Re: Official 13-14 NHL Regular Season Thread
I haven't seen/read negative things on Miller at all. The team hasn't had offense/defense for years. I could see fans being mad for not getting more but Brodeur/Thomas were also "big name" goalies on the trade block. Granted they are much older and only have one/two season top left. Carolina is also shopping one of their 3 goalies so its possible Buffalo could have not traded Miller then lost him in UFA to the Blues in the offseason when Blues don't resign Halak & Elliot. If Buffalo can get a 1 for Moulson that would be great but idk if they will get it (Kings still seem like great option)

First time it was Granlund vs. Granlund. Both brothers got points.

Re: Official 13-14 NHL Regular Season Thread
APparently list of suitors for Kesler. Pitt (Sutter, pick of prospect dmen, except Pens won't at this point put in Pouliot, 1st round), Flyers (also want Edler), Rangers (kesler hates Vigneault but apparently will waive to go there), Chicago.
Apparently has told the team will NOT go to another Canadian team, or at least that was a twitter report from someone yesterday in the know.
This is shaping up to be a sell market for Kes. Flyers vs Pens. Rumour is Shero said come back to him and give him last shot after hearing from all....wants Kes, and will do the things need to to get him. Could be a haul for Van.
But with it being Gillis pulling the trigger, he will find a way to wait too long.

Detroit was mentioned briefly in one report for being interested (not just bc of Livonia) but there is no way Wings will give up lots since Holland hates trading assets away despite having them.
Pens would be absolutely loaded. It times like these that draft picks are over rated. When you can get great established "young" guys who cares about draft picks.

Kesler also reportedly has said he won't go to Columbus, I saw that yesterday. At this point I'm really wondering how true any of it is surrounding him.jesterx7769 wrote:Pens would be absolutely loaded. It times like these that draft picks are over rated. RE: picks.... THN did an article of 1sts that were traded at the deadline since the Cap Era, and who they turned out to be. Most all have been busts of some variety. Now, part of that is because bad teams are the ones generally getting the picks back and.... well... they're often bad for a reason (because they don't draft well being amongst the reasons). So... is it Chicken or The Egg? At any rate, it appears if you trade your 1st you likely won't regret who gets drafted with it. One of those picks, Cory Conacher, would not have been considered a bust last year, but OTT just waived him earlier today.
I have been against the idea of DET trading a 1st away even to get say an Ehrhoff... but I think I'm coming around. Holland would just trade that first down for a 2nd and say a 4th anyways. The only younger Wing, prospect, or pick that should be untouchable is Tatar.
Teams probably shouldn't balk at offering 1sts. It was just a few years ago we were hearing "2nds are the new 1sts", but that may have been short-lived.

Re: Official 13-14 NHL Regular Season Thread
In addition to bad teams getting the picks, the picks are those of good teams, so generally much lower in the draft. Few drafts have more than 15 studs.
LOL re Bryz and the goalie go round in Edmonton.
Philly out on Edler likely as they picked up MacDonald from NYI apparently.
Pitt still hard on Kes, and so is Philly.
Never been sure if he waived or asked to be traded, but Kesler sure is drawing alot of inquiries, and likely would have regardless.
Luongo rumour--Washington.

Re: TBL Roster Updates
Wow. Luongo to Panthers for Marskstrom and Sean Mattias. Best part about this. Canucks traded Bert for Luongo. Florida traded Bert to Detroit for Mattias. Now....wow.
Canucks have 3 young Swedish goalies. Battle rages.
EDIT: Moved this here. Don't be noob-ish and post things in the wrong threads

Re: Official 13-14 NHL Regular Season Thread
Shawn Matthias. Wow. What a deal. Three young Swede goalies in Vancouver now. BATTLE ON. Well 2 in Van, 1 in Utica.
Line is interesting
Canucks trade Bertuzzi to Florida in Luongo deal.
Florida trade Bert to Detroit for Matthias
Matthias goes to Vancouver for Luongo/.
Needed to be done. Van now has 2nd line C....Matthias should be anyway, not great but a good replacement for the next guy on the block, and we all know who that is.
Wow..Roberto with Tim Thomas. LOL. PUMP THOSE TIRES!!!!
Some other guy who Canucks took late late late in the draft some year goes to Florida.
This trade is apparently (re Mackenzie and Duthie) a result of Bobby being totally widdled at not starting winter classic.

I'm just really happy to see Markström get away from Florida, never got a real chance there. He did underperform the games he did play though, still think he might become good.
Oh yeah, HBO should make a show about Thomas v Luongo.

Flyers gave up seemingly a lot of McDonald btw, especially being a rental. hopefully he resigns for them.

I thought Luongo would bring more to Vcr. That's cheap for Florida though! Anyway with his contract and all the Adam Oates there was since last summer they finally dumped him.
Bryzgalov is a joke and his career continu to looks like it even more.
Fasth never prooved anything so far. Edmonton probably thinking he is a superb #1. I guess now the rumors that Brodeur was going to Minnesota are dead.

Re: Official 13-14 NHL Regular Season Thread
Yeah it changed jester. On Sunday, when Roberto did not get the start in the Winter Classic. He was back to being totally widdled with the Canucks, and his agent called the Canucks and said...get me out of here now.
Gillis accomodated.
McDonald-$550K 25 min dman, leads league in shot blocks. Cheap and allows the FLyers to do something else while adding a pretty good minute muncher on the back end. Lots thought Isles would get a 1st. A 2nd and a 3rd is a good deal for Philly.
this is just getting started in Van....between now and next season, there will be a few more changes. Gillis and Torts may already have issues, and Torts is the owner hire. It could be a real mess in Vancouver shortly.
Duthie on the radio here, he is close to Roberto and has spoken to him. Roberto really unhappy with the WClassic. Roberto and agent both said...done with Van.
Roberto is in a press conference right now.
Ferraro says Matthias good 3rd line guy, not a good 2nd line guy. No vision. Is he American? I have no idea. LOL

Re: Official 13-14 NHL Regular Season Thread
The Lou trade is weird because I don't see how he fits in Florida. They are still an awful team and had a young goalie who could "develop" while Thomas started. They are probably one of the few teams who could eat Lou's cap number.
Oilers thing is just confusing and weird and almost amateur hour with goalie swapping, looks like something we'd do in EHM. However I do think Fasth is better than Brz and Dub but not Scrivens and as said before after previous goalie trades goaltender is least of their concern but apparently GM doesn't think so.

I don't think MacDonald is a rental for Flyers, probably have agreed terms before the trade i would guess. Markström was never a fit in Florida, they stopped believing in him so he stopped believing in himself.

MacDonald...not going to be hard to sign for them. Doubt they agreed before deal. Just made it knowing they could get it done.
Luongo--sounded extremely happy in his presser. OH, and Canucks-Panthers March 16. Hmmm..... Thomas start for Florida and Roberto request trade? LOL
Canucks are retaining fifteen percent of Roberto contract.

David Rundblad to Chicago for a 2nd rounder according to my twitter flow
He was in the same boat as Markström basically, needed a trade badly.

Rundblad seems to need alot of moves. 4th team. Wow. That is not a good sign for him. Will do well in Chicago though because he will be VERY sheltered.
