I think I just made the best trade ever. http://imgur.com/vJAmOkj Chicago put him on the block (probably for salary cap reasons) and Ennis was playing terrible for me. Somehow my board is upset with the trade, and the Buffalo fans are upset too.

I just played through the 14-15 season as the Bruins. I won the Cup, Peter Forsberg the cap, got a Carey Price of draft picks, and most importantly, RE-SIGNED DOUGIE McDavid-ing HAMILTON.
I'm feeling rather proud of myself.

So since I needed to reach the salary floor I signed Crosby from free agency.

BD, can you tell me where I can find that "report card part of the report"? Maybe I use it and just call it something else, but I am not sure. I am also on one of the earliest saves, so maybe I don't have it.batdad wrote:
Check out the report card part of the report too. It tells you alot. Unless you read the whole thing over and over, you will not get as good a sense of what they are telling you. Read between the lines. A first line potential guy compared to Shawn Matthias? Bet he had a great game while the scout saw him play. A guy with 1st line potential with D's all over his report card and averaging 6 AvR's in junior? Yeah....problem...and your scout saw a good game.
EDIT: Nevermind mate, I see it now. Good lord, 27 seasons and I never noticed that thing before. OMG.

Brand spanking new to the game and in charge of the Bruins. I traded Kelly for a first and a fourth and am 4-0-0 on the season in my first year. Starting out alright.

I got really tired of the game after 300+ hours the couple weeks or so, plus that the game still is not good enough with the European leagues, I decided to give it a try once again and play as the Leafs! Let's tank the first 2 seasons, trade away Phil Kessel, draft Mcdavid and Matthews and make the Leafs into a powerhouse

I finished up the 2018-2019 season and won the Cup for the second year in a row. Boone Jenner finished with the most points in the league while Gustav Nyquist finished with the most goals. Auston Matthews lead all rookies in goals, assists, and points and also led the entire playoffs in scoring. Jenner, Johansen, Matthews, A. Johnson, and Nyquist all finished the season with at least a point per game average.
My Lines at the end of last year-
Jenner (C) - Johansen - Matthews
A. Johnson - Eichel - Nyquist
Girgensons - Scheifele - Foligno (A)
Wennberg - Grigorenko - Ashley
Karlsson - Trocheck
Murray - Letang (A)
Muller - Green
J. Johnson - Savard
Klingberg
Bobrovsky
Dansk
The offseason was full of little moves. I had to resign Eichel, Nyquist, and Ashley to new contracts and I ended up over the salary cap. I ended up trading the struggling veteran Nick Foligno (who had only scored 29 points in 79 games) and his 5.5 million dollar cap hit to Pittsburgh for their 1st and 4th picks. Pittsburgh was 28th in the league last year, so if they can continue to lose games I might end up with a nice lottery pick. David Savard then rejected my contract offer and signed for less in Colorado , and my 7th defensemen John Klingberg asked for way to much money so I had to release him. To fill the defensive gap I signed Jake Gardiner (1.8m AAV) and Tyler Myers (1.6m AAV) to 3 year deals. My backup goalie Dansk was coming off a terrible year in which he let up 3.66 goals per game. So I signed 39 year old Ryan Miller to a 1 year 1.3 million dollar deal to strengthen the back end. My head coach Todd Richards is a good coach, but not a great one, so I couldn't pay him the 1.9 million dollars a year he was asking for. I decided to let him go and sign the legend Wayne Gretzky to a 6 year 1.3 million dollar deal as the next head coach of the Blue Jackets.
At the beginning of the preseason my lines are looking something like:
Jenner (C) - Johansen - Matthews (A)
A. Johnson - Eichel - Nyquist
Girgensons - Scheifele - Ashley
Wennberg - Grigorenko - Bjorkstrand
Trocheck
Murray - Letang (A)
Muller - Green
J. Johnson - Gardiner
Myers
Bobrovsky

Columbus is fun. I have a save going with them and Jenner and Atkinson are absolute beasts. Johansen of course is as well. Ryan Murray and Johnson are fantastic too. Only disappointment was also Foligno. He's only averaging just a shade under 7 but seems to be quite average. Wennberg, Hartnell, and Anisimov are outplaying him too.

