Msvcr71.dll and other dll errors / questions

Post by sjsharkz »

MODERATOR NOTE: The question about the missing msvcr71.dll file has been answered time and again on these forums. In order to avoid further repetition, here is how to fix the issue:
archibalduk wrote:This question gets asked quite a lot but unfortunately the answer is buried in other threads (such as the Windows 7 thread). However you can quickly find it with a forum search for the dll file. Perhaps this current thread could be our official missing dll files thread from now on.

It seems that Windows 7 doesn't come with msvcr71.dll installed. This is why you get the error message. It can be easily fixed by downloading the file from here: http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-f ... ml?msvcr71

The instructions accompanying the link above explain how to install it (note if you have Windows 7 64-bit that there are two locations listed below in which you must place it):
www.dll-files.com wrote:Open the zip-file you downloaded from DLL-files.com.

Extract msvcr71.dll to a location on your computer. We recommend you to unzip it to the directory of the program that is requesting msvcr71.dll.
If that doesn't work, you will have to extract msvcr71.dll to your system directory. By default, this is:

C:\Windows\System (Windows 95/98/Me)
C:\WINNT\System32 (Windows NT/2000)
C:\Windows\System32 (Windows XP, Vista, 7)

If you use a 64-bit version of Windows, you should also place msvcr71.dll in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\

Make sure overwrite any existing files (but make a backup copy of the original file).

Reboot your computer.

If the problem still occurs, try the following:
Open Windows Start menu and select "Run...".
Type CMD and press Enter (or if you use Windows ME, type COMMAND).
Type regsvr32 msvcr71.dll and press Enter.
There is another article here that also explains about the missing msvcr71.dll (and also msvcp71.dll) which is basically the same as the quote above.
Please remember to perform a forum search before posting a new topic.

problem reinstalling (msvcr71.dll error)

Post by class1724 »

Sorry if this is the wrong place for this post. I recently had to restore my comp to the original system settings. I have successfully reinstalled EHM but when I try to install patch v.4 I get an error that msvcr71.dll cannot be found. I am also having problems when trying to install the new roster that was just released but I kinda figured the problem was related. Any help would be appreciated.

Yes, this is in the wrong place. This forum is for game addons, as the name would point out.

Anyways, I think I had this problem once, not sure, but try installing this file to your Windows folder (not sure which folder, look around a bit) and it should work. If not, we generally recommend SI Forums for this kinda technical stuff. In here, the correct forum for this would've been EHM General Discussion.

Moved to a more suitable forum. Also added error type on the subject, so that anyone else with similar problem will find the answer quickly.

Missing msvcr71.dll File

Post by Mo9 »

ehm2007.exe - Unable To Locate Component

This application has failed to start because msvcr71.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem.

This is what windows tells me when I try to start EHM! I tried re-installing but, the same message comes up, what can I do to fix it and start playing again?

Thanks, Brendan.

Would you be able to post the error you're getting, if any? Also, what operating system are you on?

I suggest searching for and grabbing that .dll file from the internets, then installing it.

Good to see you got it sorted  .

I've actually been getting this same error the last couple of times I've installed EHM. I'm kind of curious as to why it happens; It's certainly not normal for the game, or the 3.0.4 patch... it's just sometimes :dunno: .

Re: EHM-system error?

This question gets asked quite a lot but unfortunately the answer is buried in other threads (such as the Windows 7 thread).

Type regsvr32 msvcr71.dll and press Enter.

That's a common thing with Windows, where this particular file for some reason disappears. It's not EHM related. You can get it back online. Google msvcr71.dll and place the file to the instructed folder.

Which patch are you talking about?

If I understood you correctly, you're installing the game fresh -- it was not on your computer before?

Then:

1. Run the EHM.exe-file to install the game: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... =82&t=9526
2. Run the game patch-file: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... =82&t=6627
3. Once you run the game, you should get the option of trying the game for six months -- game time -- or you may activate your license.
4. As for the CSD patch... that's a whole another deal. That is a tool created by Archi to adjust the game's start date. You can find info on it here in the forums.

Sorry if I misunderstood your problem.
