Shootout Help

Post by helmespc »

I'm in 2023 with the Panthers and have been struggling every year with shootout losses. I've got a team that was going into the season as the #1 ranked team, but I'm closing out the season 10th in the East and missing the playoffs. I'm also 1-8 in the shootout, that is most certainly the difference in making or missing the playoffs. It seems like every year my shootout record is terrible. I keep my players with the highest creativity as my shootout choices... any advice on what I can do to improve this? ](*,)

I might be wrong, but isn't Deking more the attribute for shootouts? Creativity is more for creating scoring chances, finding the open man... right? :-k

My team is struggling too with that. I've got 12 or 13 OT losses in my season and on that only 1 is an OT loss. The rest is all shootout.

Was that an issue before for you? I noticed for me since the lastest patch I've got more problems. So it might be a part of the problem as patches always have a risk to mess with your saves. Because I've got so many players with 16+ in deking that I don't understand why I can't win haha

I haven't seen anything regarding the match engine, but I guess that is possible. :-k

Oh you're right! My bad maybe.

But I still find it weird. I've got at least 5 players with 16 in deking and a couple with 14 and in all my shootout losses I never scored one single goal this year.

I think there is somekind of influence to the shootout if you press confirm in the tactics screen or just press cancel :-k Not sure of this but I've just got this feeling (pressing cancel has gotten me more wins maybe) :D

High deking, high stickhandling, higher-than-average-mental abilities. Maybe not too bad in wristshots. My shootout record has been positive for every year, last year it was 8:2. This season has seen me struggling for the first time, right now it's 5:7, but it still is ok, since my bigger problem isn't scoring but conceding a goal with almost every penalty right now.

I sometimes vary the players taking the penalties, when I see a player with good abilities failing to score for more than 2 shootouts.

Shame you are so long into the game. Could've just signed Sam Gagner to help the situation. I basically won all the shootouts with him in the team.

I went 11-0 in shootouts as the Pittsburgh Penguins, and the only traits I paid attention to were "slapshot" and "wristshot". There might be more to it than that, but, I think those are the two most important traits. (Or, maybe having Sydney Crosby on a team is the most important trait. XD)
