Yeah the Leafs are in big doodoo right now. What is it 15-4 in the last two games? And their fans are riding a reporter for the questions he asks, not as much the team. At least on twitter. Lots of Laff jokes, and lots of Shanny faces first crisis, but mainly slam Steve Simmons.

Well, the advanced stats society is at war with Simmons, too. I don't follow him enough to know how bad he is.batdad wrote:Yeah the Leafs are in big doodoo right now. It is time for Carlyle to go, IMO. And time for a few trades

Pascal Dupuis will be out for 6 months because they discovered a blood clot in one of his lungs. God I hope everything will be alright for him. He's not lucky since last year.

The Penguins have some good doctors catching this stuff before anything bad happens. With the exception of Letang, which I believe from all accounts was unlikely to be found....Vokoun, Dupuis, Matta and in the way back machine Mario. Good job Pens doctors.

Wow Jack Johnson declared bankruptcy with debt over 10 millions.
Worse part of this, it was his parents that were "taking care" of his money.

Re: Official NHL Season 14-15 Thread
Well it was Simmons asking the same idiotic question of nearly everyone he talked to. He asked both Franson and Phaneuf point blank if they were trying to get Carlyle fired. Franson response was great "Lindros no!" Then asked Robidas if he would be surprised to see a new GM or Coach tomorrow. Then he tried to ask Carlyle about his 'job security', Carlyle shut that question down quickly saying that the media was going to question it anyways.batdad wrote:Yeah the Leafs are in big doodoo right now. Tonight's game could turn ugly quickly if the Leafs don't a good start.

So he did his job. Good for him. Good answer from Franson as well. Reporter's job is to ask tough questions and quite frankly the fans should realize that Simmons was asking the right questions to have the players say something other than ... well that was a bad one. As Timmy Thomas would say not SImmons job to pump the tires of an absolutely horrible team who has no interest in playing hard.

Re: Official NHL Season 14-15 Thread
What's the benefit of asking it though? Players won't stop playing to get a coach fired, as much as people want to fantasize that it happens it just doesn't. But even if they were they aren't going to admit it.
What are they going to say "Oh you got us Simmons, we are actually playing like Adam Oates so Carlyle goes' If he was asking the question as a way to say 'You guys are playing so bad that you are going to get your coach fired' he could have done it differently from "Are you trying to get your coach fired?"
The players asked for an optional skate this morning, they were run through a rough 90 minute practice yesterday, but you can bet the media is going to roast them even more if they come out flat again tonight.

Re: Official NHL Season 14-15 Thread
To get something quotable from the players. Make it interesting. His job is to sell news stories about the team and NHL, not to protect the Leafs. Never said they would admit it, but at least Franson gave him something to run with that was outsidethe norm.
LOL at players calling for an OPTIONAL SKATE. If players made it mandatory and went out and worked their tails off...good for them. But they did not. Shows how much they really care.
Loosie--The LEaf organization is a mess. THe players are a mess. They have ruined Jake Gardiner, Nazem Kadri and countless other players under this regime and will continue to do so. Shanny needs to clear out his 26 underlings and do the work himself. Boot Carylyle, trade untradeable players for nothing. HEllo Mr Bozak, Clarkson, Phaneuf et al.
Oh and then he needs to start all over ....so the good news is the Leafs will continue to suck for a few more years.

Habs have been able to trade Bourque to Anaheim for Bryan Allen.
Bergevin did a good job for cleaning space after the season AND at the same time dropped two guys who were slowing down the team.

Re: Official NHL Season 14-15 Thread
I meant slow because Bourque was a plague in the chamber and that he wasn't doing anything good on the ice. Allen seems like a good guy in his own zone and his contract ends at the end of the season, so it's 3.3 millions that Bergevin would not worry about anymore.

