Hmmm...my resolution is 1360 x 768 (and I use a small widescreen TV for my screen instead of the computer's widescreen monitor screen) - when I play I don't have black bars and haven't ever noticed an issue with distortion/stretching, but I absolutely can not play in windowed mode

When I have to use CTR+ALT+DEL to get out of a frozen online game my screen always goes all wonky/distorted (things "automatically switch" to 1024x768...I quickly reset it and all is well), but from the moment the game loads up and while I'm playing I'm using a widescreen with no black bars and no distortion/stretching

It has black spaces because the game is fixed at 1024x768 which means that it doesn't fill the full width on a widescreen display (my widescreen display does the same). It is actually better to have the black bars than for the display to stretch it out to fill the width because the whole display will be distorted.
OK. I'll get used to it then

Tried to install it again on my new PC with Win 7.
Says "error registering product" (I haven't even got the chance to install it ?!) then "unable to load fonts" then crashes with some runtime error :dunno:

I've tried compatibility mode set to older OS and running it as admin, turning off AntiVir, same thing.

oh, I downloaded that missing dll file eventhough I didn't get the particular error message that it's missing, didn't help. Got an error message trying to register it using regsvr, googled that error message, turns out that error message pops up when the file doesn't require registering and should work by just placing it in the correct folder(s), which it is. Sooo looks like no EHM for me anymore :bs: 8-[

I'm sure that fonts error crops up when there's a file missing... :-?

All I can suggest is uninstalling, deleting the folder and reinstalling.

Yeah, well, that's the thing, I can't even install it. I download it, run the setup.exe to install and that error happens.
Could you maybe share the official 3.0.0 demo from SI ? Download area link on TBL doesn't work. I downloaded mine from some games mag site, I believe it's 3.0.1, maybe there's something wrong with the file itself.

Nevermind, got it from somewhere else, same error

Thanks for pointing out the issue regarding SkyDrive. I wonder perhaps if the size of the file is too large for sharing. I've put up another version here: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0BwA0Nrq ... sp=sharing

Not that this resolves your issue...

I wonder if the LicCtrl Service still exists on your PC. Try this and then try installing the game again (assuming you can find LicCtrl):
1. Click on the Start Menu and right click on Computer (or alternatively right-click on My Computer from the desktop if you have XP/Vista). Click on Manage":

Image

2. Click the small plus sign (+) next to "Services and Applications"

3. Click "Services"

4. In the right hand pane, browse the list of Services until you find "LicCtrl Service" and double click on it.

5. In the dialogue box that opens, check to see if the Service Status indicates that it is "Started". If it is not, click the "Start" button. If the status indicates "Started", click the "Stop" button and then the Start button to reset the service:

6. Click the OK button and then exit the" Manage" application.

Thanks for your effort, I don't have that service though. It appears this service comes with elicense, so I suppose it won't be there if I can't even install the game

Ah my apologies. I misunderstood - I thought you were reinstalling rather than installing on a fresh system.

This one is puzzling. Normally these licensing sorts of problems are caused by any anti-virus and/or firewall software.

How important is using the CSD Patch to you? I have a spare unopened CD copy of the game. I can post that to you, but the CD version isn't compatible with the CSD Patch.

Thanks a ton, but don't bother with it archi, it's not that important :)
There's no guarantee it'll work anyways. Appreciate the offer though

I might look into installing some WinXP emu at some point, if I still have interest in it in a week that is, too much hassle right now.

I just had a quick question for you. I've been playing the Maple Leafs Challenge and have not had a problem until today. I started up my computer, clicked on EHM and waited for the game to load, but when I got to the startup, the load last game icon wasn't highlighted. I went into my C drive on the computer and found the save file on the system (C:\Users\user\Documents\Sports Interactive\EHM 2007\games) and it was in an .sav format, just as it's always been. However, when I clicked on the file to open it, it is now saying game won't load fonts. What exactly does that mean? I've been saving the game the same way every time and have never had a problem opening the game at any time, this is the first time that I've ever had this message. Is there anything that can be done to recover this file?

Thanks in advance for any help that you might be able to give me.
Sounds like the game has become corrupt. :( I know from other peoples' experiences that if the game becomes corrupt it can disappear from the saved game list (just like Mac saved games won't appear in the list in Windows).

Do your other saved games load okay?

Yes they load okay. I'm running 2 other games and have had no problems opening either one of them.

Urgh unfortunately that very much sounds like a corrupt (and irrecoverable) saved game.

The only advice I can offer is in relation to avoiding/reducing the chances of future corruption is:

1) Use rolling saves (so hopefully at least one of the saved games is recoverable).
2) Disable the Compressed Saved Games option (using compression increases the risk of corruption).

Both of these options can be found on the Game Settings Screen.

Sorry for opening such an old topic but I found a possible solution for this (after a long time this was bothering me).

Disclaimer:
I don't play the game in Windows but in Linux using Wine. This solution is only useful for:
- Linux and Wine users like me
- Windows users who are able to do the same as I do in Linux (it may be possible but not being a Windows user myself I don't know how to do that - but someone else may know)

Steps to solve the issue on Linux:

1) scale your display to fake a bigger resolution by this command: xrandr --output LVDS-0 --scale 1x1.1
2) run the EHM
3) scale your display back to your resolution by this command: xrandr --output LVDS-0 --scale 1x1

NOTES:
- The "LVDS-0" is your output (how your display is connected). On laptop it will very probably be "LVDS-0" or "LVDS", you can also see e.g. "VGA-0", "HDMI-0" etc for external displays
- The "1x1.1" says that you want to have the same width and 1.1-times your height. You may need to adjust these values if your display resolution is different from mine or you have different panels on your screen etc. E.g. for the same width and 150% height you would use 1x1.5 - I hope you see the pattern.
- After you run EHM and set the display back, EHM should keep running (at least it doesn't crash on my laptop) and you should be able to play it. It will probably not fit your screen well (that's the original problem). You can deal with it by:
- moving the window so only some not needed part of it is not visible (out of the screen)
- switching the game to fullscreen mode that should work even on smaller screens
- omit the third step and play the game on the scaled screen - this has the disadvantage that everything will probably be blurred a little

I hope this helps to someone, I'm personally happy I found this solution :)

archibalduk wrote: Wed Dec 28, 2011 2:09 pm The Try'n'Buy is the only way to purchase it. AVG may be tripping over it because the Try'n'Buy has to activate the game online and transfer a license. You could probably safely ignore it - but perhaps to be safe you could re-download the demo from a different source; e.g. http://www.gamefront.com/files/5543132/ ... 007___Demo
Sorry for the 13 year necroposting, but I get the popup telling me about the license when I use this.

I tried installing the patch on Windows 10, and because of that, now the application can't even run. It was able to without the patch, but it would just show the license screen.
