I've put way too much time into it already to give up, even if I did need to take a bit of a breather from it to do other things!

Re: 1979/80: XenHL's Roster Update
Okay, the WHL and OHL are finished!
Like the WHL, I had to improvise for some of the OHL rosters:
For the Port Huron Fogcutters, I used the 79/80 Wayne Chiefs of the Great Lakes Jr Hockey League
For the Hamilton Steelhawks - the 79/80 Hamilton A's of the OPJHL
For the North Bay Centennials, the 79/80 North Bay Trappers of the OPJHL
For the Guelph Platers, I used their 79/80 + 80/81 OPJHL rosters combined because there were only very short rosters I could find for 79/80.
I'm about a quarter of the way into the QMJHL now.

Re: 1979/80: XenHL's Roster Update
Okay I should make a little update... things are progressing well! I am now going through the Canadian free agent players that Nino put in the database, assigning them to team where needed/appropriate (in leagues other than the NA leagues I've already dealt with)... for players who I have no team info for 79/80, there are three options I've been using... 1, if they were playing in 78/79 and in 80/81 or later, I assign them to that team (or one of those teams, if they were diff teams); 2, if they are younger than a certain age (fairly arbitrarily 32 or 33) and I have no playing info then I'm leaving them as free agents; 3, if they are older than a certain age or if I have coaching info for them then I am making them non-players (mostly coaches).
This is kinda a tedious process but I've been making sure to do at least a little every day!

Re: 1979/80: XenHL's Roster Update
So! A milestone has been reached!
The QMJHL has been populated, and with that the major North American leagues are all populated. Like with the OHL and WHL, I had to take a few liberties with rosters to fill the "new" teams. These liberties were as follows:
For the Beauport Cascades, I used their 1977/78 QJAHL roster;
For the Cape Breton Metros, the 1978/79 Dartmouth Arrows (Metro Valley Jr H. L.) roster;
For the Drummondville Voltigeurs, the 1977/78 Joliette Cyclones QJAHL roster;
For the Halifax Atlantics, the 1978/79 Halifax Lions MVJHL roster;
For the Longueuil Chevaliers, the 1979/80 McGill University roster;
For the Charlottetown Abbies, the 1977/78 Charlottetown Eagles NBJHL roster;
For the Granby Bisons, the 1976/77 Lac Megantic Royals QJAHL roster;
For the Plattsburgh Pioneers, the 1978/79 Pittsburgh Jr. Penguins NY-Penn Jr HL roster;
For the Springfield Olympics, the 1977/78 Western Mass. Pioneers Am.JHL and 79/80 Fitchburg Wallopers NEJHL rosters (latter had only 2 players!)
In all the non-79/80 cases, I amended the birth year to fit, which isn't really an issue I don't think because all of these players never went higher than juniors in reality.
Another major milestone is that I've now gone through every player Nino put in the DB, all have been assigned to teams, converted to non-players or left as free agents.
What this means is that I can now move on to adding young guys born (RL) between 1974 and 1979 (eventually), and with populating the playable European league rosters.
A question: to add youth leagues like Nino did with the Bantam and PeeWee and whatnot leagues, is it as simple as adding it in the Editor? I'd like to add such leagues for European countries, too, like whatever Swedish U16 league or Czech U13 league or whatever, to have someplace for young Euros to play?

Yes. Using the PreGame Editor I first created the league (Club Competitions tab) and then I created a couple/few teams for the league (Clubs tab)XenHL wrote:A question: to add youth leagues like Nino did with the Bantam and PeeWee and whatnot leagues, is it as simple as adding it in the Editor? Re: 1979/80: XenHL's Roster Update
And another question, this time about the "EU Nation" thing.
I had an idea about that.
Given the EU didn't exist in 1979/80 as it does now, I would like if possible to set all European countries to be non-EU... and then, to set all of the member states of the USSR as being "EU", which would (if I understand it right?) make it so that for example a Latvian player could play for say Dynamo Moscow without counting against the foreigner count...? Is this feasible? If so, how?

Interesting idea! I have no idea if it's feasible, hopefully others will...XenHL wrote:I had an idea about that.

Re: 1979/80: XenHL's Roster Update
Now that's a very interesting idea! It is certainly possible to change the EU membership like you suggest. However, I'm not 100% sure if you'll get the desired effect. For example, EU players are still regarded as imports in the British leagues (and IIRC the other Euro leagues too). It's certainly worth a try though.

Re: 1979/80: XenHL's Roster Update
Not sure if the RSL has EU-members or straight up foreigners as the rule.
Sweden has no limit on EU-members but they do on non-EU members (only two allowed in game)

And another question: is it possible to change or remove "forenames" and "surnames"?

Re: 1979/80: XenHL's Roster Update
Load the DB in the Pre-Game Editor -> Click on Tools -> Allow Editing of Forenames/Surnames.
This allows you to change the forenames and surnames on the Forenames and Surnames tabs. Note that if a player uses a name that you edit, his name will change too. Also, you'll see each time you change a name, it'll take a second to update the list.

Re: 1979/80: XenHL's Roster Update
Thanks, Archi! I saw that option but I was a bit unsettled by the "your DB might be damaged by this" comment it gives! This is great though, it will let me fix something that's bugged my OCD forever - having 68 different ways you get "Evgeny" or "Evgeni" or "Yevgeni" or "Yevgeny" or "Eugeni"!

Re: 1979/80: XenHL's Roster Update
Yet another question: does the "rights" thing work for non-NHL/CHL teams? I was thinking , would it be possible to use that to like, create a player who is signed with SKA Leningrad Jrs, and then set his rights to be with SKA Leningrad?

I have never tried it, but I think rights only works for leagues with drafts in them

Is that retro roster available somewhere to download? It looks like most of work has been done by the author.

XenHL never finished/released her version of the 1979 DB (and she hasn't logged into TBL since last summer)HerrDecadens wrote:Is that retro roster available somewhere to download? It looks like most of work has been done by the author.
The original 1979 DB, created by Pens66, is available to download http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 116&t=9649

We need XenHL back and working on this project now that we've got a new EHM! I was really looking forward to this DB.

I guess it can't hurt. I just figured she's already know about EHM:EA because of the mass PMs Archi sent out.