Re: Official NHL Season 14-15 Thread
ANaheim won in that trade too just by getting rid of a total plug on the blueline. Allen is a worse skater than Luca Sbisa. The Ducks have done well in purging their useless plugs. Bourque will score playing with Kesler or Getzlaff, but it does not even matter...they got rid of Allen.
Bergevin remembers Allen from his (Marc) short stay as a Canuck at the end of his playing days. Allen is a great guy off the ice and picked Marc (another great guy) up at his hotel every day to get him to the rink. That is what Marc Bergevin likes about Bryan Allen...certainly nothing to do with hockey...just a good guy and a $ balance for the rest of the year. ALlen will not be back wth Montreal next year.

Re: Official NHL Season 14-15 Thread
I wonder if even Anaheim can do something with Bourque, when you're lazy, you're lazy. The dude was barely skating an was always missing the net when shooting. Even if Getzlaf makes him good passes it will not change anything. Best thing he should do it staying in front of the net and wait for rebounds, then he'll have some chances.

Re: Official NHL Season 14-15 Thread
Dude scored a crapload of goals in the playoffs last season. He is not that far removed from being good, lazy or not. He wanted out of Montreal and did everything he could in the playoffs last year, and still they did not move him for whatever reason. So...finally he decided to play like rubbish again. He seems to get jumpstarted a bit every time he moves to a new team.

Re: Official NHL Season 14-15 Thread
He never got "jumpstarted" when he arrived in MTL haha Yes, he did well in the playoffs, maybe to be sure he wouldn't be traded or the opposite. If it was for been traded it didn't worked since Bergevin probably told himself that maybe there was a slight chance that he could do the job. There's also the fact that probably not many team wanted to have him, just seeing what Anaheim gave up for him, his value wasn't good across the league at all.

Re: Official NHL Season 14-15 Thread
True dat, but I will think you will eventually realize that basically you just got a defenseman who is more like Dana Murzyn than Dana Murzyn in exchange. Luca Sbisa's older brother. Zero mobility and the puck on his stick is basically a time bomb. Good guy, but at best a #8 defenseman on a good team. Depth only, just like Bourque is.
Oh and by the way....the Montreal Smurfs just dealt away two of their biggest players for a 50 year old man, and a 45 year old slug.

Re: Official NHL Season 14-15 Thread
I never said Allen was good though lol You like putting words where none were said. And you know better than "just dealt away two of their biggest players for a 50 year old man, and a 45 year old slug." Those two players they traded were useless, so what does it do that they were "big" anyway? They were useless. So far Gonchar has done a decent job and both of those old guys are free after the season, which Moen AND Bourque were not. Bergevin needs to sign a couple of youngers players that are the real futur of the team. (Galchenyuk among those)
For a team of smurf, they're still #1 in the NHL, which is something I wasn't expecting since they let go their leadership this summer and have a very young team now. I doubt it will last but they're a good proof that you can win without been big like Anaheim for example. Oh and talking about them, Bourque will play first line with Getz and Perry Boudreau said. Going to be very interesting. If Bourque can't produce with those two, oh boy.

Re: Official NHL Season 14-15 Thread
Tough day for alot of people in Vancouver. Especially guys like Trevor Linden, Arthur Griffiths. Pat was THE MAN to them. BRian Burke, David Nonis, George McPhee...all these guys owe him big time.
So much this man did for hockey and for people. It is a sad sad day to lose a man like him.
BTW-VIctor Tikhonov died as well. He of course of Russian (Soviet) superstar coaching. Man was a mean SOB as a coach, but probably not any tougher to play for than Scotty Bowman. Maybe Igor Larionov or Fetisov could tell us who was more difficult.
Quinn will most likely be honored by the Canucks tonight, and will likely get into HHOF posthumously as a builder...but he would never have got in while alive as he was on the selection committee (head of it actually) so could not. He deserves as much as Pat Burns to be honored. TOTALLY.
Radio here is rallying for a #3 patch on Canuck jerseys this year. If anyone would do that....it would be Linden.

When is Teresenko's contract ending? Nice time to play good if it's ending after this season.
As he's on "only" 900k this season.
