The Leafs turn the tables on the Sens, winning 6-0, and giving Andrew Raycroft his first shutout in a Leafs uniform. =D>

I watched the second period and most of the third of the Flyers - Pens game. Fleury is for real.

Heh interesting too see how he does in the long run, with all the trade rumors and talk about bringing in a experienced starter while he develops etc. Trying not to think of how scary the pens are gonna be, if he reaches his upside :O.

A couple things I noticed from last night:

-Congrats to Brendan Shannahan on his 600th career goal scoring 2 last night in his first game for the Rags.

-Fleury finally learned to make big saves when they need to be made.

-Way to go Mintyhawks.

-Alexei Ponikarovsky had a sick goal against the Sens.

-The Leafs need to make up their minds if they are going to be a good or a bad team this year.

-Atlanta pulled a Carolina last night with the game tied 2-2 going into the shootout. They took the first shot and missed while Lecavalier scored. Then the rest of the shooters missed.

-Forsberg took a nice cheapshot at Crosby with his stick last night.

-Speaking of Crosby, he was all over the ice last night.

-Jordan Staal had a solid debut.

-Brenden Shanahan missed the hat trick by about 2 inches.

Thats about all I can think of right now.

NOW THAT IS A COMEBACK! Down 2-0 to CBJ with 6 minutes left. Then on the power play, Brendan Morrison. 2 minutes left, Daniel Sedin ties it. In OT right at the start Daniel gets the winner.

This Vancouver team is working its collective butt off. So different. Hope to god it keeps up. They do not seem to understand the word quit. Outshot CBJ 32-10 in the last 2 periods and overtime.

Canucks 2 and 0. Giants 6 and 0. Good times for hockey here. Better get our parades in now!

Agreed 8-) It was kind of one of those games with not a lot going on but that finish sure made up for it. Columbus really came out with fire in their eyes but their youth/inexperience especially on D really started to show as that game went on. That was a perfect road game and a perfect second game of a back to back as well. I still think it's a big mistake to be playing the Sedins with Naslund though.

GO HAWKS!!!!! It's really freaking me out having a guy who can make the plays Havlat made on opening night on the team; it's soooo cool 8-) What a wild game that was though, but that's why I've said those Nashville games are always a dogfight.

All other comments are currently just stored in my head as ammo for who I should select in our Forum draft so I won't say anything about undrafted players looking good or bad yet ;)

It is darn fine to have hockey back though, it's like when you have a really bad cold and you get that one moment where your nose clears up and you can finally breathe again and you say "Oh yeah, that's why I prefer the whole being able to breathe thing". You can live without it's just so much more pleasant this way. :joy:

What a great night for hockey. The Sabres and Canadiens have an all out war ending in a shoot-out, The Devils absolutly trounce those other guys, and Bertuzzi gives the finger to Vancover and the media in general.

inSTAALed's Daily Thoughts:

-Our defense needs to go back to Stick Lifting 101 to prevent those kind of deflections in front of the net.

-Cam Ward has had 6 of 6 goals scored on him by deflections.

-Maxim Afinogenov had the sickest shot in the shootout last night.

-Amazing comeback for the Nucks... too bad I like the Jax more...

-The ending of that Buffalo game was amazing. First Briere gets that hail mary pass off a defensive zone faceoff and scores, then Maxim scores with 15 seconds left. Good stuff.

-Gleason wasn't as noticeable today... although I can say that for the whole 'Canes defense who were playing like they didn't exist.

-I really am trying to figure out why Laviolette continues to play Snuggles. :-k

-Florida absolutely steamrolled the Bruins last night. =D>

Geez, that was absolutely awful!!! Specially our defense and our PK-units!!!

...sad, because 5 on 5 we were the better team!!!

Nevermind, there are still 81 games ahead of us!!!

Free to speak of such things if someone finds the highlight from LA vs ANA last night you'll see the moment that I said to myself "wOw, this kid? Is going to make it." Anze Kopitar gets a breakaway outlet pass and and it's him versus Chris Pronger from the blue line in and Kopitar fends off Pronger, cuts scross the front of the goal to the left and then buries the puck topshelf back to the right. It was rediculous especially with Pronger all over him then beating Giggy who looked really great all night. This kid is gonna put Slovenia on the map 8-) Hard to believe he's only 19.

I actually tuned in to see how O'Sullivan would do but only noticed how good Kopitar was, he was clearly the best player on the ice last night :-o

It started off that the Bruins were playing a much better game but then every time the Bruins made a mistake, the Panthers capitalized on it. Things just got bad in the 3rd period when they totally gave up. That's when it got embarassing!

Hopefully we'll see a different game tonight vs the Lightning!

