Glad you're enjoying it!

This past Monday night I started working on the 1974 DB again! I haven't worked on it in a couple years!
Currently I'm working on three projects, the 1974 DB, the 1998 DB, and the current/modern TBL DB.
I hope/expect to see new releases of the 1974 DB and the 1998 DB sometime this summer!

Pena_FIN wrote:So, anyone have any idea how the kids progress in EA ? I'm a bit worried with them having so low skills in their draft year.
I suspect that's a direct result of the editing required for the EHM07 game; prospects that started at an extra young age had to have some really low Attributes to compensate for the extra years of growth/development they got...it only sorta worked in EHM07

My understanding is that in EHM:EA things are much improved, and all extra young players in the database are now "frozen" (and hidden from view) until they turn age 14. All players who are under age 14 at start-up can now be edited based on being age 14. This should address the past problems of abnormal development.

I don't remember their names, and can't look them up right now. Is this also a problem in with EHM2007, or a result of the DB convertion ?
I found them again:

- Ron Wilson, Providence - United States College East. Same DOB and picture, different attributes. Toronto Maple Leafs own both "their" rights.

- Vladimir Machulda, Litvinov - Czech Elite. Different DOB, different attributes.

I've been doing some 1974/1998 database work this week! :-)

Came across this response/explanation from Riz (from the SI EHM Forums) from earlier today, where he talks about some of the "under the hood" work that's been done with EHM:EA that eventually should allow for improved retro databases (i.e. eventually, in the future/once there's an editor, the potential to correct league rules, league structure, playoff format, and more!)...anyways, in response to questions about adding Leagues, here's what Riz said
In the 2007 game, all the leagues were hardcoded, meaning the way each league worked was actually coded on a league-by-league basis. That meant the game could only support that one hardcoded set of rules for each league and any changes to league structures/rules had to be changed in code. So even if you created historical databases with historical start date and team/player data, you were still stuck with all the leagues running exactly like they were coded to run without the ability to change that.

As you may have noticed, the new game has done away with all the hardcoded leagues and instead all the leagues are implemented in the database itself as sets of rules on how to setup and run the league. This allows different databases to have the same leagues playable but with different structures/rules. For example, check the historical 2006 default database for how differently the leagues work compared to the default 2014 database and its playable leagues. The importer currently adds these rules into the new format database based on what rule set you have defined in the import config (2006 or 2014 sets are currently supported). I'm sure that once people understand what a major leap forward the new system is (and what doors it opens for future expansion of the game) they can really appreciate it.

So no, it is not currently possible to just lift the old rules from the old code as pretty much everything relating to the leagues and how they are run in the game has been re-written. What I am doing is converting the old hardcoded leagues and their rules/structures into the new database driven formats and obviously for some leagues it takes more time. But the upside is that most of the leagues do actually share a lot of the rules and structures with other leagues, so once those rules have been implemented in the new gamecode, those kinds of leagues are fairly easy to add as playable leagues (for example the leagues in the last update).

As I posted in the thread http://community.sigames.com/showthread ... 459-Update I'm really excited about the potential for improved retro databases! 8-)

I'e been thinking about this database lately. I'm really looking forward to what you can do with it in the new game. The 98 DB really interests me too.

I dunno if it's just because of I'm playing it on EHM:EA, but the database seems to be completely missing Jari Kurri. I'm on my third season in it, and Kurri is nowhere to be seen (Jokerit Jr's have even a few players younger than Kurri in their roster, and Kurri made his irl debut in 1977 season. I wouldn't mind otherwise, but even if I wasn't a Finn myself (so I particularily care for them), but Kurri was a sort of a big deal in NHL later :P

There are missing players (especially really young Europeans/Russians), they'll be in the next update/version

You're welcome!

