Would You Be Interested In a Fantasy Draft Challenge?

Post by Minstrel »

Given that a new feature of EHM 2007 will be running your team beginning with a Fantasy Draft would people like to try out that feature by using it for a GM Challenge?

Obviously this would lead us to be GM'ing a high power team unlike our usual rebuilding projects and I would insist that everyone who signs up play at least two seasons so we can see how things pan out for teams in the second years as well, but I think it could be interesting.

We'd need to select a team still just so that we are all playing teams in the same conference. That would be important to give us an equal challenge so we all are playing the same schedule vs the same teams. There will be less 'even playing field' to a point as everyone's NHL will have different teams of course due to the fantasy start... but c'est la vie :-D

I've given the third option in the poll in case you wouldn't personally play in a Fantasy Challenge but would like to see what the results of a Fantasy Challenge would be...

I don't know if we should do a Fantasy Draft for our first challenge with the new version of the game. I'm thinking a normal one might be in order just to get our feet wet with the ins and outs of the new game. As a matter of fact, I'm probably going to want to play a couple season with the Bruins before getting into any challenges

Here's a question I've got... could we do a Fantasy Draft where whoever wants to be in the challenge picks a team. They would draft their team against the computer and every other challenge participant's team. Then once the draft is done, the database could be downloaded from the website and played. Does that make sense?

I like the idea of it as a first challange, teams would get an even start, so it will be a great way to see what does or doesn't work tactics wise.

Sorry, but I dont like that fantasy draft thing....I like playing the game with real teams and I never liked the idea of making fantasy drafts in games. I never played it in any game, so I guess I wont be doing it this time either.

But I would be interested in join u guys in a "normal" challenge!!!

I voted no as I don't think it would be a level enough playing field for a challenge, but if it is done I don't think it should be the first challenge.

That said, I never got round to joining a challenge last time round so what do I matter!

You could change that this time around? Join the challenges! They're a blast! And the more people that participate in the challenges, the more fun they are.

I did a test run with the fantasy draft, and i was underwhelmed. The interface is so clunky I found it really difficult to find the players I wanted. I mainly went with the suggestions that my assistants give, and aside from nabbing Kipprusoff & Regehr, my team looked like rubbish. :dunno:

I'll try one more time, I think there were filters I never took advantage of. :-D

Any news on the first challenge, I'm looking for a game to take me up to the patch/first unfaking and a challenge would do nicely

Well, I think there is enough interest to run a fantasy draft based challenge; and if it end up being chaos at least it's just the first Challenge :-p

We do still need to choose a specific Division though so at least everyone is playing the same teams roughly (though admittedly everyone will be playing in a very different league) and I think the best choice given our userbase and to give people a chance to take over a team that isn't a standard Challenge type team is the Northeast. That gives people the choice of Bruins, Canadiens, Maple Leafs, Sabres and Senators.

What do you think about that option? I could pull together some rules/info just for this one since it will be a different beginning but from then on will follow the same rules and reporting procedures.

Possibly depends on if it is a full fantasy draft including prospects or one where we keep the team's original prospects.

I'm actually going to vote Leafs, they're not a team I would ever play normally and as it's a fantasy draft not many people can complain about playing them

All Challenges will be in 07; since we want everyone on the same database and game engine...

The fantasy draft 'no prospects' option only safeguards your unsigned prospects; all the AHL guys and Juniors go into the draft so since we wouldn't be able to bring them in to play in the NHL in the first year anyhow it's not much of a factor really which is why I say this is the only Challenge where we could have people pick which team they want to run as long as the team is in the same Division just so people have basically the same route through the playoffs. But even that doesn't honestly matter much as everyone will be competing with teams that will be basically randomized :dunno:

The prospect or no prospect makes a bit more difference than that, for example Malkin and Gionta would be available if prospects were included but wouldn't if they are not. I know that the Northeastern teams don't have any major player like those two in the prospect pool but it does make a difference.

Also the game start time was allowed to be early last time round (ie August 4th not September) If that is the same then all prospects are available and it makes a big difference. I don't much care either way to be honest, but good to know early what the deal is

You can start early again yeah, but not early enough to get in before the international moves window closes so anyone not NHL contracted can't be brought in until after the season. So I guess my argument fits but not exactly for what I was arguing for :-p I guess we should just make it an all available thing prospects and all just to get a clean slate.
