Interview with Riz and Miles at FM Sweden

Post by archibalduk »

There's a really interesting interview with Riz and Miles at FM Sweden which I highly recommend reading. Here's the link (in English): http://www.fmsweden.se/page/artiklar/_/ ... iles-r2555

The most notable point is that the game is planned to come out of Early Access next month (December), at which point the game will support additional screen resolutions. Steam Workshop will also become active upon launch.

December is looking to be a rather interesting month! 8-)

Cool interview. Unfortunately they didnt ask any questions about the network mode, i wonder if we'll have the network mode in the full release :dunno:

Nice interview! My hat is off to Riz and the SI crew for keeping the game in Early Access for a short time. I've seen so many games that have been in that state for years and don't look like they're ever going to come out of it.

Riz has clarified/confirmed, and "a network game mode for 30 human managers will be included as well" http://community.sigames.com/showthread ... -EA-Update

Riz has also confirmed in the same link mentioned by Nino that the Champions Hockey League will eventually make it into the game too.

EDIT: Corrected the misleading typo.

I think they mean the European club competition that the KHL teams don't play in

Please comment more experienced and savvy users

1) Is the ending stage of the Early Access means no new large-scale updates and additions to the game?
2) Eventually, there will be no advanced statistics?
3) Do you think that the changes are enough compared to the previous version 2007? I am disappointed

I believe Riz has said previously that he would continue to work on the game regardless. Although I would imagine that if EHM is to see a full time return then work on the EA game (or whatever it will be called) will have to cease so that a new release can be started. But we don't know yet whether the game will return for an official release.

I haven't heard what the plans are for this, if any.

Yes, the changes have been extensive. Lots of old bugs have been fixed, we have a new Player Roles system which is a major step forward in differentiating between the different types of player, updated league rules and structures, database-driven rules/structures/names/etc (rather than being hardcoded), more leagues than before (including more World Championship divisions) a customisable start date, a new hybrid regen/newgen system and various new screens. There's a lot more than that, but that's what comes to mind. Of course there are still some bugs/issues here and there, but there are nonetheless many many changes. I do often think that people see the lack of a UI update or the fixed resolution as meaning the game is the same when it is not.

This is what Riz said

"At the moment it is not yet included but I'm hoping to take a look at it at some point in the future. The structure of it and how teams are selected each year is a bit more complex than regular domestic leagues, so it requires some new elements to the core game as well. "

Sorry! :-D

Just to clarify, this is what Riz said about the Champions Hockey League:
At the moment it is not yet included but I'm hoping to take a look at it at some point in the future. The structure of it and how teams are selected each year is a bit more complex than regular domestic leagues, so it requires some new elements to the core game as well.

Recent Interview with Risto

Post by Rand »

Haven't seen this mentioned elsewhere but there was a very recent interview with Risto and Miles Jacobson on a Swedish site. Has a few interesting bits on the sales of the game, and plans for future additions/changes should the series continue.
Personally, I think the demand has been around what I had hoped for before we went into Early Access, or even a bit better considering we have been relying mostly on just word of mouth to spread the word so far. The community around the old game was still strong, but it has been nice to see old friends of the game find their way back now with the Early Access version and a lot of new fans who have only recently discovered the game.
I don’t think there will be a 3D engine anytime soon in the cards for EHM. The 3D side of things requires a lot of resources from the development team and I’d like to concentrate our resources more on the actual gameplay and functionality, possibly improving the 2D engine further.
Also goes on to state that the game is expected to be finished and out of Early Access in December and will have support for other resolutions. Lots of new (to me anyway) information in the interview so it's well worth reading.

While interesting, I'm going to have to sit on the fence a little longer. Especially after biting on that disaster that was Franchise Hockey Manager.

But hey, the news got me to post for the first time in like four years or so! That's a good thing!
