Post by Shadd666 »

I always hear about group 2,3 and 6 for free-agents... But what are (or were,if they disappeared) the groups 1,4 and 5?

The players listed below have been tendered a qualifying offer by their respective Clubs and are subject to draft-choice compensation and right to match. The draft choice compensation scale is based on compensation offered by the new Club:

$660,000 or below - No compensation
Over $660,000 to $1 million - Third round pick
Over $1.0 million to $2.0 million - Second round pick
Over $2.0 million to $3.0 million - First and third round pick
Over $3.0 million to $4.0 million - First, second and third round pick
Over $4.0 million to $5.0 million - Two first, one second and one third round pick
Over $5 million - Four first round picks

UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS - GROUP 3
Players qualify for Group 3 Free Agency if aged 29 or older or with at least eight Accrued Seasons and are then Unrestricted Free Agents.

UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS - GROUP 6
The following players qualify for unrestricted free agency, having met the requirements for Group 6 free agency. These players, whose contracts have expired, are age 25 or older, have completed three or more professional seasons, and (i) in the case of a player other than a goaltender, have played less than 80 NHL games (regular-season and playoff), or (ii) in the case of a goaltender, have played less than 28 NHL games (regular-season and playoff).

Not sure about 1, 4, 5.

EDIT: Sorry didn't read your question properly but I'll leave the above in case anyone was wondering what the differences were.