Re: How's it going in EHM:EA? What team are you?
Finished up the 2016/17 season and having a lot of fun with Nashville Predators, playing almost strickly as the GM. Have to tinker with lines as I find the coach to make weird choises at times and constant changes from game to game. But Mr Laviolette seems pretty capable when it comes to tactics though!
In the first season we made it into the playoffs being the 4th best team in the regular season. But we went out in the first round loosing to Chicago in 7 games. The next season we were the 3rd best team in the league, after snapping up Towes....Blackhawks were having a garage sale to get that cap down, and I thought we got him for a very good price. So that 1st line instantly started to play better, moving away from Ribeiro to Towes. Though we went out in the 2nd round this time against the eventuall champions St. Louis Blues.
So year 3 and now Saros replaced Hutton as our backup and my gosh...what an upgrade, I'll say! Insane numbers and with our defense playing even better we cut down our GA by 51 from the previous year...winning the President's Trophy with 116p. But it still wasn't to be our year though. We went past Sharks 4-2 and Stars 4-0 but came up short against our bogey team Calgary 1-4.
Oh well, we'll be back better and stronger next year! Lines this year:
Forsberg - Toews - Neal
Borque - Wilson - Smith
Mäenalanen - Trocheck - Winnik
Martin - Santorelli - Beck
Josi - Weber
Jones - Franson
Ekholm - Ellis
Rinne/Saros
Notable players: Petrovic (D), M-A Pouliot (C/RW), Weise (RW), Watson (RW/LW - Aquired in a trade with LA giving us rights to Watson in return for Fiala, not sure what they were smoking as Watson clearly is the better prospect...but hey, their offer so...

Re: How's it going in EHM:EA? What team are you?
Finished another season with a cup but having re-signed all my key players I traded for Pouliet from the pens (since they were near the bottom and wanted high picks). I have somehow miscalculated the cap (I guess I didn't factor signing bonuses), despite trading a centre I've found myself slightly over with few players I can send down without waivers (where they will certainly be claimed).
I'm now playing Winkler on RW for this season, and whenever someone gets injured short term having to double shifts as 7 day IR doesn't bring any cap relief!
So far I'm winning but going to be a long year. Will lose Crosby at the end of it but McDavids cap hit is taking a huge jump from 4.7 to 10.9!!! Crazy.

Re: How's it going in EHM:EA? What team are you?
I started a season with the Blues (my team) with the goal of winning the Cup and avoiding making huge trades, unless it was to clear cap room. I sent Jokinen packing to the Coyotes for a 1st and 4th round pick and the fans and board were upset!!! I seriously had a laugh because Olli hasn't been any good in 8 years. Anyhow, I'm taking my time evaluating and getting through the pre-season. I will see if I can turn the regular season success into play-off success.

Re: How's it going in EHM:EA? What team are you?
Finally we did it! It's the 2017/18 season and Nashville Predators is the Stanley Cup winners!
Despite a poor start to the season we managed to overcome Washington (by a point) to win the President's Trophy a second year running. Had a few new names added to the roster, so I'm sure that contributed to our inconsistent start to the season and a couple of them were targeted by the media, but they always responded well imho. Also a few young guns got some game time. 113p to finish the season, only 3 less compared to previous year. We then went on to beat St. Louis 4-2 (turned around a 0-2), Minnesota 4-1 before beating Anaheim in the conference final 4-1. We faced Tampa Bay in the final, they had swept by any team they faced like hot knife through butter. And it was looking to be like that again as they stormed into a 0-3 lead. But what a comeback and Towes really dragged this team back into the series with some amazing performaces. Funny enough, he was one of the lesser players in game 7...but I guess he did enough in games 4-6 to inspire the team to win the cup!
Neal - Toews - Forsberg (Forsberg had a great year with 80p, a new season high for him, and top point guy on the team!)
Bourque - Smith - Watson (Watson's rookie season, came in 3rd in points among all rookies with 45p)
Mäenalanen - Danault - Beck (Mäenalanen had his best point producing season with 40p)
Sill - Trocheck - Hansen
Josi - Weber
Ellis - Jones
Ekholm - Petrovic
Rinne/Saros
Notable players: Franson (D), Martin (LW/RW), Korostelev (RW/LW - Drafted 26th overall in 2015), Aberg (RW/LW),

Re: How's it going in EHM:EA? What team are you?
I'm having a blast so far! After not playing EHM2007 for 3 years or so this looks familiar but "new" at the same time, having to re-learn some things and discovering others.
For my first game, I started with 2 teams:
- TBL - main objective: the CUP!
- EDM - main objective: McDavid!
Has been very fun and challenging so far. Due to some luck (Drouin and Kucherov mostly
) and some GODLY performances from Bishop (despite his low stats compared to other starting goalies) I manage to get TBL to top the league in December.
On the other hand, EDM are dead last. So far so good. My main problem is that despite my initial objective, I've not made any effort to lose games....that scares me...next year, when I want to start challenging for a playoff spot, the team will be roughly the same + McJesus but will he be enough to change THIS MUCH in a team? I have to pick some good players in the offseason to go along him.
I have a question for you guys. Regarding attributes, from what I see, more than half of the junior players have their best "technical" attribute being hitting. Is that normal? Hell, a lot of NHL'ers also have a higher stat for hitting than what I would expect. Do you guys experience this as well? Or is the "average" value for hitting somewhat high so a guy with hitting 13/14 is actually below average and not a project of a bone crushing train? Thanks