Ryan... keep in mind we have posters from all oever the world and we have no idea who the hell you are talking about, try using player names, k?

I have to say there are a lot of interesting teams in the early going. Hopefully my Hawks will continue to be one of them as I've said I think they have some interesting things going.

Los Angeles is really going to be interesting with the return of Rob Blake and the kids O'Sullivan and Kopitar they have a really interesting balance. Also they have amazing goaltending resources there now with Hextall in the office and a great 'tenders coach that may just get Cloutier to the 'next level'. One thing is they told him in no uncertain terms that he wouldn't be allowed to take the ice in that stupid bucket helmet :-D I think he's one to watch as he looked really good and obviously they have put their faith in him as the #1 guy.

Columbus has a really interesting team with the people they have brought in this year and I don't think Pascal LeClaire will make a name for himself among the top young 'tenders in the game. He doesn't have much of a defense in front of him but this kid has a lot of similarities to the year Giguere came into the league and opened eyes with his uncanny quickness. Being Columbus of course people might not be inclined to tune them in but I suggest you do

Along the same lines are Phoenix who have a really well contstructed team I think right now. Of course bringing in Jovo was a great idea but they have veterans on thsi team that if they stay healthy and keep that "prove it to the rest of the league" chip on their collective shoulders they could prove it right to a big playoff run. It's high rish high reward but it's the kind of guys that I wouldn't mind rolling the dice on either... Derrek Morris is terribly underrated due to his injury history but pair him with Jovo and that's quite the tough pairing. Keith Ballard has to be the most productive and yet least know young defenseman in the game, he had 39 points in his rookie year last year in the desert. The veterans coming to the team this year: Jeremy Roenick and Owen Nolan both have great leadership and fire and of course history of being big-time scorers. Both are pretty much coming off of non-years Roenick again with injury and Nolan sitting the year out giving him two years off now. Shane Doan I still think can be one of the best power forwards in the game and don't forget that this team was without Nagy due to injury much of last year and after all of this they still have players like Mike Comrie who if they come up to their potential could post some serious points especially as in Comrie's case one question was always could he hold up at his size not so much an issue now.
Anahiem is far from unknown but are still just scary... flat out, and they add Pronger to Niedermayer on the defense? :-o They are reaping the benefits of deciding midway through last year that they had to get their young players time and experience. After their big playoff run givign them confidence and another year along the maturity scale even just from straight physical maturity/conditioning standpoint Getzlaf and Perry are an amazing young tandem.

Nashville got derailed by Vokoun's bizarre blood condition taking him out for the late season and playoffs and they've again made smart additions this year. Just factoring in the talent they have on the roster that was out for portions of last year with Vokoun and Legwand (who still has a giant breakout year in the offing many people think) are two huge moves really. Another year of Hartnell (exxtremely underrated as well) developing as well along with the returning tandem of Kariya and Sullivan up front gives them tons of firepower and explosiveness. Don't be surprised to see them make a run like the Sharks did last year.

So there's a quick Minty's Teams To Watch featurette for ya :-p I mentioned Buffalo and Carolina last year in a similar manner and you can see what happened with them meeting up in the Finals 8-)

I refuse to call him by his proper name because it will cause the house to burn down in agony!

*cough*Tanabe*cough*

inSTAALed's Daily Hoozamajig:

-Alexander Squared had a great game tonight scoring 5 goals against the 'Canes. ](*,)

-Cam Ward finally got beat cleanly on a shot, and jeez what a shot it was! (Semin's second goal)

-I'm pleasantly surprised by the way Ladd played. I think we finally found a player to round our our top 6. =D>

-The deflection gnomes strike again.... at least once...

-Something needs to be done to spark our offense because nothing is working at all right now.

-Atlanta Thrashed the Panthers apparently. I guess we know who the new top dog is in the Southeast for now. :)

-That kneeing penalty was a load. I really don't see how it could be called a penalty since it was more of Gleason sticking out his shoulder too far with Ovechkin basically dodging into his knee to avoid the hit It also pretty much destroyed any chance we had at coming back there at the end of the game.

-Another long shootout in New York... but no Marek Malik brilliance? :dunno:

Thats really all that I noticed since I was too busy playing EHM to watch anything other than the Hurricanes game and tiny bits of the rest... :dunno:

Yeah...I really only enjoy the Blue Jax now because they have Brule. Watching him play as a Vancouver Giant was really amazing. If the kid ever gets some strength he is gonna be one hell of a player. Plus, I hate looking at the Canucks logo even though I like the team. Canucks 1st, Bugs 2nd. Leafs 51st at best.

Makes sense I suppose.

I bet you'll be catching the game tonight, then?
