How to get productive d-man?

So, I have this problem on my most recent game with TBL 7.0 roster with Ottawa Senators. Erik Karlsson doesn't know how to score big. I've seen him put on big points (in other saves) on AI manager, and he puts just monster points (90 or more) while detail level is none or quick sim when I'm playing on other league or so.

So far in 60 games he has 8 goals and 15 assists (38th overall points/defenceman), while im 5th in the east and my team scoring is 7th best on the league. And it ain't first time I've had this problem.

Karlsson is happy to stay at the team, he thinks team has good locker room atmosphere. His personal tactics practically makes him 4th fowrard on the ice, while Marc Methot does the D.

Mentality: Offensive
Aggressiveness: Easy
Backchecking: Hard
Gap Control: Tight
Puck Pressure: Normal
Hitting: Easy
Tempo: High
Passing: Creative
Shooting: Heavy
Dumping the Puck: Normal (due to unit tactics)

He carries the puck and joins rush.

I just cant get my finger on this, so any help?

Btw, meanwhile Methot puts up almost 0.5 points per game, 5 goals and 24 freaking assists..

I tried to add something little on the units, so I dropped Karlsson out of PK-units so he would have more stamina to play 5vs5 and PP. Then I dropped him from 1st D-line to 2nd, and added him to both PP units.

He finished regular season with 82 games, 8 goals and 26 assits. That means last 22 games 11 assists making him 23th among the defencemen. Not bad, but not that good for Karlsson-type player either. Karlsson's power play didn't bite either, as he finished with 2 goals and 11 assists on power play for the season.

133 SOG, averaging 1,6 shots on goal / game. What the heck? How is this heavy shooting? Meanwhile Marc Methot finished season with 8 goals, 28 assists, making him 16th among the defencemen, and 146 shots on goal, averaging 1,8 shots on goal / game.

Senators on the other hand finished 5th overal in the east, with 5th most goals scored in the league.

No but actually, this bothers me too, having Dmen like Letang, Subban and Karlsson put up 30 point seasons, if you're LUCKY, what gives?

Alas the top offensive D scoring less than IRL does seem to be a reality with EHM07


I've been doing some testing recently with the TBL Rosters
I ran three tests, the first was 4 seasons long and the second/third were 5 seasons long
I just took a look at the season points totals for Letang, Subban and Karlsson...

Subban missed a significant number of games during his 19 and 23 point seasons

Just had Bouwmeester put up a 56 point season, Doughty put up 53 points in 70 games, and Letang put up 42 points.

So in all it's obviously not impossible to get a dman to put up decent offensive numbers (but like you said less than IRL standards)

So I guess another question would be how do I get consistent production out of a dman like Karlsson, while keeping him on the blueline (And not moving him to RW which I had seen suggested elsewhere).

Oh and another thing related to point production of players, do you ever have players (in my case MacArthur) putting up pathetically low point totals? Such as 18 points in 63 games (I started scratching him in favor of other players cause he wasn't productive at all)

Cam Fowler, season high 84 pts. 942 in 1299 games in his career
Ryan Pilon, season high 48 pts. 263 in 606 games in his career
Ricky Kristoffersson(22nd in 2015), season high 73 pts. 268 in 412 games in his career

John Moore, season high 70 pts. 802 in 1292 games in his career
Drew Doughty, season high 56 pts. 630 in 1267 games in his career
OEL, season high 61 pts. 652 in 1211 games in his career

I'm in 3.04 but I don't remember the DB i'm using. I used the one who begins in 2006, not with the CSD

Hm, might this have something to do with their partners over their career? And possibly team tactics?

I also have frustratingly low totals with certain forwards too, including Turris with 6 points in 21 games (even being demoted to the 4th line at times because of lack of production)

Nope. Game just does not have the code to support offensive defensemen doing well in full sim mode. Only in the half assed sim mode.

I usually do full sim 45-50 games, then quick sim the rest. Then their numbers become more realistic. My head coach is in charge of the games btw.

Yes but then they become leading scorers overall. Try quick sim 30 of 82 games
