Research needed into Brit teams for CJ’s 98/99 data

Post by marksbros6 »

Hello all. Arch is attempting to expand the 98/99 historical database with teams from the old British Superleague and British National League, an era we’re both particularly interested in.

Thread (including some early screens) here: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 13&t=12165

A lot has already been done regarding the rosters and leagues but he needs some assistance when it comes to rating the players. We’ve got the Ice Hockey Annual for that season, so there’s plenty of stats but rating players from that alone is going to be tough and will involve a lot of guesswork.

If anyone has any insight to add to that era regarding a team or particular player could we post in this thread please?

Ideally, for each team it would be great to have a list of the players (Forwards and Defencemen) in respect to how good they were offensively, and a separate list in order of how good they were defensively.

http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/leagues.html is useful for rosters.

But basically any info is good info. If you remember a particular player being fast, or having a dynamite slap-shot, being particularly physical or a bit of a liability then it’s all good info to bring these guys to life.

A bit about the Mod:

It represents the top 2 leagues in the UK at that time, as well as the teams in the lower ‘non-playable’ leagues.

The leagues are not strictly accurate due to their hard-coded nature, but are ‘representative’ of the leagues in that era. This means that The Superleague has to have 10 teams in (so it was decided to add Braehead Clan as another Scottish representative) as well as Belfast Giants joining ‘early’ as it were. Similarly MK Kings, Solihull Blaze and Dundee all start in the BNL, despite having joined later. This does mean that the teams will be as accurate as possible for the 99/00 season and beyond.

Arch has worked on modding the .exe to change the restrictions on imports for the BIHSL and BNL. This will mean swapping the .exe over when you want to play with the database, which is a bit of a ball-ache but allows the rules to be as close as possible for the era.

I’ve had a play around in the database already and it is very detailed with every player from that era (hopefully) included, so if you had a particular favourite at that time then the mod will give you a shot to coach them! I’m particularly looking forward to taking on the MK Kings, London Knights and battling away as the Bracknell Bees against the Superleague giants.

Sadly, I’m not best placed to rate players back then, while I was aware of the Kings it was mostly from newspaper coverage in MK, and sadly ‘past-me’ didn’t think to keep any clippings! But hopefully we can get the database up and running and as accurate as possible.

Look forward to hearing from you below.
