i just finished my 3rd season with the Hornets. And came SOOO close to playoffs. ](*,)

But honestly I didn't expect it either. Last season we finished 25th and my team hasn't really become any better. Only the signing of Jarome Iginla, but he's still young.

Bad with overperforming with such a bad team is that you get a bad draft pick. :dunno: NHL ranked me dead last at the beginning of the season. :-D

Just finished my first season in HockeyAllsvenskan with AIK. Won the league and beat Leksands IF in promotion playoff and after that managed to snatch a 3-2 victory over Rögle BK in the final game of the series. What a thrill !

Funny thing was that in real life AIK won the league but lost the game with the team relegating from SHL.

Most important signing of the season was Josh Harding in the goal. Also Malte Stromwall was the higlight of the season winning the goalscorer award.

Other honorable mentions : Daniel Olsson Trkulja, Oscar Steén , Andreas Hjelm and Manny Malhotra.

All in all it is an easy league and the fact that you can sign players at any time and release them with no financial impact if they don't fit the bill makes it eeven easier.

Now in the SHL with all the signings i was billed main title contender. With no rules for foreign players i've stacked up on free NHL-ers so it should be a funny ride this season.

I'm curious how other participants on this forum find playing in Sweden ?

There were a lot of rumours about Yzerman getting traded to his hometown Ottawa Senators. Mid-to-late 90s IIRC
There was more than that, there were specific talks IIRC. DET had worked a deal to get Alexei Yashin back for Yzerman, and owner Mike Illitch stepped in and said "No, we will not trade Yzerman, period" and vetoed the move, according to most second-hand accounts. There's some debate as to when exactly this all took place, but evidence points to it being some time between 1995 (when DET lost to NJ in the Cup Finals) and 1997 (when DET won their first Cup in the modern era).

There had been rumblings that Yzerman was "too quiet" as a leader and couldn't lead a team to anything that way (never mind that DET could have maybe won that Cup in 1995 had the league just decided to start calling all Holding and Interference again, in retrospect more people should have realized what it would lead to). DET therefore was going to move Yzerman out, try to get mostly equal talent back, and then bring in another leader to wear the "C".
This is correct. As a lifelong Wings fan I am (and was) so glad they did not make that trade. Yashin was immensely talented but he was no Steve Yzerman and he had some "personality" issues as well.

He's not working out for me. 20 games in the 2003-04 season and he has 7 points, -12, and a 6.30 AvR. That's the brilliance of EHM!

This is my team for 2001/2002 season.

Traded away Nieuwendyk for a second round pick. (never really liked the dude and felt like he was under performing)
Then I also traded away my best prospect Daniel Sedin to CBJ for a first round pick 2005 (a chance to land Crosby :-o) The main reason was because they have Henrik Sedin so I thought they should reunite. :-D

You are very much still a similar team to mine before I restarted a new game. I restarted and took over DET instead to see if I can make them not waste Pavel Datsyuk. :-)

I'm surprised Zalapski is still an NHLer for you though. Sandstrom must also be on his last legs...

Detroit has Datsyuk in my save now.

I suspect it has something to do with his reputation or something why they undervalue his talent and had him in Russia a few years.

That's not Joey Kocur you have in goal on the farm, right? :-)

Or did you decide "what the heck" and somehow train him to goalie, since he already could do F and D?

TBL Rosters 8.1 - Season 6 - Edmonton Oilers:
Starting with the 2020/21 season I started to go more in-depth with the line and unit tactics. After winning the SC in 2020, the goal was to defend it. Key additions to the roster were the re-signing of UFA Taylor Hall in mid August, UFA Michael Raffl (when Hall got injured with a partially torn ACL) and and offer sheet to Patrik Laine (1m/1y, no compensation for CBJ. Crazy). I parted ways with Leon Draisaitl (with a 2nd round pick for two excellent prospects), backup goalie Cam Talbot (promoted a prospect from the AHL) and a couple of depth players.

