Player Budget, Total Player Salaries, Averaged Club Salary

Post by Diddadiddawidda »

Hi, I'm looking for some clarification on what these figures mean for my team - mainly, is the total player salaries figure the one I want to keep under the player budget or is it the averaged club salary figure I want to keep under the player budget?

Averaged club salary is what you need to keep below the salary cap. Player budget is what your board will allow, max, but it is more likely that the cap will be what you need to look at. That is if you're playing in the NHL.

which of the two: total player salaries and averaged club salary relate to the budget? My budget is around 66 million, my total player salaries is about 66 million, my averaged club salary is around 57 million. One of my players is injured and while I know i have plenty of cap room I'm wondering whether or not I am very slightly over budget or under budget by about 10 million.

Total player salaries is the amount you've invested into your players. The player budget is the limit your board has set for you to spend on players' wages. Averaged club salary is what is counted against the cap.

So I've got plenty of cap room but no real room in terms of signing new players as I have met the player budget? I'm guessing the difference between the averaged club salary and the total player salaries comes from the players in the ahl?

Yes, the league would allow you to sign more players, but not your board.

Yes, AHL players don't count against the cap while they are down. Also having a player on injured reserve will lower the cap hit = averaged salary.
