Good point. I'm going to have to adjust that. The intention was for it to go to the end of September. UFA signings should be made before the start of the regular season. Also, I've got to change that start date. We're going to move it to the Canada start date because if you're using the CSD patch you can have problems if you don't start at your earliest available date.

I'll go ahead and make these adjustments to the rules.

What part specifically don't you understand? I might be able to help you more if I knew what part(s) wasn't clear. You've got a core to maintain. The players in your core have icetime requirements. No trading in season 1. Trades allowed in season 2 and on are laid out in the chart.

I'll just learn as i go i guess, the tier chart helps alot

One thing, I cant change the core in later seasons once its set in season 1 right? so from the core in season 1, 2 players can/will be removed for season 2 in exchange for 1 HG the other 8 has to still be there?... am i correct that far? :)

That's correct. You set your core before season 1 kicks off and then season by season you remove people from it and add homegrowns. It's meant to prevent total team makeovers in one season.

Was there any feedback on what would happen if, for example, after the first season we were unable to resign all of our core players who had expiring contracts?

This was oversight on my part jumping in with the new rules, I should have selected a core that did not have expiring contracts after one year. I lost three of the original 10 core players due to their unhappiness with the organization. I suppose it's only an issue with one who would have carried over as my eighth for the following season.

We hadn't come across that issue yet. I suppose we can just assign a small penalty to your season 2 score.

There is no restriction to how much we can pay the UFA? It only matters what tier they are in, or?

That's correct. Just remember that you've got to keep within your team's budget. If you get fired and you're over-budget, you're toast.

Aight, will keep that in mind. Dubinsky sure looks tasty as a UFA pick up though ;)

Maybe it belong here instead, i'm trading Gionta + 4th rounder for Nick Bjugstad, is that trade allowed?

Oh rubbish, i just noticed that i made my first mistake with the new rules... First off i traded my core Merrill mid season 2 which i assume is not OK, then in the off season i traded Cammalleri aswell so im 1 core short for season 3 :( I have played way too far to fix the mistakes since it's been like 6 months since i traded Merrill...

Eeek! That's not good.

We can figure out some sort of penalty I suppose. There would have to be one applied to both seasons 2 and 3.

Yeah, i kinda figured that... How do i fix the fact that i lack one core player, do i just replace one of them with one of the guys i have had since the start? I had Havlat in season 1 but removed him for season 2 , then i have Fraser and Clowe who has been a part of my team since the start but have never been core players... All 3 are still part of my squad...

Yeah, I guess for season 3 you can include one of those guys. Then just make sure to drop that same guy for season 4 because you never had him in your original core.

Do we have to play according to the alternate rules or is it still ok to follow the basic rules? If we are supposed to play according to the alternate rules, i kinda missed that first season player list, in my 10th game already.

Yes, we're playing this challenge with the alternate core roster rules. You can go ahead and post your core now.

only feedback i have is to restrict number of trades per season to 2/3 (still more open than 1 but not REALLY open)

Wait, I thought the tiers are determined by the amount of money the UFA is signed for... I'll probably need to re-read everything again...

We're using the Alternate Core Roster rules. It's the third section on the rules page.

So with the alternative rules...

I can acquire a first round pick (for a Tier A player) but I can't trade my first round pick away, right?

Can I trade my second round pick away? For example for a Tier B player? I suppose I do but wanted to be sure.

I understand (hopefully) the kinds of trades I can do but I'm missing a rule on how many trades I can do. I suppose this is limited somehow.

I suppose I can never claim any Tier A/B players, right?

The "original rule" pyramid isn't used here, right?

Can I sign an UFA before the first September 30? (i.e. before any regulation games are played) I suppose this is the Year1 so I can sign one Tier C player (referring to the spreadsheet). Is that correct?

If I don't sign any players in one year, I suppose I can't sign twice as many players the next year, right?

Thanks!
