Marking players [shutting down stars help]

Post by Jeep91 »

Hello! I will just make it short and sweet, I have looked around in the forums using the search feature, and skimmed through some of the topics, but I have not found a A) Definitive answer to my question/problem or B) Didn't understand it, mainly the prior of the two. Anyways!
I was wondering, when you can use individual tactics to have guys shut down certain players, usually their stars, have them marked, what does that do? I mean I thought it was common sense but I had Kesler and my various checking lines to mark various amounts of stars on other teams I play and I never see him/them on the ice at the same time the guys he is supposed to mark down anyway? So what is the point of it then? Am I just missing it or am I interpreting what it means wrong? Thanks!

You need to match lines, so Kesler or whoever you want checking the star of the other team are on the ice at the same time

So if I turn off matching lines all together would they auto match them based on me telling them to shut him down?
Thanks for reply!

No, you need to match the lines. Not turn matching off.

Okay, I have been matching my 2nd line to their first line, I have it marked down to have player X guard player Y, and they occasionally come on at the same time but there are still lots of times their first line is comes out and my old line stays on without my 2nd line coming on which has lead to 3 goals against me from the players I wanted shut down........... Does the match engine just suck or am I still doing something wrong....

Still doing it, I have their star (say Crosby) marked down by my Mark man, yet occasionally when the goalie covers the puck and their star line comes on my old lines stays on anyway... This has led to annoying goals by the guys I wanted checked, and yes I am matching lines, Anyone?

Well lines can't change the same time always as the other team (just like real hockey). Maybe it helps if you add less time on ice on the lines, then they'll switch lines more often.

Another factor may be whether you're playing at home or on the road
When changing lines after a whistle/stoppage in play, the home team always gets the "last change"
