Salary Cap vs. Averaged Salaries

So what's the deal with the averaged salaries bit? I finished a season and lost a whole whack of guys to free agency but my averaged salary figure is 2 million HIGHER than it was before they left. The total annual player salaries is down, however, I'll be over the cap if that figure is below 44 million and the averaged figure is above it. Any collective bargaining gurus out there able to help?

I'm not 100% sure,but i think the average salary indicated in the finances section is the one of the league. It allows you to make some comparaison between your team and the rest of the league. If the averaged salary of the league is over the salary cap,it indicates that many teams are over the cap,so they will have to trade some players or place them on waivers to be back under cap. So keep a close eye on those teams and be ready to take a good opportunity and make a good deal with them ;)

I'm not saying you're wrong but I went through the offseason and made a few acquisitions....my player salary was under the cap but the average salary was higher. I went to proceed to the regular season and was shown a prompt telling me that I had to have my average salary under 44 million....

Part of the confusion may be that now the Cap system is fully implemented in the game so your contract amounts and salary cap 'hits' can be two very different figures. If you offer a guy a contract for $1,000,000 for three years he will show as 1mil for three years. But, if you offer a guy a three year one mil deal and add a $500,000 singing bonus that will make his Cap Hit $1,167,000 per year for the duration of his contract even though it's a three year 1mil per deal.

This is the difference between 'Salary' and 'Salary Against the Cap' so that can be confusing depending on the view you are looking at,

Another portion of this us that the Cap system is only enforced during the playing year. In the offseason the figure you see is based only upon the Top 24 contract amounts your team is carrying, so tha figure and the figure teams go into camp and especially the regular season with again can be completely different as well.
