Which Is Your Favorite Hockey Management Simulator?
I'm new to this forum and had only know about Eastside Hockey Manager until now. I've looked through the other games. But I'd have to play them all to see how they really are. So that's why I'm asking you guys... For those who have played the other games, which is your favorite? And why?

Re: Which Is Your Favorite Hockey Management Simulator?
I haven't actually played any others (are there any others?), so I'm biased, but I think the only three games even worth considering would be NHL Eastside Hockey Manager (Sports Interactive), Eastside Hockey Manager Freeware, and Franchise Hockey Manager (Out of the Park Developments). From what I've seen, everything else is basically an indie, one-man, MS Paint project.
With that being said, NHL EHM was cancelled shortly after the release of EHM 2007. FHM on the other hand, was just announced, and should be released in a few months. And lastly, the EHM freeware is still around, but is very old and fairly obsolete if you can afford EHM 2004, 2005, or 2007.
So, my favorites (and only recommendations) would be:
1. Franchise Hockey Manager
2. NHL Eastside Hockey Manager 2007, 2005, then 2004
3. EHM Freeware

Re: Which Is Your Favorite Hockey Management Simulator?
Like many other people here, I've been playing hockey management sims for just over a decade now. I remember prior to the NHL EHM series scouring the web for ice hockey sims. The only half-decent one I could find was the freeware EHM game by Riz. The only alternatives at the time were some very dated games over at HOTU: http://homeoftheunderdogs.net/genre.php ... &sort=year
Since the release and subsequent cancellation of the NHL EHM series, not much has changed. There are games like SimonT Hockey and Wolverine Sports' FaceOff Hockey but they're more about fantasy/fictional hockey and/or single season sims.
There's also the GM series of games by Logique Eclectic, but I've never been very impressed with the demos of their games, but their most recent release is a noticeable improvement (GM Hockey Legacy - released last November). There's a very generous review of the game here. To be fair, it's not all that bad (some translation issues aside). The main issue I have with it is that it lacks depth and is a bit repetitive. It's got potential - fingers crossed the devs work on the depth. The reviewer on that link gave it a 77% rating, but personally I think it's more a 60% rating at most. By way of comparison, I'd give EHM a 92.5% rating and the freeware game roughly 75%.
In any case, FHM is the immediate future for hockey management sims. The flexibility of the database and the game engine is truly brilliant. I don't expect the first release will have the polish of EHM 2007 (bearing in mind they've written this game from scratch, so it's understandable that the international game won't make it into the first version) - but it won't be all that far off in many respects. I'm really excited by the FHM franchise - I don't think it be all that long until FHM is the OOTP or FM of hockey games.

Who exactly is behind the making of this new FHM game? And does anyone have a ballpark range for its release date?

No Manimal I have not. Crown--Do you read at all? That question is answered everywhere in this forum. INcluding in this thread. Wow. Not much for reading, so I guess I won\t bother answering any more of your questions. Cause you will not read the answer anyway.

As batdad pointed out, you can find info on Franchise Hockey Manager here in our FHM forum: General FHM Chatcrown wrote:Who exactly is behind the making of this new FHM game? And does anyone have a ballpark range for its release date?
But to specifically answer your question, Franchise Hockey Manager is being developed by Out of the Park Developments, the same company behind the Out of the Park Baseball series. More precisely, it's being developed by the small team who works on iOOTP, the iOS version of OOTP. As for a release, it should be out in about a few months. Unfortunately, that's as precise as anyone can be at this point; It's still fairly early in development.

