?

Re: 1974 db - Mario Lemieux as an 8 year old
They do generally. Ive had CHL teams (in my database all 27 C level teams are affiliates) sign enough players to feild their rostor, while some sit with a single goalie, and not a single skater, for 3 years untill papa club decides they've had enough of their 7th round bust.
Its the same in the AHL. Some teams dont sign any players because they have 2 parents, thus have like 30 players on the rostor at a time, but one team didnt sign anyone, even tho the parent club literally only had 25 players in the system
I havnt set any budgets yet, but my theory is that Dependant teams dont work right, and will never sign a player. Im changing all of the affiliates now, and ill re-test, and see if it does anything

Ah...now I understand you better! I thought you meant dependant in a general sense, rather than selecting "Dependant" in the Editor on the Affiliations tabAnimal31 wrote:They do generally. I actually find it weird you have some Dependant teams signing players...it makes complete sense to me that a "Dependant" team would not sign players, as they are "dependant" on the upper level team to send them players. Maybe it's the League that makes the difference (i.e. CHL might be different than the AHL)

Re: 1974 db - Mario Lemieux as an 8 year old
I dont think the league makes a difference, maybe a little bit, but im seeing generally the same behaivor with all "depended" tabbed teams in comparison to "independant" tabbed
I have no clue what to make up "semi-independant"
Just vacationing like a week as an unaffiliated ECHL team, they've more players than a dependant CHL team did in 2 and a half years
as well, a independant affiliated ECHL team has filled out there roster, like normal. Except so did the Dependant ECHL teams
Furthermore. I set all but one of the AHL teams to independant, 1 to dependent, and ALL of them signed players except for the ones that I think were "content" with their rostor, IE 25 guys
I have no idea what brought this on
--
I just set 10,000 players as UFA, and gave every team full staff, and ran a test with all affiliations as independant, and most teams signed players, some signed alot, some signed 1, and a few even signed none
I have no idea what im doing

Sorry if that question was already answered before but using your DB, how many years can I expect to play until I hit non-NHL auto-generated players?

The game creates some "non-NHL" players at start-up, and players that retire during/after the first season would regen into (mostly) non-NHL playersthegreaterikku wrote:Sorry if that question was already answered before but using your DB, how many years can I expect to play until I hit non-NHL auto-generated players?
The youngest historical players are 0/1 at start-up and so after about 18 years of gameplay (by about 1992 in-game) the last of the historical players would be NHL draftable

Re: 1974 db - Mario Lemieux as an 8 year old
Hey Nino,
can you please advise on whether I can use the facepack with 74' star and if should I do anything other then extract the file in relevant dir? I can't seem to make it work.
On another note, the low CA on the youngest players seems to restrict their potential growth over the years, I had players like Roy retire even before getting drafted. Goalies especially seem to suffer from that or they actually perform but have ridicilous looking ratings for someone playing with above 8.0 avg.
Which reminds me of another thing, is Hasek in the game? Do I need to run max size DB or whatever it was called when loading the game? There are a few more highly skilled players I couldn't find that had players from the same draft in the game.
Cheers

The facepack was made back when 2006 was the only option for a start date. Are you trying to use them with a 1974 start date? If so, you'll need to change picture names (reduce birth year by 32 years) to match http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... =88&t=6857m0fownz0r wrote:can you please advise on whether I can use the facepack with 74' star and if should I do anything other then extract the file in relevant dir? EHM simply isn't made to have such young players. Perhaps it can "work better" but it would take a lot of time to further adjust/test things, and it'll never be close to perfect/might not work at all (it took three years to get it to the point it's at now!) - perhaps someday we'll be able to edit Attributes in a saved game or add players to a saved gamem0fownz0r wrote:On another note, the low CA on the youngest players seems to restrict their potential growth over the years, I had players like Roy retire even before getting drafted. No. I found without their own "minor hockey leagues" really young players almost all retired right away. I never found the time to add these leagues for the extra young players for Europe/Russia (so once you get younger than teenagers there are few if any historical European/Russian players)m0fownz0r wrote:Which reminds me of another thing, is Hasek in the game?
I would recommend max size DB.m0fownz0r wrote:Do I need to run max size DB or whatever it was called when loading the game?

