I currently play EHM but understand it's not going to be released again so FHM 3 could well be my go-to hockey sim. I will follow this thread to follow developments and to get the views of others before purchasing.

I'd like to ask will the game have licenses for other leagues mainly the AHL and CHL, and if not, would there be third-party customisable databases?

That's not quite what they said. SI said they had no current plans to work on a full time release. It is still business as usual with Riz working on it in his spare time.

But back on the topic of FHM 3...

I thought this question/answer from the FHM/OOTP website earlier today gave a good overview of FHM3...

SlyBelle - Just curious if there is any specific date where more of the enhancements will be identified? From what I have seen so far, I know we have NHL licenses, better tactics, new game mode, and improved UI.....all good stuff, but I am really interested to know what else was done to improve all the other features....are you able to share at a high-level some of the other "smaller" things?

Sebastian - National teams, international tournaments, world rankings (works all hand in hand of course), much more news (like milestones, streaks, great performances and so on), complete new injury system with context based injuries and different body parts, central scouting agency, complete new tactics system, complete new player role system, re-worked game rating with 3 values now (offense, defense, overall), more stats, achievements, Steam Works, better scaled stars (using the complete scale from 0.5-5.0), new GM/coach score system, new reputation system (based on individual leagues and worldwide now) and many tweaks, fixes and small stuff.

I also rework the In-Game presentation a bit at the moment. Once I finished it I will give a few more details here as well (no 2D3D ;)).

Regarding the "new game mode" mentioned by SlyBelle, here's a question/answer from a couple days ago...

Empach - I am curious is the "All-New 'Path To Glory' Mode" just the standard modern game, or is it a separate mode?

Sebastian - It is basically the modern mode (you can play Path to Glory with a fictional or historical game as well, but it makes the most sense with the big world modern game) but focused on your career. There are no fast-sim options, no commish mode, a very strict game flow. We want you to really dive into the world and your (and other) leagues. We added many news and PM´s, yo you see what is going on in the world, streaks, milestones, great game performances, awards, etc. Basically your goal is to start with an unproven Coach/GM, gain experience over time, improve your skills, get more popular, maybe get to coach a national team and ultimately enter the Hall of Fame at the end.

Some more comments from Sebastian on the new game mode - In career mode there is a limit to your seasons. But with no speed sim options and playing the day to day operations, the limit should be more then enough. You also can continue in your game world with a new GM/Coach.......(What is the limit?) We are still experiment with it but expect something around 25 to 30 seasons.......We have a Sandbox mode which is basically what you know from last year. The new career mode is for the many people that want to play day to day and do all the daily work, see what happens in the league and so on.......

And finally, regarding the match engine...

Mr Driscoll - Just curious as to what the match engine is like? Will you be able to see player and puck movement or is it through text description?

Sebastian - We don´t have a 2D/3D view. We show what zone the puck is (and which player has it) and we also show all events happening (moves, passes, shots, hits, ...). But it is in the form of text description.

The above questions/answers taken from the following thread http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/board/f ... r-now.html

IMO the "Path to Glory" mode shows a better developer understanding of how the majority of hockey simulation aficionados play, as opposed to the "simming many seasons quickly with little to no user involvement and looking at the results" style of play that some seem to prefer

Yes, Sebastian wrote about this. He said that he understands both kind of games, but he himself prefers the first part, and allegedly more users do too, so for now the main focus will be for the first kind of gamers. I think it's a good approach.

I'm not trying to be negative but i don't see how fhm3 can be better than the current ehm game if it doesnt even have a 2d engine.

If you need a 2D engine, then EHM is the way to go. At this point we think it is better to improve the core game and stats output to mimic the real world as close as possible. Doing a realistic looking 2D engine which also produces realistic results is very time consuming and with our limited resources just not doable at this point. I also think that many people don´t care about a 2D engine (myself I never use it when playing Football Manager for example).

And here's something else I thought worth sharing (posted today in the same thread/link noted above), Sebastian explaining the difference between Path to Glory & sandbox mode...

Path to Glory = play a career (gain experience, improve your skills, get more famous, retire, maybe enter the HOF). Do the day to day work of a GM/Coach (still possible to play GM Only if you wish), see what happens around you, see what your team does, enjoy the up´s and down´s of a hockey manager.

User who will like it: the ones that enjoy the day to day work, people who want to see the season evolve (not only your league but also all the tournaments, maybe other leagues of interest as well), streaks going on and end, milestones reached, great performances, player going down with an injury, etc.
User who will not like it: speed-junkies and edit fans. ;)

Sandbox-Mode = experiment around with different scenarios. You want to sim a historical league from the beginning to the end and then look at the history? This is your mode. You want to see what the NHL season might look when Crosby plays for another team? Test it out. You want to sim quickly and let the AI handle everything. Do it. You want to start different fictional scenarios, maybe do a expansion? Play day by day or sim month by month? In this mode it is possible.

Our main focus was and will be on the first mode. That is the one we will continue to flash out going forward (many additions of course show up in Sandbox mode as well). Please see the Sandbox mode as a bonus to the normal game which allows you to play around with different scenarios. It is more basic then OOTP but IMO still a cool thing to play different what-if scenarios.

I never really cared about the 2D engine, so the lack of one here doesn't bother me. Path to Glory mode sounds great. The more I hear about this game, the more hopeful and interested I am.

I do love being able to watch goals etc, but a 2d engine is just a nice to have IMO. If it produces realistic results and you can follow the game using the commentary then I'm happy. I'd be just as happy with EHM if it didn't have a 2d engine.

Really wnated to give this a chance again and jump on it early but with the weird Exchange rate and added "taxes" on PayPal the 29 Dollars suddenly turned into 35 Euros, which in was a major turn-off. So i guess i will wait and get this one in a later sale.

Unfortunately that is something we have no influence in. But you are right, the game will have sales of different kinds over the year, so enough time to pick it up and test it later.

Great to see that FHM comes again :)
I expect to see the French Ligue Magnus on FHM one day :)
They have licence on an Android Game, so I think it's an easy licence to have.

We have the Ligue Magnus in FHM, just not officially licensed (so no official logos get shipped with the game). But we try to get more licenses in the future, so maybe one day they will be part of FHM as well. :)

Yes, my point was to see the ligue magnus licenced in the game :)
They have worked for the first time on a licence for a game : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gekx3v6u0pY
So I think they will be interested about a licence in other games. And in 2017, we have the world championchip in France

I like 'The Guarantee' #RANGERS :)

Am a die-hard EHM-guy but really impressed with the interface and would like to see how it plays, will there be a demo?

Shouldn't "Win the NHL Championship" be "Win the Stanley Cup"?

Yeah, would be the better word choice, I changed it. I´m not even allowed to post this screen without getting the allowance from the NHL, so psssst. :)
