Checking/2-way forwards
Is it just me or are the majority of forwards either "Checking" or "Two-way"? Even top tier talent other than a handful of offensive super stars. I'll get the numbers crunched shortly but in my first pass of in-depth scouting I see these two attributes WAY more than in 2007. IIRC, this would indicate that the "Offensive Role" and "Defensive Roll" need tweaking across the board. Anybody else see this?

Re: Checking/2-way forwards
THe new feature of the game is player role. THis has not yet been implemented fully in the database and is currently being researched. I am hoping as are many that this takes care of the issues with the roles and ratings of players in the game. Riz says it should. But the db research guys need the time in order to be able to fully import the role, and we should be able to see the results once that is done.
That being said...scout reports are not the be all and end all of what the players actually are.
The new player role category apparently (although not 100% sure yet) will basically make the offensive/defensive role obsolete, or will allow the data base gurus like Manimal and NIno and all other researchers as well as super archi to fine tune the way players have attributes given to them, and make things even more realistic. At least that is the intent.

Re: Checking/2-way forwards
Player Roles in scouting reports were part of both EHM 05 & 07 and had 2 levels (Career Role 1 & Career Role 2) that could hold a combination of almost any of the list items. Goalies only had Starting/Backup/Third-string available, but had an additional attrib that indicated their style (Acrobatic/Butterfly/Hybrid/Stand-up)batdad wrote:THe new feature of the game is player role.
[th]EHM '07[/th]- Backup (Goalie)
- Character (Forward)
- Checking (Forward)
- Defensive (Fwd & Def)
- Energy (Forward)
- Enforcer (Fwd & Def)
- Flashy (Forward)
- Franchise (Fwd & Def)
- Goal-Scoring (Forward)
- Mobile (Defensemen)
- Offensive (Fwd & Def)
- Playmaking (Fwd & Def)
- Power (Forward)
- Quick (Forward)
- Skilled (Fwd & Def)
- Starting (Goalie)
- Stay-at-Home (Defensemen)
- Third-string (Goalie)
- Two-way (fwd & Def)
- Utility (Forward))
All of these are in EHM-EA with the 2-tier system and Goalie Styles and I have yet to discover any additional ones.
So what would be "new" about this feature.

Re: Checking/2-way forwards
The NEW player roles are not a "front end" feature. They're in the db and help determine which areas players develop in. ie. Which attributes are more likely to progress and which are less likely. This didn't exist before and resulted in a lot of "jack of all trades" players, as opposed to players specializing in their strong points.
The old player roles are a RESULT of player attributes and their distribution. The new ones determine the player attributes and their distribution.

Re: Checking/2-way forwards
NOW that makes sense. Thanks unwoz. Although it really neuters the scouting reports (And yes, batdad, I understand that SRs are not an end all-be all) in the short term.umwoz wrote:The NEW player roles are not a "front end" feature.
