I don't believe there's much you can do about it. Your board will set the budget and your job is to remain within the budget. If the team loses money despite the fact that you're not over-spending, then they may reduce your budget, but if they do not, it's not your problem. :dunno:

One thing you can do, is spend less then your budget, but that might not help either. Some teams just have unhealthy finances, period.

I have that problem with my leafs also.

Everything is in order, but the balance gradually drops down to eventually when I get the injection message.

The board is really happy though, everything seems in order. :dunno:

How do you deal with AHL players wanting callups ie Ronalds Kenins, Alexandre Grenier from the Utica Comets to the Vancouver Canucks? They get unhappy if you don't call them up...

What I would do, is simply answer myself these questions:

1. Is he good enough to get a call up?
YES: Question #2
NO: Question #3

2. Can I open a roster spot for him? If needed, is there someone I can move down or simply trade for prospects/picks?
YES: Call him up
NO: Question #3

3. Do I believe in his potential? Does he has a spot in my team... somewhere in the future
YES: Stop whining kid.. you will get your chance one day.
NO: Bye bye! He's getting traded.

I pay zero attention to them. THey can whine all they want. If they are good enough they get a call eventually. If not...they do not get a new contract if still whining.

How do I build a good defensive core? I traded for Ian Cole in EHM:EA but my team (The blue jackets) concede more than we score.

My defensive core looks something like Kevan Miller, Frederic St-Denis, Ian Cole, Dalton Prout, Stollery, Jack Johnson, Ryan Murray. Every goal we score, we concede. I'm almost certain it's my defense but I don't know what I can improve. Maybe I made the mistake of bring up St-Denis.

To have full control of your AHL affiliate, you need to be a GM of that team. You could create a new GM in your current save and assign him to your AHL Team?

So I'm almost at tdl in first season with pens. So far we're standing at 8th place but teams are really close so anything between 6th and 11th can happen. Obviously I'm looking to strengthen my team for long term. I've identified some missing pieces and bD players. First of all we lack a scoring winger for Malkin and we lack a defensive d man that can actually skate. Also a few of my forwards have bad stamina <11 meaning they suck at back checking and thus give up a lot of goals.

My first trade was Lapierre for Talbot. Basically he's cheaper and better. Boston put him on the block lol.

My team is now:
Kunitz Crosby horny
Perron Malkin Spaling
Bennett Sutter Dupuis
Comeau Talbot Downie

Martin Letang
Maatta Ehrhoff
Cole Lovejoy

I also traded Scuds for a pick to get under cap cause injured players came back early.

My question: what kind of roster players would you trade to get this team better?

I'm thinking better 4th liners with better skating/stamina but also pokecheck. Guys like Komarov, Vitale seem good. Also I'd like a 2nd line rw and I'm willing to give up Sutter for that and place Spaling as third line centre. Lastly I need a d man that cN fill up the gap Martin leaves but I can't pay more then 4 mill. Any thoughts? And what do you think of my assessment

Exactly my views. I think I'm going to post a sticky topic about things like this as I've seen a few things recently I'd rather not see on the forums.

Hey guys just started a season with the Oilers made some minor deals. picked up some waivers. current line is
Hall-Draisatl-Eberle
Purcell-RNH-Yakupov
Pouliot-Lander-Gordon
Hendricks-Pitlick-Neil

Nikitin-Nurse
Kindl-Schultz
Ferance-Maricin

S-Neuvirth
B-Fasth

Are team is doing great i offence and goaltending but are defence is abysmal. my only positive dman is Nurse he is plus 4 and an average rating of 7.20
the rest are all in the minus and under 7 AVR. i hired some really good Coachs but it is not helping. i am thinking of making a move for E.Johnson or Adam Larsson.
tried to get OE Larsson and Viktor Hedman but to no prevail the asking price is to high and i am trying to change as little as possible. who do you guys suggest?
first 10 games we went 7-2-1 than went on a 6 game losing streak now i am desperate.

Your defense is abysmal because this game is not known for being defensive, plus well....your defensemen are abysmal just like in real life. In various places I have posted things about defensive play around the site. Alot of info in the challenge discussion threads from over the years and in the tactics threads. Most guys will not listen and do anything about it, because scoring goals by the bushelful is more fun than stopping them. Guys would rather win 8-6 than 2-0. But..for some reason I have the opposite problem. I won't change things up to get more offensive results because I love shutting other teams down.

No suggestions on players to get from me for your blue line. That is something that should be done by trial and error. I am having fun picking guys up on waivers and making small deals to find the gem in the rough in my Flyers game. I will say Kostka plays better than what he looks like, Weirchoch plays worse.

Thanks i will look around. i have a lot of experience playing the EHM's but the trading is so weird since the last patch it is hard to pull off a decent or realistic trade. I don't wanna make to many moves and just trade and win, I wanna build from within. my tactics usauly keep teams under 4 goals but this defense is just to bad and i cant find any decent Dman to replace them with. I found so far Bealieu in Montreal who seems to be playing good and Despres in Anaheim is also playing above 7 average. they look like some youth that i could grow into atleast top 4-5 dmen. Nurse is doing really good for a rookie and i am hoping he could become my Subban :P , anyone far enough in with oilers to see how he developes?

Trading is hard for sure. But that is good. No more garbage trades that would not happen in real life, save for the silly AI at deadline day. What I mean by no more garbage trades is the user sending thousands of picks and taking advantage of AI for things...regardless of that silly Islanders offer the other year in real life.

Glad it is hard to trade, makes you learn how to make the game work. Maybe not this hard, but needed to take away some of the trade AI loopholes.

Nurse will develop differently for different games...as will everyone. There is no consistency in development from game to game.

Even though I don't always aim to play defensive I almost always end up that way. I also do find useful players on waivers but I think not every player will do the same in different games/teams/line combos so it's a fair bit of trial and error. I usually get a lot of grief from the board my first year or 2 as I'm a slow patient builder and like to build with small trades/ waiver pickups till my draft picks start to develop. Then I switch to more draft/build from within and do less trading and waiver wire pickups. Remember, what works for one guy may not work for another and sometimes I have a game where nothing seems to work. Just like real life :) If it was too easy we would all conquer the game and quit playing in a month. Many of us have been playing for years and are still learning. Now thats what I call a good sports management game  :-D

Yeah the trading makes it more real and makes it a challenge. I hated it when people would just claim guys off waivers and just package them with picks. or i was playing with a guy from school and he package like 3 1st and 3 2nd with Chris Kelly for Malkin, I was like really dude. Oh well some people don't like a challenge. just with the latest patch trading is bugged the GM likes the deal and still doesn't accept.

Yeah, I am finding it hard to play for too long right now. Same game, and not excited by it right now. I maybe play 3-4 games and then shut it down. Just not into it although I am not horrified by it either.