McDavid isn't too great if you put him straight into the NHL after the draft. Carolina drafted him in my save, put him on the third line and and he put up something like 15 points in 70 games. I'd suggest another year in junior to fill out his stats a little.Kobrakay wrote:I'm having a blast so far! Yeah but I'll put him in the second line for a few months then straight first line. Hall and Eberle/Yakupov will help him produce I hopesutekii wrote:McDavid isn't too great if you put him straight into the NHL after the draft. I put McDavid straight onto 1st line plus PP (albeit before the recent stat reductions). He's developed very well, best centre in the league. If you can't put him on top 2 lines plus PP though then send him to juniors or AHL(can't remember what he's eligible for). Tbf he's too good for juniors though.

Nearing the end of my first season and I just had a minor question that I didn't feel merited its own thread. Should I expect guys to go more or less where they're projected to go in the draft? Or is it kind of all over the place? I have a guy I'm eyeballing projected to go at 50th but I don't know if I'll need to be much higher than that to get him.

Re: How's it going in EHM:EA? What team are you?
It's pretty random. They tend to go near/within 10 places on the whole but some teams like to do a Boston. Really it's down to the player as well, a strong player with a low ranking will still get picked sooner, and higher ranking players that aren't good will get skipped.
2nd and 3rd rounders are even more unpredictable.
For a 50th I'd aim to have 35-40 to be safe, but you might get lucky and he may not go til 80th, can't really say.

Carlo is the guy I'm aiming for. My scouts tell me he's got potential to be a second pairing dman at worst. I was thinking I should probably be around where he got drafted in reality.lemming3k wrote:It's pretty random. They tend to go near/within 10 places on the whole but some teams like to do a Boston. Really it's down to the player as well, a strong player with a low ranking will still get picked sooner, and higher ranking players that aren't good will get skipped.

It's lonely at the top.

Year 2021, going for a 6th Cup in 7 years.

This season has been really weird.
48 games into the season I'm 40-8-0.
Sergei Bobrovsky, had a brutal preseason so I let Ryan Miller start the regular season. The 39 year old Ryan Miller led the league in GAA and led the Blue Jackets on a 26 game winning streak to start the year off (
) then he let up 9 goals on 18 shots in game number 27 so I gave Bobrovsky his first start of the season. He let up 3 goals on 16 shots, and then let up 5 goals on 18 shots in the next game so I pulled him out again and played Miller. Then Miller started to slack off so I've been splitting time between both goalies and they've both been pretty mediocre. If not for my dynamic offense I would honestly be a pretty bad team. Miller is currently sporting a .902 sv% and Bobrovsky has a horrible .886 sv%. Bobrovsky is really scaring me though, he has been horrible ever since he was on the Vezina ballot at the end of the 17-18 season, and I don't have any good goaltending prospects.
Like I said my offense is legendary. Nyquist, A. Johnson, Jenner, Eichel, Matthews, and Johansen are all above PPG right now, and Letang is leading all defensemen in points.
Scheifele, Girgensons, and Grigorenko have all been so disappointing the last couple of years, and their attributes are regressing. So I traded Mark Scheifele to Florida for Frederik Gauthier, I waived Grigorenko and sent him to Springfield, and then I scratched Girgensons in favor of Kerby Rychel. I'm currently in the process of trying to trade Grigorenko and Girgensons for early draft picks/prospects.
My lines here in January 2020
Jenner - Johansen - Matthews
A. Johnson - Eichel - Nyquist
Rychel - Gauthier - Ashley
Wennberg - Fabbri/Trocheck/Girgensons - Bjorkstrand
Murray - Letang
Muller - Green
J. Johnson - Gardiner
Myers
Miller
Bobrovsky

Might depend on the depth of the draft. 2nd pairing going 50th might be a tad late so someone could pick him up earlier. At the end of the day I wouldn't leave it too much to chance, and I'd have a backup plan. I had one guy I had a chance to pick around 50 overall, he was unranked, so I figured nobody would pick him up so early and I drafted someone else - he went a few picks after. Other times you'll think that top 5 isn't coming your way but he'll still be sitting there after a dozen picks and you get him! That's the way it goes sometimes.peachesgp wrote:Carlo is the guy I'm aiming for. My scouts tell me he's got potential to be a second pairing dman at worst. I guess there must be an AI algorithm somewhere but I doubt anyone here knows it.

So it's pretty true to reality, where you can't really know what's going to happen come the draft. I wasn't sure if it was or if it'd pretty much go by the numbers.lemming3k wrote:Might depend on the depth of the draft. 2nd pairing going 50th might be a tad late so someone could pick him up earlier.
