World Hockey Manager 14

Post by Revo_Games »

Hello,

We would like to announce our game to the world called "World Hockey Manager 14" as most of you can guess its a hockey Manager game similar to EHM series, its big influences have been these games:
EHM Freeware (Thank god for Riz's gift to the world), EHM 2007, Dabo's Hockey manager (Big respect to Dabos work, hope he releases his game sometime) and Ultimate Soccer Manager '98 by Sierra (its game mechanics) we are Revo Games from Finland and have been working on this game for roughly a year now, it won't be released until next year but i guess this is good time as any to publish our plans.
There will be free beta sometime early next year for everyone to participate (who is willing to help and iron some bugs out for us), we are financing this game ourselves so no need for users to pay to test it for us. We are aware of the FHM (Franchise Hockey Manager) surely, but good luck for them on their series! competition is good for everyone as it pushes you to make it more better than the next one. it's a niche genre this we are making so please be understanding to everyone who is making these games they are not easy to make like some small arcade games, need dedication and hard work to succeed (and motivated people) Here is couple sneak peek screenshots, We are currently working on the in-game engine (the heart of the game) and we will be adding all the leagues to go with KHL, Liiga, NHL etc. + International tournaments will be in, and Multiplayer (Turn-based first, later real multiplayer planned) We will have all the editors available for people to do their own "Fantasy" leagues and tournaments, we have now ready League, Rules, Player and team editors, they will be included in the final released version (can be loaded up from the main menu) and its release is for PC/MAC/Linux (coded in C++) this is just a sneak peek so you know it's "out there" and we will release more information when we are more near for the Beta demo that is playable to everyone. Our website will be launched shortly at http://www.revogames.net as well, Some response for anyone wondering about the name, yes we are aware that it has been used long time ago, but it is not trademarked name, we are in the process currently doing so later it will not be an issue for us. We will keep in touch here and in our website when the time is more near for playable demo. We are not a big publisher just a small indie team of 4 people but we are all working on this release full time. We will have at least similar to EHM 2007 match engine in first version (we plan to do in future similar to retro old school NHL 95 style graphics for match play later but in today's quality off course)

Interesting start, that's for sure. I wish we could know more. I'm glad that you called the in-game engine the heart of the game.
Please keep us tuned. If you need some help, I'm here. I dont know much about programming, but I do know hockey very well especially how things work in Russia, etc.

That's great news! I'm glad to hear about all of this activity on the new game front. We went through several years without a new game and yet the community stayed strong and kept playing. It's obvious that even though it is a niche game, there is a market for it and the people who play it are loyal die-hards.

Good luck in your work!

Best of luck! As I mentioned to your friend by PM, I'm more than happy to help if you need help recruiting researchers, testers, etc on our forums.

I can see from the screenshot that a lot of inspiration has been taken from Ultimate Soccer Manager '98 (I used to play a lot of that game myself too!). I used to enjoy that game a lot, but my only suggestion would be to make sure that the game is easy to navigate. Sometimes with those image-type menus (e.g. a boardroom with different things that can be clicked to access new screens) is that it isn't always obvious where to click.

Learn from FHM. Don't commit to any timeline. And don't put highly-unstable alphas out there like FHM has.

Follow id Games' release example: "When It's Done". It will be available when it's done, and not before.

The screens are interesting. Just remember that flash and polish aren't as important as functionality, please. Cram as much info into your screens as you can. Every click you make the user do is precious.

Thanks, my friend told me this is good place for EHM type games, those backgrounds (USM '98) type are mainly for background decoration to make it look more nice, no have such function like click on some table or doors to move between screens but the intention is that when you go to a game you will go to the stadium, locker rooms etc. training, so you get more of a feel being there instead of some random screen with some data only, we also will have sound (Soundtrack done already) and have option for you to use your own music as well if you get bored of the one we provide, Main screen will have so called "Gadgets/Widgets" that you can follow your own league at all times (Kind of like small Ipads if you may say) that you can see League Standings, Next games coming, League (your current league) Transactions (small news that show you trades being done elsewhere) and inbox for new news (Have separate news module also) But we try to move away from FM style coding only (that all windows and everything is pure code, in our mind it makes the game look boring and also those games are Mute without any kind of sound just make it weird to play without anything. Our editors we keep outside the game because we don't want to ruin the game experience with 100 different edit buttons and options (to keep it simple enough so is enjoyable to play) you can edit anytime before launching the game by just launching the editors from the main menu, I think our player data model is one of the more advanced out there with both Backhand shots included for players and goalie model is more complex also with all the forms of the goalies to use but we don't want to give away too much information until we are more near for playable demo and launch, we will update regularly here with news of our progress. Great to hear about positive interest here, hope we will not fail your expectations!

We don't have any distribution deals for this and do not plan to release until it's ready to play as intended the number in the screen is just for start and easily changed, we fund this ourselves without outside funding so nobody is not cracking the whip on us to throw out the puck before it's ready to be shot out for release

Revo Games/Risto Games... :-p No no I'll leave that one for the conspiracy corner!

The game sounds ace already. I love that the game screens won't incorporate random things like 'click on the phone to make a call' that would just be - not good! Taking from Ultimate Soccer and EHM is just ace. Can't wait to see/hear more about it!

I'm indifferent with the picture in the corner...GM Hockey went that road and I really disliked that, I felt they went overboard. I don't care for cuteness, just what's easy to navigate and realistic. But in the end if it has a ton of depth it doesn't matter at all. FHM vs WHM ...bring it on! There is room for both :) There is at least on my pc.

I'm shocked to hear it is full time development for 4 people, I wish you guys all the best and I know I will be keeping an eye on the development of the game.

NHL 95...wouldn't it be something if we one day could control the players. I bet FM will get there one day.

The more pictures a game uses the better (player faces, team/competition logos). I've always wanted to make my linesups while having their faces showing. Same could be used in the top league leaders somewhere...

Like I tried to say before where players playable positions is showed in numbers (it's boring). It's a lot better to use a picture of all positions like Football Manager does (green=natural position, red=unplayable etc.).

Like I said, the more pictues the better. :-)

Here's a quicky sample I made of what I mean with editing the lines. Of course there could be stats/attrivbutes and stuff near those somewhere too. Clicking a guy you choose who to replace. Would be simple and easy on the eye. :-)

The problem with this is it then makes the user required to have facepacks.