I see. So, say I want to put some young europeans in the game that don't necessarily have the exact age as in IRL, where(as in country/league/team) would you suggest I put them? No. I found without their own "minor hockey leagues" really young players almost all retired right away. Re: 1974 db - Mario Lemieux as an 8 year old
Depends on their age...if they're 16-20 they can go on the appropriate "Junior/U20" team that already exists in EHM for their home country.m0fownz0r wrote:say I want to put some young europeans in the game that don't necessarily have the exact age as in IRL, where(as in country/league/team) would you suggest I put them?
If they're younger you can put them in the North American Leagues, or create the needed leagues in the appropriate country
Here's the "minor hockey" leagues I've added. All have a "Reputation" of 1. The PreJunior league isn't really needed, and the Bantam league isn't needed in North America (when I first started I created them as "placeholders" initially when I wasn't sure what actual/existing team to place a player on); players age 16+ can be placed on existing teams in EHM (14+ if they're North American)
PreJunior Minor Hockey League - Upper Age 18
Bantam Minor Hockey League - Upper Age 16
PeeWee Minor Hockey League - Upper Age 13
Atom Minor Hockey League - Upper Age 11
Novice Minor Hockey League - Upper Age 9
Tyke Minor Hockey League - Upper Age 6
Mite Minor Hockey League - Upper Age 4
You could put age appropriate European/Russian players in the North American "minor hockey" leagues, or you could create the lower leagues (Mite-Bantam) within another country (ideally I wanted to add them to Sweden, Finland, the Czech Republic and Russia...but now my editing time is spent on FHM)

I seem to remember there was a mass editing tool that used a excel spreadsheet but can't find it. Can you help me out? Or there isn;t actually one? I think I played around with the 1st realease of your DB.. or maybe I just did it all one by one in the pregame editor...

Sounds like you're referring to the EHM Updater: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 10&t=11154m0fownz0r wrote:I seem to remember there was a mass editing tool that used a excel spreadsheet but can't find it. When you last used it, it might have used a command line interface. However, it now has a proper window GUI. So you might not recognise it a first, but it's the same thing.

Re: 1974 db - Mario Lemieux as an 8 year old
I just came across something strange in my challenge game. I was looking to make a trade and I saw a rookie D-man on the Oilers win Rookie of the Month. It was Lars Lindgren. So I went to look into trading for him and I wanted to check and see what round he was drafted. When I came to the Info screen, I got an error that I was able to click past. Then I see all sorts of craziness for his contract. From 1976 until 1984/85 he's got a pretty consistent (if low for that length) salary of $440k yearly in the NHL and $66k if he's sent down to the minors. Then it gets strange. In the 85/86 season, he's not scheduled to make anything. Then it's back to the old salary for 86/87. After that, he's got 2 unpaid seasons. Then in 89/90 he appears to be making over a BILLION dollars for that season. Then it's $2.3M before making nothing for 3 seasons. Then he makes $872M before making nothing for 4 seasons. After that is another $872M and then he makes nothing in his final two years of his contract. Somehow, his salary cap hit is $444k per season. All of this crazy salary stuff has made it so that his draft info and rights do not show up on the info screen. If I got to his history screen and look at the news, I see an item for June of 1975 that says he signed a 27 year deal worth $900k with the Oilers.
This is just so bizarre!
EDIT:
I don't think I could trade for him even if I wanted to deal with that crazy glitch. When I offer a player, both sides say they don't like it because of the financial implications of the deal.

I have seen a similar deal for a player in the BCHL. He'd earn $1,500 for ten years, then nothing for two and then $872,420,000 for a year, then nothing for four and then 870,420,000 again and so on

Maybe the Updater (SavedGame) could be used to quickly see/change the excessive contracts...

If you want my save so you can look at it, I'll upload it for you. I'm not going to touch my save though. I'm using it for the challenge, so I can't tamper with it. I just found it odd, so I figured I'd mention it.

And I've seen the same thing with another potential trade target. This time it's Jack Browschidle. The error is "v3.0.4 Area.cpp 523". Pretty much the same salary craziness as the last guy. I think the game is just trying to prevent me from trading for a young offensive defenseman.

I took a look at your database with the Updater, but the salary amount is shown as just $440K (there's no yearly amounts listed for a multi-year contract).bruins72 wrote:And I've seen the same thing with another potential trade target. Lars Lindgren is 21 years old at start-up, playing for MODO Hockey
I looked at the start-up versions of Lindgren. I looked in the 2006 version and compared it with the 1974 version...in the 2006 version Lindgren has a "Contract Start Date" of 6/24/1997 (not sure why it's 1997...probably should be 2002) and a "Contract End Date" of 4/30/2010 (i.e. a 4 year contract); I'm guessing Lindgren's 1997 Contract Start Date is probably based on the "modern player" that Pens66 overwrote when creating Lindgren
I then looked at Lindgren in the 1974 version, where he has a "Contract Start Date" of 6/24/1965 and a "Contract End Date" of 4/30/1978 (i.e. a 4 year contract)
In your database Lindgren shows no draft details in the SavedGame Editor. He shows a "Contract Start Date" of 6/7/1975 and a "Contract End Date" of 6/1/2002 - I have no idea why an AI team would sign a player to a 27 year contract!
I've tried to use the SavedGame Updater to update Lindgren's contract to see if reducing the years helps, but couldn't get things to work (I get an "Unknown updater file type" even though I'm using a contract_update csv)

My guess is that it's something to do with the CSD patch. Manimal mentioned having this happen in another DB, right? Has anyone seen this in a non-CSD game?
