EHM 07 or EA?

Post by Weasel »

Hi All; Don't post very much but I have been reading all sorts of things about EA trying to decide if I should give up my beloved 07, which I think is fantastic, or stick with it and skip EA. After reading a ton of posts here on TBL about EA it seems that the newer version isn't an upgrade over 07. I may be wrong, I hope I am wrong, but from what I read I don't think so. I know they say that EA, if enough people support it, will be upgraded as time goes on, but there is no confirmation of that, the EA version could be the final version (no?) and with it you would be stuck with all the bugs. My biggest worry is the 6 games in a row with only a single day off, and star players being put on waivers just to mention a few.

I have noticed a lot of players have shelved their 07 version for EA, I wonder if they regret it or not, do you find it is worth it? I am on the side line right now, totally confused and not sure if I should drop the $20 only to see myself stick with 07. :-k

So, any regrets, do you think it is worth it, is it just a nicer looking 07?

(sorry if this has been asked before, or is in the wrong spot.)

Cheers all!

Is absolutely an upgrade. First off... it has everything 07 does minus a few leagues. Feature wise it has all of it. Where it becomes better is the major issues that plagued 07.

-Smaller players no longer get huge AvR disadvantages just for being small(this was huge in 07)
-Max salary doesn't give a 50k cap hit(ruined every game of 07 eventually)
-UI is much easier to navigate
-The zoomed match engine is really an improvement I never thought I'd appreciate, but do

The addition of player roles is huge. 07 only had these for goalies, what this means for EA is that just based on potential, current ability and one of the 50ish roles the game can establish where a players attributes should be distributed. We've been BEGGING for this.

We used to have 2 options, hard edit for values so that players end up balanced by entering their attributes manually(unrealistic for young players, as they shouldn't have a 100% success rate). Or we could set attributes to 0, which would randomly generate a value. This means that there's a good chance that a player would be crippled with one very, very bad attribute. That, and the game will have a better idea of where developmental progress should go.

Sure, there are bugs, but here's the great part...

This isn't a finished product, and it's already better than 07. This game is a work in progress that the community will help shape. You seem to have it confused, it IS confirmed that they will work to improve it, what is not confirmed is whether this will become a yearly release with licensing(based on support). Features, feedback on the sim are all guided by us! My advice, get in at 20 dollars before it goes up.

Since EA came out I've read all the posts on TBL and SI, and I didn't get the impression you did

SI has said the Early Access period will be months, not years. They also noted that during this time updates will be released every two weeks! Concerns like the schedule have already been noted as addressed/fixed by Riz

For me...absolutely no regrets, totally worth it, and definitely not just a nicer looking 07

FYI - SI has said "a play-off tree view will be rolled out in the first update, with some major improvements to player progression following in the second. At some point in the Early Access cycle we also plan to include a network game mode and some further playable leagues. And we’ll be looking at features that you, the community, suggest – if we like them (and they’re technically achievable) then we’ll do what we can to get them into the final game."

Thanks for the quick replies guys.

Poor wording when I said "not an upgrade over 07", should have been more specific. I was talking about lopsided scores and players not playing like RL.

What exactly do you mean by this: "The addition of player roles is huge. 07 only had these for goalies, what this means for EA is that just based on potential, current ability and one of the 50ish roles the game can establish where a players attributes should be distributed.", what roles? Do you mean power forward, quick forward etc?

Can I ask: How is the scouting in EA? One thing I noticed, and kind of dislike in 07, is that scouts for the draft will give rave reviews for a player so you draft him, then invite him to camp and they call him a bum.

I didn't spend much time playing EHM 07 but i can honestly say it's an upgrade for sure and it's only going to get better. The only thing that is stopping me from loving this game at this point is the fact that the scoring is way too high. It needs to be lowered by like 25-30%. Other than that and a few other slightly annoying things it's worth the money.

I bought it. I don't think I will play it until it is fixed fully, right now my Leafs are destroying the league and I don't want to quit the game.

Did a fantasy draft and got Crosby and managed to win the cup twice in about 8 years, and this July I picked up Ovechkin to play with him, just destroying the competition. With Stamkos as my 2nd line center (drafted him) and Turris as my 3rd I am a juggernaut.

EA

Easy

It has all of the same functionality, as well as current Database support. It is NOT an ugrade. But buy it knowing that it will EVENTUALLY be an upgrade

Personally, I'm completely satisfied with EHM:EA. EHM 2007 has found a permanent spot on the shelf, as I have no reason to ever go back.

I think too that this game is worth it. Remember - more of us will pay and play then they'll be more motivated to make this game perfect. With our support it could be a game for years. Yesterday I bought it and after first look it's really worth. After winning 2 times Tipsport Extraliga, KHL and make a final in Conference with CBJ i stopped with EHM 2007. Now I'm back. New structures of leagues, players, graphics. This must be a good for players were waiting. I hope that they will listen and add more leagues and lowers levels and this game could be a perfect. Hope to see a new updates on every 2 weeks :) for now i think EHM:EA > EHM 2007 and I dont want back.

I would (and do) choose EHM:EA over 2007. If not for any other reason, the fact that there is a possibility that someone will fix reported issues and proposed enhancements is enough for me by itself.
