Sweeney keeps doing good moves! I'm sure Beleskey will replace Hamilton perfectly and everyone will forget him quickly.

Go Beleskey
Saw him when he came over to the UK during the last lockout. His insurance cost more than Coventry were paying him, but he was still willing to come over here and work hard and played a lot of minutes. He had a good game when I saw him, hope he does well at the Bruins

Re: Officlal lead up to 2015-16 season thread
He's been on and off the NHL since the start of his career. He didn't proved anything yet, only had a good playoffs run (8 goals 1 assist in 16 games) and like usual the GM are losing their minds!
He did scored 22 goals but only 12 assits I think and he got 3.8. It's amazing! At least he won't go back into the AHL that's for sure.
Also, Yotes resigned Vermette, who they traded to the Hawks for a first round pick and on top of that they signed him less than before! Good move.

Re: Officlal lead up to 2015-16 season thread
I've got to say, Sweeney's 2 moves yesterday were pretty good. Beleskey's career is on the up-swing. They didn't go crazy on his contract. It was fairly reasonable. I think his style might work well with the Bruins. The other move they made, trading Reilly Smith and Marc Savard's contract for Jimmy Hayes seems like a pretty good one too. Hayes is a Boston kid and he's huge. He's also a guy whose career is on the up-swing. I think he'll be a good fit too. Now they just need to trade off Kelly and his stupid contract and find a good deal where they can trade Eriksson and maybe land a good defenseman.

Re: Officlal lead up to 2015-16 season thread
Even though the Beleskey contract wasn't as crazy as it was reported before July 1 that is still a really bad contract to a guy that had a career year by scoring 0.5 PPG for the first time in his career. 22 goals is good but his shooting percentage was 15.2% which is really high, his career shooting percentage is 9.9% with this year counted in... The cap hit isn't horrible at $3.8M (still too much though), that's kind of market value for a solid 3rd liner with some upside nowadays but giving 5 years term along with it is really bad.
The other move was also a meh one imo, Smith is a much better player then Jimmy Hayes right now, Hayes is huge but he doesn't use his size well, he's kind of bad defensively, he does have a good shot though and shoots ALOT, great on the PP aswell... I like Jimmy Hayes but i think Smith is just flat out the better player, they will probably be on similar contracts aswell after they extend Hayes. Getting rid of Savards contract gives Bruins some flexibility in the summer so maybe that deal evens out because of that...
I understand where you are coming from though since these moves arent TERRIBLE, but they are still not good moves imo...

So much to digest yesterday lol. I'll start locally. I like Frolik even if I don't love the term and the dollar is a little high. Not a killer though considering that all 3 goalies have expiring deals next season. Speaking of goalies, I was surprised that Ramo is a Flame for this season. The only rationale I think of is that I believe either one of Hiller/Ortio gets moved. We're a better team going into next season.

I like the Frolik deal alot more then the Beleskey deal, Frolik is just such a good player, 15+25, solid worker, great on the PK and can play up and down the lineup... I don't really understand resigning Rämö unless they have been talking to teams about trading Hiller/Ortio already.

Smith really needed to move on. He was terrible last season. He was just floating. And then at the end of the season he had become a healthy scratch.

I didn't watch much Bruins so maybe he just was a bad fit, then the deal is win/win for both i guess

Re: Officlal lead up to 2015-16 season thread
Beleskey to me is interesting. he could be a less costly version of Clarkson, but then again, Beleskey will have decent centres in Krejci or Bergeron to play with. If he continues his trajectory as a 20-25 goal guy, then the deal will be a good one for the Bruins.Peter_Doherty wrote:I like the Frolik deal alot more then the Beleskey deal, Frolik is just such a good player, 15+25, solid worker, great on the PK and can play up and down the lineup... He has to shoot alot more because i don't think he can bank on keeping that SH% up over 5% above his career average.

St-Louis announced his retirement. I thought he was going for another run since he did well for his age but better to retire now before falling behind too much. He's an amazing example to everyone.

Re: Officlal lead up to 2015-16 season thread
He really wanted to stay in connecticut so he didn't have many teams to choose from, his game really dropped of after about 50 games or so and during playoffs he looked done... Great career and will for sure be a hall of famer, wish he came to Rangers a few years earlier so i could have seen MSL at his best in a Rangers shirt. Will miss him, hope Rangers offer him a position in the organisation if he's intrested.

Yeah, he'd be great as a player development coach down with the Wolf PackPeter_Doherty wrote: Will miss him, hope Rangers offer him a position in the organisation if he's intrested.

Good trade for Caps, Brouwer is not great (scores some in the PP though) and O'Shie is a legit top-6 winger even if he's a bit overrated...

Re: Officlal lead up to 2015-16 season thread
I feel exactly the same way about him. I think he's a little on the overrated side as well, but a solid player nonetheless. He will do fine as a Cap. Caps looking pretty solid with Williams, Ovie, and Oshie down the right. I also expect Kuznetsov to be even better.Peter_Doherty wrote:Good trade for Caps, Brouwer is pretty bad lately and O'Shie is a legit top-6 winger even if he's a bit overrated...

Brouwer is a weird one though, he feels bad when he plays, but he's really solid around 20+20...

I like Brouwer, puts up good numbers but I've always seen him more as a third liner + PP time than a stable second liner.
Voynov got 3 months of jail, 1 year of therapy and something else that I don't know how to translate in english.
He could end up with 1 year of prison if he doesn't respect the conditions of his judgement.

Anyone think a team will offer sheet Tarasenko? Yes St. Louis said they'll match any offer but if it's heavily front loaded I wonder...

I think the Caps stole Oshie. It didn't seem like they gave up much for him to me.
