Right well I am going into 09/10 season with the ducks. Got to the Stanley cup final that last season and I feel it is a matter of tiem before I can go all the way. Anyway I have managed top pull together my team for the next season with just a few additions to freshen things up. For some reason though I am £50k over the salary cap. I tried sending down players to portland and also released one and let one go on waivers but still no effect. I think also the actual payroll is about a million under the total figure so I am guessing there os some extra costs somewhere that are just pushing this over.
Any ideas as to what I can do that I haven't done yet?
Had a right good marathon session tonight must have been 6 hours or more with me new laptop as it runs much better. Probably just as well this issue came up or I would still be on.
I think the problem may be that you actually have to clear payroll from your main club.
If for example you waive someone at the AHL level who is on a 2-way deal only 15% I think is applied to cap room. So in that case the figure you are clearing is the 2-way deal's cap hit not the say 650,000 their contract might be. If you waive someone they are only off the books while on waivers, if not selected by some other team who takes on that salary the only savigns you would get on Cap room is if that player has a 2-way contract.
The most effective way to deal with this is deal someone for picks because that clears their whole salary. You could also look to "trade down" to get someone who can fill the same role for you for less to bring you under the Cap. When you go over the Cap the game switches to the same kind of auto-response to trades you get at the last days of the trade deadline so you should be able to hunt around for the best deal.
But 6 hours is just a nice morning run around the neighborhood not actually an EHM marathon
The guy I put on waivers got claimed so surely he shoud be gone from the bill. I also released a guy seems a bit strange that there is no effect. I did try moving players about down to portland but the figure did not change so I see what you mean about it having very little effect.
Is being on the off season not make the overall costs any higher maybe say when the actual season starts it woudl not be quite as much?
Every guy that I have down in portland has two way deals now I make sure of that.
I could try and get rid of getlaf he isn't worth keeping but would probably need to release him I tried a buy out but he wasn't having any of it and I had already released Warren Peters and this had no effect opn lowering the wage bill. Though I will probably give it a go and hopefully someone is silly enough to take him on.
I brought in a russian lad a defenseman from OHL as his rights were about to expire. Basically I was going to send him to portland as he will most likely be a marginal prospect and really there for cover so I don't have to pull away real prospects for cover before they are really ready. I cannot send him to Portland unless he is placed on waivers first which seems quite strange as is young and not played pro hockey yet. I guess I could risk placing him on waivers but he would probably be claimed but it is a drastic option to try adn get him on his two way wage.
Another option I could do is to trade away drury but he is a good center with good experience I do have malkin and little who are good players. I also have Moran who is also young and is 3rd line potential but has only had one year in ahl since coming from college so maybe another year would be more ideal for him. Drury sits in 2nd line usually for me with malkin on line 1 and little on 3rd but getting plenty of special team time.
For the young guy that you can't send to AHL,it's maybe because he's under 20 years old...
You can't send U20 players to AHL,except if they were playing in European championships. Your guy played in the OHL,so in north-america,so he has to be 20 years old or more to be sent to AHL without clearing waivers.
Other way to make his two-way close on: send him back to juniors!
I think he was actaully 20 years old and currently the option to send him down is unavailable however I think it shoudl be available closer to the season properly starting.
IIRC in the off season the cap counts as the 23 highest paid players in the squad, in the regular season it reverts to the salaries of the active NHL squad, however many players that is. I don't think you need to waive or release anyone in the off season, but instead wait for the season to start
