Game engine

Post by krownroyal83 »

To the developers. Are there any plans in the near future to do an overhaul on the game engine? While this game is good and some would argue is still the best hockey sim game around it's evident to anyone that has used the new sim engine of a certain new hockey sim game that this game engine is
needs a decent amount of work to catch up. This game is still good without it but there's no doubt it would be the best hockey sim game if it had a better engine.

Can you elaborate on why you think FHM2 has a better game engine ?

Have you played it? It puts out very accurate player stats. Scores are accurate. That's about the only thing that they have down. But this is not about their game it's about this one.

I haven't played FHM2 yet. I am unable to say which engine is better but I don't think accurate stats means a good or better engine. I would have been of the impression that EHM currently has a more advanced game engine.

The engine in FHM2 doesn't know the positioning of the players without the puck. I've also read post on OOTP that on occasions goals were scored with 1 second into a period ... EHM claims the engine take into account for rules like hybrid icing, so if that was not a misleading statement, the engine would have to know and actually simulate the positions of all non puck carriers. :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

I still think that EHM has a somewhat better engine, but kev90, you'll be surprised to see how realistic the game engine in FHM has improved. The bugs you talk about are for the old version.

They were clearly mentionned for FHM2 and not the first version.

I haven't really examined FHM2's simulator in detail but what I like about it is that you can adjust the goal scoring—seed, I guess—in the game. I actually am not a stickler for real-world "accuracy" per se because I'd rather see more scoring than not. I liked the NHL more when the cream of the crop scored 120+ points and whatnot. So my personal preference would be to allow the human player to set a scoring baseline of sorts. It's tricky though because then if a player scores a lot of goals the question is did they "earn" it or was it because of the scoring settings?

Apologies if this was not as on topic as I thought it was.

Just to clarify why I've locked this thread: This thread has really become a discussion about the FHM engine rather than EHM - and we already have a Game Engine / Simulation Thread for EHM here: http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... =3&t=13601
