[EHM:EA] Guide how to take Steam screenshots.

Post by ClassicSwarley »

Hello, guys! I've always wondered how some people were able to take screenshots from EHM:EA and post it on steam if the game doesn't have Steam overlay. Yesterday I did a bit of digging, tried to approach it with logic and it worked! Let me mind you that this is not that easy and takes a bit of work, but for me, it's worth it :-) So here's a guide on how to upload Steam screenshots for EHM:EA:

1) You need to actually take the screenshot. You can use whatever you want, starting from the good ol' Print Screen button, and then upload it on Paint or use some 3rd-party application, like PrtScr.
2) Then, go on to Steam, and find the ''Screenshots'' section. You can also just right click on the Steam icon on the taskbar and there you'll see the option ''Screenshots'' It shouldn't be too hard to find! :-)
3)After you open that tab, you should see a drop down menu, where there'll be some of your games, with screenshots from them. Hopefully, you have at least one screenshot, if not, take one from a game where the screenshot system works. Then, click on the game where you have at least one screenshot and then click on the option ''Show On Disk'' This should open a Windows(I have no clue about other OS, sorry) Explorer, where you'll see a folder ''thumbnails'' and the screenshots you've taken on that game.
4)Now, go back two folders, and create a new folder with the name ''301120''(that is the EHM:EA SteamID), then, inside that folder, create a folder ''screenshots''.
5)Now that you've created those two folders, inside ''screenshots'' you need to create a folder called ''thumbnails'', that's where the thumbnails will go. (THIS MAY SOUND REALLY COMPLICATED BUT YOU ONLY HAVE TO DO ALL OF THIS ONE TIME, AFTER THAT, IT WILL BE MUCH SHORTER!)
6)Now copy your EHM screenshot into the ''screenshots'' folder and rename it to your date, which should look like this:
Image
If you take and upload more than one screenshot, you need to increase the last number by one. Remember to use ''_'' not ''-'' before it, unlike you did with the date.
7)Now open some 3rd-party application where you can resize your pictures, I prefer to use Microsoft Paint because it's simple. Inside of that application, open your screenshot and using the resize tool, resize the picture to 200x150 pixels(that's the Steam thumbnail size) When you've done that, save that resized picture in the ''thumbnails'' folder and name it EXACTLY how you named the original screenshot.
8)Restart Steam, open your ''Screenshots'' tab again, and there it should be, under ''Eastside Hockey Manager:Early Access''! You can add a caption, do whatever you want and upload it to the EHM Steam community and your friends! Enjoy!

This may seem very complicated but I believe there are some people who will go through the hassle because, well, I did too. :-D This may work for other games that don't have steam overlay, but they don't matter. GO EHM!

Would anyone be interested in a tutorial on using Photoshop to both take faster screenshots and to automate the process of bulk naming/thumbnailing for use on Steam?

For me it does this, although i don't want it. I've set it many times so that F12 doesn't take a screenshot but it takes
