Just noticed whilst working on the 79 DB that you don't have Reed Larson in!

I seem to have found Phil Housely as a non-player staff in his mid 30's by the late 70's. I'm not sure if it's just a name coincidence though.

Must be a name coincidence, as there's only one Phil Housley in the database and he's 10 years old at start-up

Anyone remeber what the solution was when I had draft eligible Major Junior players being signed by NHL teams as if they were free agents? Was it the "Player Info Generator" tool that fixed the problem? I can't remember...

I'm asking as it seems CJ is having the same issue with the 1998-99 database...

IIRC, it had to do with the date of first pro contract. Some players were written over already existing ones.
I think there is something in the Updater to fix this. Probably the Database Optimization or whatever it is called

Just wanted to say I enjoyed playing this mod a lot more than I thought I would in the latest challenge. Good fun to switch it up. My complaint would be the top teams are SO dominant they are almost impossible to beat in the playoffs but I understand that's historically accurate and almost part of the fun of trying to beat them.

You're right on both counts! Most definItely historically accurate, and I always enjoyed "building a team" and never understood how it could be a challenge when users were finishing above .500 right away and winning a Cup in year 2 or 3 (I even thought Atlanta was to good for a Challenge! HaHa)

yeah the Flames are probably the best mid table starting team thanks to goaltending and a strong PP line. I guess I just wasn't good enough to beat the elite

I could get by the Bruins and Flyers in the playoffs but the Canadiens always proved too tough.

That's exactly right.

There's no need to use the Player Info Generator any more. The Updater's Database Optimisation function is a much improved version of the Player Info Generator.

Ah Nino--the reason I quit playing the challenges were exactly what you state. Too easy. No matter what inhibitor rules we put in I found it simple. So now I play under an even more restrictive set of rules on my own....

One trade every two years, one FA every two years...cannot be a top level guy in either case.

My trades are only in JANUARY..before the devaluation of sales in the Deadline window. I am only allowed to deal with teams that are in the bottom three of the OPPOSING conference. I am only allowed to trade a player and a prospect for a guy with an expiring contract (Rental or UFA or RFA to be). I am not allowed to try and resign that player until the end of May...

These restrictions make it very difficult to make a move to improve the team, and I have to develop from within.

I also never scout the draft...I only scout regions, leagues and then teams and players. I never look at the listings in the CSS rankings sent out every quarter. IN April..I send one scout out to scout the draft (my weakest scout for potential)...just so I have a list.

I shortlist every guy who has 3 stars or more and is draft eligible....and have 2 scouts in the shortlist working to get more opinions on guys.

IT makes it much much harder.

But yeah back to the 70s...the challenge with many teams would be just to make the playoffs. The studs were so strong and so far above the rest. Now .... every team is one or two guys away from having a shot at it.

Hi all,

Great Update !

I haven't played the game in about two years and when I saw that update I immediatly started a game !
Great stuff to see Lafleur, Shutt and Dryden in my habs uniform again !!

Even after buying Hockey Franchise MANAGER I am still with EHM. What a joke is HFM anyway...

Bad stuff though, I was in 1980 and my plan was to draft Gretzky and then Lemieux in 84.....when Mario Lemieux retired at the age of 14 because he couldn't stand himself playing hockey. darn!

Should I start a new game or will this happen a lot.

Any thoughts, experience ??!!

See ya

Lemieux seems to retire regularly (always?) based on others mentioning it as well.
I know I thought about deleting the existing Lemieux and creating a new one to see if that helped, but I don't recall if I ever did.
EHM was not created with consideration for players age 1-13 at start-up, and there are some challenges...
I haven't worked on the 1974 database in months. I've been working on the TBL Rosters & the 1998 Rosters.

I imagine this has been posted, but I distinctly remember a vintage logo pack with created logos for the fictional teams. It may have been posted in this thread, but I really don't want to have to sift through all 43 pages to find it (or not find it). Does anyone mind linking it?

Does anyone have the facepack with correct birth years? The only one I can find is with the birth years adjusted for a 2006 start, but with the CSD patch and retro launcher, none of the player pictures work without manually adjusting the birth years.

Has anyone else tried to play with this DB in EHM:EA ? I just started two days ago, and I have to say that I'm loving it. I've never been that interested in pre-Gretzky era hockey, so I'm learning a lot of hockey history with this DB (and reading wikipedia articles about the players during the sim downtimes).

So, anyone have any idea how the kids progress in EA ? I'm a bit worried with them having so low skills in their draft year.

I forgot to do anything about the salary cap before I started, so I'm having to deal with a 44 mil cap. Not a problem now (all though DET, BOS* and MTL had to make trades to get under the cap), but possibly in the future, as salaries go up ?

Also, I've already found two double players in the DB. One is a highly rated 18 y/o canadian prospect with a facepack picture. The other is in a czechoslovakian team. I don't remember their names, and can't look them up right now. Is this also a problem in with EHM2007, or a result of the DB convertion ?

* I stole Wayne Cashman to the Rangers in exchange for some 32 y/o to be UFA bottom pair D-man. TBL 7.3 Rangers get their revenge for Marty St. Louis, forty years in the past. I didn't know who Cashman was before I made the trade, after reading about him I'm now kind of regretting getting him. BTW, Brad Park and Rick Middleton will never ever plays for to Bruins. Lots of wrong will righted in this alternate universe.
