Well if they're going to use fake logic to have a static cap, then should we not be using that same fake logic to bring contracts starting next year down to the same "portion" of the cap that they should be? ie. Toews/Kane contracts being 10.5/73 percent of the in game 69M cap? Because the in game logic is clearly lacking in the cap crunch department. I just told you somewhere else. Player salaries are static. YOu just cannot keep the same team together as players age and develop. Overall player salaries are static. I repeat overall players salaries are static. Just you cannot have the same guys on the same team forever. I repeat one more time for those of you who just do not seem to listen.

One thing I noticed is the defensemen are treated very harshly. In my game I have seen news articles criticizing Johnny Boychuck and Ekman-Larsson when their skills are still pretty high, seems players like this should never have their roster spot questioned. Hopefully its just reputation
Also consistency seems to be a pretty big issue. Sure I expect to have good games and some bad games and of course tactics match ups but it seems a bit extreme. One game I can win 8-3 against a "good" team and the next night lose 0-7 to a "good' team. Just seems extreme even if getting outplayed.

Those criticisms are based on average rating. I had it happen to me and looked at Boychuk and for the rep he has and the skills he has he should have been doing much better than the 6.5 rating average he had. I have yet to find a smoking criticism of a guy that appeared unwarranted (like Crosby getting one even though was over a point a game with 8 or above rating. Underperformance based on rep is where those media criticisms come from. Check their average ratings, and ratings over say their last 10 games (in their game log)

I picked up Martin Hanzel close to the deadline and he only played 9 games before getting injured. While he was not real good or anything he gets criticized the day after coming off the DL(about 3 weeks injured) Pretty bad timing for that I'd think.

I'm new to the game (just picked it up a few days ago) and have been glued to my laptop ever since. I decided to start out with the Panthers in the NHL (DLd the rosters everyone seems to be using) and figured it would be a real challenge to build them up into a contender. But, like many people have mentioned, scoring seems too high when you actually play the games as opposed to simming the games while on vacation.
Out of curiosity I saved my game after just just two games and went on vacation for the entire first season and things went about as expected. My team finished near the bottom with no real scoring punch to speak of really netting only 26 wins. Ovechkin finished tops in goal scoring with 60 and 113 total points. There were only two or three other players that scored over 100 with no real surprises. Everything looked realistic as far as stats go. The Sharks and Lightning made the cup finals knocking Pittsburgh and Anaheim out in the conference finals. The Bolts were the eventual winners. My leading scorer had 25 goals which is about what I expected from the Panthers.
So I went back to my original save file and started it again by managing and playing every game. I am currently 17-13 (two OT losses) which is obviously going better than the simmed results so far. But the big thing is the scoring. I lead the league in goals scored at 4.27 pg and I didn't even pick up any decent offensive talent. I am 23rd in GAA at 3.40 with Luongo sitting 38th in the league in GAA with a 3.16 and 17th in save % at .910. Basically every game I play is a high scoring affair on both sides. In just my fifth game of the season I beat the Caps 10-4 after going up 7-1 in the first period. I scored 9 goals just a couple game later. The lowest scoring game I have played was 2-1 with more than half the games seeing one of the teams score 5 or more goals. To further nail home the point, Brad Boyes is fifth in the league in scoring with 16 goals and 42 points after 30 games.
Now, I may or may not make the playoffs because I seem glued to the 8th spot in the conference so the wins and losses don't seem too bad, but the scoring could use some tweaking. The CPU teams also seem extremely tough to trade with even when offering up things they claim to be looking for. I've only managed to complete one trade so far despite trying many times to make more than fair offers to multiple teams.

In my last save, Tampa Bay drafted McDavid, never signed him and he became UFA a few years later...

So i'm trying this game out. I'm interested only in GM position. Giving head coach all the work while I only deal with the transfers. Is it possible to accomplish anything this way? Does getting better coach help, or is everything up to players?

How depth is the AI coach tactics? Do they have hidden attributes or tendencies or is everything random? I am thinking about letting my coach handle tactics.

Too many shots lead to too many goals.
Daniel Sedin had 132pts in 77 games

Depends on the coach. I Find it a MUCH easier game when I am coaching, and players develop better under my coaching techniques. But....with the AI teams in my games players still develop well...so hard to say.

I've just barely started playing, about 10 games into my first NHL season. I've noticed a few odd things, that may not be representative for the experience as i play further. Anyway, before the season started i encouraged my two enforcer-types to fight, which is apropriate i think. However, the first game was probably no more than 10 minutes old before both of them were booted off with game misconducts for instigating. Same thing happened to one of them in the next game, so there's no fighting encouraged from my part any more.
Another thing that's been bothering me is after these 10 or so games i've gotten no production at all from my 3rd or 4th forward line. Not a single point. TOI is reduced for them of course, but the third line at least, still gets in respectable playing time.
Also i've noticed, when simulating with extended highlights, that the face-off after a penalty is called isn't taken in the offending team's zone. And this may just be me seeing things, but i thought i saw occurances of the team icing the puck changing personnel anyway.

I think in-game terminology is that 'encourage' is actually that, you're telling them to go out and get in a fight. 'Allowed' I think is the more typical modern 'Enforcer' style: putting someone out who can respond to fights and protect players.
That was true of the older versions anyway, not too sure about 'EA' as I've not played it much.

Yeah, i think you're right. It happening within the first few minutes makes it seem like they're actively looking for a fight at all times.