I'm slowly but surely working on an improved/updated version of the 1974 DB for EHM:EA (hopefully a release late summer/early fall)

Well it won't be late summer HaHa and unlikely to be early fall...maybe later fall
My EHM time has been mostly spent on the TBL database, EHM:EA testing or the 1998 database this summer

FYI I go back to work this Thursday, and for the near future I'm going to continue to focus on the 1998 database

Finally got around to downloading this roster update and picture packs to play on EA. Thanks very much for your hard work and many hours put into this Nino. Loving this roster pack so far, and can't wait to get in many season's before the new 2015-16 rosters are released.

teams and players

Post by MatyLA »

Hello, I would like to ask you two questions:
1) Are in 1974 database real players until the present? For example McDavid, Crosby,...?
2) Are the team changing like in the real? For example moving teams, new teams (Columbus,...)?

Thank you for your answer!

1) No there's not THAT young players in this DB as far as I know yet (as there's a chance nino will create those players for this pack in the future).
2) No we're not able to make team changes in the game yet (there's a chance we might be able to in the future releases of the game)

FYI

In recent weeks I have begun working on the 1974 database using Archi's new EHM1 Editor; I've been trying to get the NHL set up correctly with 18 teams, 2 conferences/4 divisions, and 6 teams making the playoffs in each conference (4 playoff rounds, division winners get a 1st round bye)

So far I have not been successful ](*,) but hopefully...eventually...someday :-)

I figure if I can get a functioning 1974 database with correct number of teams, reasonable finances, correct rules, etc then I can also get a 1979 database functioning too

Hi, I wanted to ask if there is any progress in adjusting this db? I don't want to rush anyone I just wanted to start a new career with this database and I was wondering if I should wait for "more realistic" version or should I enjoy what we've got :)

Cheers! :)

It's going to take more than a few more weeks, but how much more I really can't say for sure, but it is being worked on! :-) Maybe a "by the end of the summer" goal is realistic :dunno:

I did the 1974 database so long ago now...when I looked at it in spreadsheet form recently I was really surprised/shocked/stunned at the "poor condition" of the database to be honest; the 1974 database was the first database I ever worked on. CJ and I and our work on the 1998 database really clarified a lot of editing principles/practices for me, and it's abundantly evident to me that I was not using these principles/practices when I did the 1974 database!

I think there will be an enormous difference/improvement in the upcoming EHM1 version of the 1974 database 8-)

I keep fingers crossed for your project :) I'm completely glued to yours and CJ's 1998 db. It's tremendous piece of work. Can you tell how far are you planning to recreate upcoming drafts in your 1974 db? :)

Up to the present, but I'm not at all trying to create every player who was drafted each year (for example, for historical players drafted over the years the general standard to be included in the database is 200 NHL GP for forwards/defensemen and 100 NHL GP for goaltenders, with some exceptions)

People had done partial retro DB's before, but nobody had developed one as far as your '74 one. So a lot of it was uncharted territory.

An update.....progress is slow, but I'm happy with the work that's actually getting done; I'm not sure if end of the summer is a realistic release date...probably not.

I'm noticing that other users are taking editing work done by others and making minor tweaks and releasing "their version" and it makes me not want to release anything I feel is "incomplete" to me (I wouldn't be happy if I was still working on completing/improving the database while others are taking the many hundreds/thousands of hours of work done, making some minor changes, and releasing the database as their creation)

I've lost interest in spending so much of my free time editing EHM, and am struggling just to get work done on the 1974 database, so I don't think I'll be doing anymore editing after the current work on the 1974 database (and to be honest in the last 2-3 weeks I've thought about abandoning the 1974 database.....I just don't have the needed desire/motivation anymore)

Just take a break from editing, indefinately.
I do that from time to time and it is refreshing to just say no to it.
Sometimes I get back to my projects and sometimes I don't.

I hope you never feel any pressure to continue you work. That would suck the enjoyment out of it

I think I do feel pressure (even though I know I shouldn't)
And I think your advice is good advice, thank you
