Keep in mind I ask out of lack of knowledge but could that account for the drafts being very poor in the year 4-6 range? I do some self editing to the db's to make the first few drafts lively but beyond 2015 there isn't much that can be researched. After that I'm seeing maybe one star player develop out of every 2 drafts.Manimal wrote:Yeah, we removed all retired players some time ago. Because I find after the first 2 or 3 drafts, there is only really a "star" first overall every 2 or 3 drafts.

Yeah. that is why. We have a tough time just getting the first drafts work somewhat ok. Draftees after that is pretty much up to who is retiring.umwoz wrote:Keep in mind I ask out of lack of knowledge but could that account for the drafts being very poor in the year 4-6 range? Re: New Roster
I've been toying around with 5.3d lately. What I've been doing is using a RNG(Random Number Generator) within set ranges to apply attributes to the top 20 prospects of each draft. It will take away some authenticity(real top prospects may be ranked 14-20 and vice versa) but I think it should make for a good mix of varied players throughout the first few drafts until players retire and start bringing in the regens. Plus it will, importantly to me, randomize prospects so the game isn't the same as the rest.
How is this different than just entering in 0 into the pre game editor? Well I can set the minimum and maximum values so that 1. The prospects are an acceptable level below the pros and 2. I can avoid the sporadic nature of the prospects in game that may have a 16 for Acceleration yet a 7 for speed and a 4 for balance.
I'll let you guys know how it goes after some trial.

One issue I did have when trying to get the NHL 100% up to date was importing the staff awards history. The updater kept coming up with the various award names not matching even when I copied and pasted them directly from the template file. If anyone has gotten around this issue I would love to know how it was done.

I've looked around, I can't find a fix for that myself.
Still, it has to be better than the current DB. Lol.

I think the following link should work.
http://www.putlocker.com/file/5575695F2356F557
As I said I made these for personal use so wasn't going to go into a ton of detail but I figured I may as well share them.
Here is a quick overview of the rosters:
This is purely an NHL related update. I did a massive overhaul to all players contracted to or whose rights were owned by an NHL team. I also made some global adjustments based off the realism patch where I curbed agitation, dirtiness, increased sportsmanship and temperament and lowered consistency to get a more realistic feel for penalties and scoring. I also universally altered player weights to eliminate the bug where weight overwrites the hitting attribute.
The roster used the 5.3d TBL rosters as a base.
Change list:
Updated all NHL players and prospects – rosters accurate as at 1 October
Added some injuries to players who are expected to be out for a while. Injury types are not accurate but length of injury should be.
Updated 30-40 prospects for the 2014 NHL draft
Updated all NHL histories plus histories of 75% of players from the KHL, Czech league, AHL, ECHL, College, major juniors, SHL, NAL and FEL.
Sources used:
For contracts capgeek.com
For NHL rights – thn.com depth charts
Attributes of NHL players and some prospects rated from watching games- NHL gamecenter subscriber - watch ~12 games per week and have also watched various AHL & junior games (especially during lockout). For attributes of other nhl prospects and minor leaguers - using various scouting reports - hockey prospectus, hockeysfuture, the hockey news and whatever else I can find.
There will be errors - some ratings are subjective, some ratings are slightly lower than they should be because the game itself will progress them naturally, a lot of ratings are based off scouting reports which may be inaccurate. I figured an average scouting report is a better guide than letting the game decide player attributes randomly.
I tried to eliminate any 0 ratings for the players I rerated but in a lot of cases it was unavoidable due to lack of info
Things I could not find a fix for –point totals generated by defensemen are purely based off how good their team is offensively. You can give a guy like Karlsson all 20s in offensive categories but unless his forwards score a ton of goals he’ll struggle to hit 40 points most years. The highest scoring defensemen normally come from teams with stacked offenses such as Detroit, Pittsburgh, Chicago etc. The bug is annoying as hell but there’s nothing that can be done about it.

