Offense was solid as we had 8 10+ goal scorers(Including 19 from Dan McGillis and 27 from Alex Daigle)
2nd in the East with a 55-25-2 Record and went against our arch-rivals of the 90's, the New Jersey Devils. Took seven thrilling games but we knocked them off, winning Game 6 and 7.
Next up was the Dominator and the Buffalo Sabres. We fell in Game 1(4-2), but the Beezer shut the door on the Sabres allowing only four goals as the Flyers rattled off four straight.
In a rematch of the 1996-97 Eastern Conference Finals, we met the Rangers to punch our ticket into the Cup Finals versus a VERY DOMINATE Red Wings Team. Alas our dream was crushed as our top defenseman Eric Desjardin was knocked out of Game 5 with a Hip Pointer and would miss the remainder of the series as would Petr Svoboda. Our Blueline consisted of McGillis, Chris Joseph, Richardson, rookies Andy Delmore and Dmitri Tertyshny and Garry Galley(Acquired in a minor trade). We fought hard but the Rangers won in six.
Phantoms fell to the Fredericton Canadiens in the Conference Finals in 7 Games
Detroit would go 16-1 en route to a Stanley Cup Championship
Was able to sign Rafalski, Visnovsky, Hlavac and Kim Johnsson to contracts.