Re: Which Is Your Favorite Hockey Management Simulator?
I tried it for a while when the game was still in its relatively early stages (before the NHLPA license and v2.0 was released). I was very impressed, but the user interface was a little difficult to use in parts. However, it looks like they've since addressed it with their upgrade of the game and the design. I don't know if I'm willing to subscribe to play (I prefer to pay things as a one off and then play at my own pace). However, if you have the commitment to keep checking in on your team, I'd highly recommend it. You get what you pay for - a very decent online sim.Manimal wrote:Has anyone tried WebSim Hockey? I'm in Brazil, with an awful internet connection. And only have it at certain times during the day. So forgive me for not being able to do my own reading and having to ask a simple question. You didn't have to be a dick about it.batdad wrote:Crown--Do you read at all? That question is answered everywhere in this forum. INcluding in this thread. Wow. Re: Which Is Your Favorite Hockey Management Simulator?
Yes yes I did. We have someone else from Brazil here. He has no problem reading the threads.
Anyway--not the point. The point is...instead of asking dumb questions to which the answer is two posts above your question.....read. It would have taken 10 seconds. If your connection is good enough to post something, it is good enough to read something.
And funny enough you read this post from me. Connection getting better? Oh and no thanks for the people who gave you the answer again? Or was the connection too bad to read their posts? Read mine just fine. Stop being ridiculous and be a little more polite, a little more industrious and a little less impatient and hopeful that someone will answer you immediately like you are on the phone with them or getting a text...once you do this and read, and search....we will have no problem Until then.....I am going to kick you around a bit. Because you need to learn, and don't seem to want to. Don't make excuses. Take the time to do the work first...then do it again when you get the wrong answer. Eventually...you will get the right answer.
Got no problem having you around. But you gotta learn to actually read the threads. And then when you did not find your answer....READ THEM AGAIN.
Most of us have been here for a long long time. 5 years and more. And have played the game for 5 years or more. If you ask a question that the answer has been given to once, it has likely been given 50000 times. So read read read. Trust me....you will find some great stuff. Including me telling other new members to....READ READ READ. SEARCH SEARCH SEARCH

Re: Which Is Your Favorite Hockey Management Simulator?
That is make five years i play EHM 2007 iv'e just start to be a descent player this game is amazing and Archi and the Guys of the blue line are also a huge part of the game i am not expecting a better product from FHM for the first version they need too reproduce a visual graphics of the game 2d or somethink else . B Stinson the game is not yet available and it is your best hockey simulation you played ?
But i am happy to see OOT taking the lead ..... even if the interface is not cool and seem very amateur we'ill see where they will let us see !!
Happy new year every one

I never said I played it. I said it was my favorite.Motleyhockey wrote:B Stinson the game is not yet available and it is your best hockey simulation you played ?
I've played EHM to death, from the freeware all the way up to EHM 2007. I'm now bored with the series, and the freeware is far outdated. But most importantly, EHM was cancelled six years ago; It's a dead end as far as the future is concerned. So yes, Franchise Hockey Manager is my favorite, and the one I would recommend putting all excitement into at this point.

For sure it is very nice too have a revolution you probably won many championships and now this game didnt bring you
any more challenge ? i am agree with what you think about the new game. You cant imagine how many games i lost in ehm2007 and this is the reason why i am still living in another dimension and still playing .
I will be in the OOt also why not ?

Re: Which Is Your Favorite Hockey Management Simulator?
I have been and will always be partial to the EHM freeware first. It was my introduction to text sports management sims. None of the SI offerings up to 2007 will still match the fun I got out of the freeware (which for the record I still play a decent amount).

I've gone through phases where I dig each of these:
Goodhockey.com
and
powerplaymanager.com
Both are pretty well done in their own. Though there are things with each that are a little annoying...I've enjoyed wasting time with both.

Yeah, no need to post the same message into multiple threads. I've removed the "duplicates".

Re: Which Is Your Favorite Hockey Management Simulator?
One of the reasons I want to pick this game up was fond memories of playing Hockey League Simulator 2 as a teenager. It was one of the early games by Bethesda (yes, that Bethesda), and it was quite engaging for a DOS game that could fit on a floppy.
I'm sure it's findable on various abandonware sites, but that's the first one I played.