Would you mind if I copied your player career histories over to the TBL Rosters? I have my own research sat in a spreadsheet but I still need to do some work on them. Seeing as you have already done the work, it'd save me a lot of time.

I see you've essentially used a 3 - 10 range for Consistency for forwards. I've been running some tests over the past week or two trying to get NHL scoring down to more realistic levels for the TBL Rosters and have been using Bobmcgoo's Realism Patch as the starting point. I have come to the same conclusion as you - i.e. that we need to use a 1-10 range for forwards and the full 1-20 range for goalies and defencemen. Reducing goalie and defenceman Consistency just increases the scoring levels again (although I did find if you significantly reduce Consistency for both forwards and defencemen to something like 4 or 5 then it does bring scoring down too). It seems from my initial tests that the Off Role attribute doesn't really have that much of an impact on scoring levels. It seems this can be left using the full 1 - 20 range so long as Consistency is lowered.
With regards to PIM and fighting, I have found that setting all players' Temperament to 20 and then using a 1 - 16 scale for Aggression results in PIM and fight levels that are very similar to real life. In my sim, only one player achieved 200+ PIM (D.J. King @ 252 PIM in 76 GP). The top 50 in my sim ranged from 252 at #1 to 99 at #50. Compare that to the real life 2011/12 season, the top 50 ranged from 235 at #1 down to 87 at #50. Overall team PIM is fairly close too. In my EHM sim, team PIM ranged from 1,255 (Mtl) to 859 (Ott). In the real life 2011/12 season, the range was 1,318 (Phi) to 689 (Nas). As for fights, the top 20 in my sim ranged from 23 fights to 11. In 2011/12 it ranged from 20 to 10.
I tried globally reducing Temperament to 15 to see what impact this would have and PIM totals shot up quite significantly. The impact seemed more noticeable in the middle and lower half of the PIM totals stats and not those with the highest PIM.
Do you still have your spreadsheet? If so, upload it and I'll try to find the source of the problem. If there's a bug then I can try fixing it for the next version of the Updater.paul4587 wrote:One issue I did have when trying to get the NHL 100% up to date was importing the staff awards history. So what sort of players are you adding to the DB? In other words, what ages are they and what leagues have you placed them in? I'm interested to know if it's just a case of adding players born in certain years to the DB with the basic attributes set.umwoz wrote:I've been toying around with 5.3d lately. Re: New Roster
Yeah feel free to extract the player histories or whatever you like from the database. The NHL player histories should be 100% accurate but there will be information missing from other leagues - I didn't go back and manually fix those that didn't import correctly unless the player scored a significant amount in that league. Goalie histories were an issue as eliteprospects doesn't track many goalie stats - I only updated about 400 goalies and only updated playoff history for NHL goalies.archibalduk wrote:

I've come to the same conclusion as you regarding aggression, temperament, sportsmanship and consistency. All of your points I agree with. The one thing that would be nice is getting realistic scoring from defensemen but I don't think there's any way around that issue, it's almost entirely dictated by the team they're playing on.
I don't have the spreadsheet but I got it to work by using one of the older updaters (version 0.4). So it must be an issue with the new updater.archibalduk wrote: Do you still have your spreadsheet? Regarding the histories - thanks! That'll save me a lot of time.
I'll look into the staff updating with the latest Updater. I need to update the TBL Rosters in that respect and so that'll prove a useful way of testing. Thanks for making me aware of this.

Thanks a lot! I love the overalls, finally got to play with it last night.
Question - is there a way to mass edit birth dates or something? Kadri comes up as 15 years old and the CSD patch doesn't work for me. (nor am I a fan of it, I'll forget to load it! lol.)
A quick answer on this would be awesome if possible, as I'd love to play after work tomorrow.

Gah! I just can't get it right.
Some players are either a year old, or a year young, while others will be fine.

Thanks for this, but do you have a version for people who dont use the custom start date patch?