Couldn't defend the the winning of the President's Trophy, but Connor McDavid (2nd line center behind Steven Stamkos) hit the three digits and put up 47g53a for 100p in 82 games, being up 17 point to 2nd placed Auston Matthews. Oilers' Stamkos and Comtois came 3rd and 4th with 81 points each. The regular season ended not good with only winning 1 out of the 5 last games.

In the playoffs I also tried to slightly adapt the tactics to each opponent and let my players rest in practice when needed (going with an all intensive schedule during the rest of the year). This turned out perfectly with winning the Stanley Cup putting up a 16-0 record! Game 4 was topped off with a 5OT GWG by the marvelous Connor McDavid in the 157th minute. :joy: No 1 D-man Darnell Nurse got injured only 13 seconds into Game 4 suffering a broken foot while blocking a slapshot.

In the AHL my farmteam won the Calder Cup after after almost being eliminated in round 1 of the playoffs. My second Calder Cup after 2017. Let's see if I can incorporate some of the talent there into the NHL-club.

What's the plan for the upcoming season? Adding to my NHL and AHL GMs, I will also start playing in the WHL, trying to bring more glory to the City of Champions using the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Awesome! I used to love playing with newly promoted div1 teams in Allsvenkan, and later Elitserien if lucky, and see how far I could take them (compare with lower league challenges in FM).

Too make it more realistic, and more fun, I usually went with own rules similar to the challenge rules used on this site, some examples:

* No "free agent" signing of, or "trades for", older than 22 years (based on age at start of league date)
* ...but OK to resign older players while they are still under contract with your team
* No more than 3 contracted foreign players (in your senior team, usually didn't count youth prospects)
* Must maintain a "realistic" youth setup, usually I went with at least two goalies, 6 defenders and 12 forwards in the J20 & J18 teams (combined). In EHM 2007 this was usually not that difficult as youth players was "created" for you each year. I had some issues with this in EHM 1 some months ago (empty juniors team and no new players). Might be fixed now.
* Try to pick a team from a "small town" (check DB or google it) for a real challenge (budget constraints) :help:

"free agent" and "trades" are different compared to NHL but you see my point I guess. :-)

bolts challange 42 with 98 retro database in challenge forum.

started of with a sucky superbad team, with the trade rules and retro 98 database its very diffcult get good staff and players. Took me 4 seson to get a decent team. I am now into seson 8 and love how my youngsters devolved. Seing flyers draft ovechkin in 04 and then crosby in 05.

Realy recomend this challange for anyone looking for a real challange with very nice historic/ retro tuch.

In bolts i got the sedin brothers and loved draft em and see em grow up to superstars. Daniel is amazing winger doing 90-100p sesons.

My defence needs help. And the pick last year ended up being top 5 that landed in Edmontons hands for Eberle. (Trade was Andrey Pedan+2017 1st VAN for Eberle)

I just finished my third season in charge at Lehigh Valley in the AHL. We made the playoffs all three years but never went higher than division finals. I've had this game for a few months and have played a few saves, I've never had this much trouble finding quality goaltending. It's been three seasons and I'm still having to rely on a tandem pushing each other. The Flyers have sent me some excellent forwards, by AHL standards, so we're winning a lot of games but not having that stud goalie is really killing us in the playoffs.

I remember when this happened, it was October and November of 1995. The Wings started the next regular season after the loss to the Devils and Bowman was playing Yzerman on the third and fourth lines, a lot of talk on WDFN about this trade but I don't remember anyone confirming the talks actually took place.

I wouldn't have made that trade but it wouldn't have broken my heart either. I think that trade would be a bad deal for a lot of teams but the Wings were different, a young Yashin playing under Bowman with that many experienced Russian players around him would have ,IMO, had a far different career than he ended up having. If you wanted to write a book about how not to treat a young player look no further than how the Sens broke Yashin.

It doesn't really matter though, the Wings finally won for one reason only, they got rid of Keith Primeau. :-D

My panthers lost the final of the champions league. 8-3 despite being so good defensively all year. cannot believe I got to the final with the elite league team.

I may start again though. I want to win in season one.

or I may just move to another country. like Sweden, in the game whats the lowest level of Swedish hockey I can start at and bring up to the top of the Swedish pyramid
