What has PIMs to do with the Selke?

A good player can defend efficiently while taking few penalties?

To me, a great defensive forward isn't great if he's in the box a lot. I just thought that maybe no PIMs was balancing the takeaways being so low, so I really can't figure out what criteria the AI had (and the guys didn't seem to have amazing defensive attributes to me). But, I'm just one opinion.

Asher413 wrote:Two things I wonder:

1. Is the problem that EHM thinks there's too much talent in the TBL Database, so it doesn't think it needs to generate star players?

2. After all of the guys in the original DB retire, then what does it generate?

And on the salary cap thing- I think salaries are way too tied to rep. I started a game with my WIP 1972 database, I set everyone as FA's (for a personal game to play), where I have a bunch of 0's for reputation, and big time talents were signing for 570k. (24 years old, 19+ in speed, accel, deflections, anticipation, creativity, teawork, passing, off the puck, slapshot and wristshot, no lower than 14 except in agression, faceoffs, flair and strength). Guys that I legitimately would see as 1st liners in most DB's signing for just above minimum, while guys with mostly yellows signing for 2 million. (See the discussion about resigning being too easy on the SI boards). In no way saying the talent isn't there, but I think salaries aren't really right in the game yet.

I may be able to raise even more questions/answer your question here.

1. I'm running a 200 PA customized game file and it doesn't seem to generate many superstars (beside Spanish, Serbs and Icelandic players for some reasons... Also a few players who come out of the lower tier american leagues) The draft is very weak each year and the #1 pick is always very weak, there are some gems in other leagues like France and the Czech Republic though. So I think it's not about generating talent players but rather training them. I think the CHLs suck at training players and the USHL/HE/etc.. is just as bad, if not worse.

Now let's have fun! Here's my star player, I want you to tell me if he's a good player: http://i.imgur.com/6cuEjUN.png
He isn't the fastest player ever and his technical is good but not superb but look at those technicals! He is not a regen, I think he's a real player and he should have a PA of >100 but with my modified game file he became a stud! Or did he? http://i.imgur.com/zvdEP6f.png Welp.. That's fun! At least he was good defensively http://i.imgur.com/a5npsYd.png

My team really isn't bad either... http://i.imgur.com/QQTV1bK.png So the problem lies within the player. How do you explain that a player produces like a 4th liner? I simply don't get it..

Meanwhile you have MacK who is simply a mess: http://i.imgur.com/bOdCDsg.png Who the hell sends down a ~PPG player to the AHL?? http://i.imgur.com/kznS3o0.png It's not like he was full 18s+ two seasons ago either, he was full of reds and oranges!

So this concludes my mini essay on why attributes are totally useless you need to look at the avr rating, points, defensive stats, etc... Attributes means next to nothing in this game.

As for the salary being tied to reputation? http://i.imgur.com/7ikqUvR.png Reputation = Good. http://i.imgur.com/vGlygOQ.png NHL? No. http://i.imgur.com/ectqWaK.png Contract? Big and juicy. This happens regularly too, giving ~3M aav ~4-5 years to ECHLers or lower ties with almost no reputation, meanwhile I sign my "very good" reputation guys to 3,5M-4M even if they are my top D pairing and one of them won the Norris... Also they seem to give ~3M for 3-4 years to naff goalies a lot. Also MacK had good reputation and he had a 7,5M contract how does it even make sense?

So again reputation doesn't have a lot to do with contract, it probably influences it but you can see cheap high reputation and overpaid low reputation guys. I'm really not sure what to make of all this... I'm still playing with my 200PA game and I feel like I understand even less this game and it makes even less sense. Some players become super good and some end up sucking up. In my other 200PA game Jared Stall won the Calder and McDavid couldn't even make my team (Carolina) just how messed up is that?

Marchon is a real player. I noticed that Marchon has a "Zero" set as his CA & Pa. Means the game adds a random CA & PA to him. That has to be changed.

What happened to MacKinnon in the game?!

No idea what happened to MacK, he was super good and all of sudden Colorado waived him and they even have 18M left in their cap. What's surprising is that Colorado was good in 20-21... They also lost O'Reilly in 20-21 so maybe MacK just had crazy chemistry with him or something?

I haven't played for 2 month now but is player development still all over the plays? are players like nathan mackinnon, jonathan drouin nikita kucherov and morgan rielly still on the same attributes(even if they have good seasons) until the 3-4 season then have a crazy drop?

YES. MAX DOMI.
He had 71 points in his first year with me alongside the Nuge and alongside stamkos he had 90!

I have no exact data to offer you, but according to the changelist (http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... =3&t=13623) some adjustment to player attribute generation and progression was made in the 15.13. patch.

It got fixed pretty early and is fine now, probably not perfect but things never get perfect.

What about training? I had problems with practices last time i tried. I followed Malhotra's practice regime without any success. Would letting AI control the practice be better solution?

I run medium on everything for my D's and Forwards during season, and intensive on everything during the summer until after the training camp. This includes goaltending as that's how your players develop positioning. I started using goaltending on medium, and players started to develop better positioning stats, even though they had rached their potential ( according to the assistant)

Please someone tell me that this isn't true, that's the dumbest game mechanic possible. Though it might explain a lot.

This has been the case going back to at least EHM 2005. Nobody has ever been able to come up with a better idea for how to handle Positioning, since it's shared between Skaters and Goalies and important to both. Just make sure your defensive practices have Goalie set to at least MED. It's a minor thing to fix only one time when you start a game.

The easy thing would be to simply make skaters unaffected by goalie training.

Skaters need to train Positioning though. It's not an issue IMO, just a name after all.

I still have no idea how to customize practice schedules like that. I checked all of the tabs just now in the game and I don't see anywhere where I can customize the intensities for each practice drill.

Within the Practice screen, click on the drop-down menu "Schedule", pick one of the pre-drafted templates, for example "General". And there you have it, bottom of the screen. :-)

When I do that, nothing shows up for me at the bottom, just the regular items such as the coaches and the % for general/power play/penalty kill. Someone else told me to click on "unused" in the templates, but it won't let me do that either.

For me what you describe happens if I click an unused template -- one that has no players assigned to it (like Resting when no one is injured). If I click on General, where most of my players are, then I get the different intesities and other options.

That helped me out, mate. I had been looking at the overview screen, but when I went to the top and clicked on "shooting" it brought up the intensities and now I can play with them. Thanks a lot for your help  =D> :joy:
