Maybe he thought the Ducks would fold? At the pay rate of his new contract he'd already lost over half a million sitting out (and if the Ducks weren't budging, that amount of "lost money" was only going to increase)Peter_Doherty wrote:If that was true then he would have signed before the season, no?philou21 wrote:Nice deal fur the Ducks though! Escrow set at 15.5% for the first quarter of the NHL season http://www.tsn.ca/talent/nhl-players-se ... w-1.590263
I wish the players would stop exercising the escalator clause every year, and just accept financial reality. Final numbers are not yet released for last year (when the escrow was 17%); the previous 3 years the players lost 12.95%, 10.2% and 14.7% of their salaries (so those that think the Salary Cap is going up every year, it's actually most definitely not!)
With the low Canadian dollar (no signs of that changing anytime soon) affecting HRR, and a disproportionate amount of HRR coming from Canada, at some point there's going to have to be a reckoning (a significant Salary Cap reduction); I think this is likely affecting contract amounts for more recent signings

We can book a lockout in 2020 already. Kinda funny that Lindholms contract is structured in a way to account for a lockout, his lowest salary year is 2020/2021 with only $3.75m that year.

Patrik Laine's wrister speaks again.

Contracs are usually equal or start high and then decline. Surprised to see O'Reilly getting 11 mil. this season.

That's weird. And only 3 mil. this season also.Peter_Doherty wrote:We can book a lockout in 2020 already. Kinda funny that Lindholms contract is structured in a way to account for a lockout, his lowest salary year is 2020/2021 with only $3.75m that year.

Early season fun with small sample sizes:
Ristolainen with Gorges 39.4 CF%
Ristolainen without Gorges 51.6 CF%
Gorges without Ristolainen 19.0 CF%
Less fun fact: Bylsma said he likes what Gorges brings to the pairing](./images/smilies/wallbash.gif)

Craig Anderson's personal reason for leaving the team is actually his wife learning that she has cancer. That sucks.

Fun game for a Pens fan or just a neutral fan- as a Flyers fan, I died a little on the inside after those three quickly conceded goals.MWE wrote:5 goals in the first period of the Flyers vs Penguins been a good game so far

It's refreshing to see players like Radulov and Weber with MTL. They put up so far a good entertainment. Weber's goal that made it 2-1 was a lazer shot. I'm amazed each time he scored with a snap. Can't believe some players have to guts to stand in front of him!

Does anybody know what happened to Nashville?
Losing of Shea Weber shouldn't be huge problem, they've got P.K. Subban... I wonder why they are loosing almost every game. I've seen them only once this season (win against Chicago) and they looked quite impressive.

Not really sure what's wrong but forwards are definitely underperforming, they're just not scoring, add that they have one of the worst starters in the league in Rinne.Modano wrote:Does anybody know what happened to Nashville?Losing of Shea Weber shouldn't be huge problem, they've got P.K. Whoa! I've just checked on Rinne's stats, they are just awful, he's overpayed just like Dallas' netminders. I remember Rinne as great goalie, an absolute elite level... Even if I don't care about Nashville it's sad to see he didn't come back after injury

Re: Official NHL Season 2016-2017 Thread
IMO Weber is everything Subban is offensively and so much more (a defensive game, a physical presence, real leadership); Subban's been great at promoting himself, but with what he brings on the ice and to a team with his "presence" it doesn't surprise me that Nashville's strugglingModano wrote:Losing of Shea Weber shouldn't be huge problem, they've got P.K. IMO Montreal won the hockey trade hands down, Nashville may have won the entertainment trade (but even in future years I don't see Subban ever being anything than a source of entertainment, he can't possibly be a real leader with the "me first" perspective; I don't think Subban will ever play for Team Canada, or win a Stanley Cup)

I think it proved my point when I gave my opinion about the trade. The season is still young but people who were whining in Quebec about that trade are no where to be found these days.nino33 wrote:IMO Weber is everything Subban is offensively and so much more (a defensive game, a physical presence, real leadership); Subban's been great at promoting himself, but with what he brings on the ice and to a team with his "presence" it doesn't surprise me that Nashville's strugglingModano wrote:Losing of Shea Weber shouldn't be huge problem, they've got P.K. He dropped off a cliff like 4 years ago, bounced back some 14/15 but he's been terrible for 3 of the last 4 seasons and started this season horribly aswell.Modano wrote:Whoa! PK is still a better individual player then Weber imo, he drives play 5v5 in a way Weber isn't capable of. Weber does however fit Habs system better and he's really really good on the PP.
The contracts alone means that Preds won that trade for me almost no matter what happens on the ice.
I think Preds will get going soon enough.

If Bylsma decided to ditch the stretch pass for good, Sabres are easily a playoff team with Kane and Eichel

Weber's already got more PP goals than Subban had all of last season! And Subban was supposed to be the more offensive between the two
Given Weber's scoring, and the fact he's MUCH better at actually playing defense (and one of the few guys that can still intimidate other players with their hitting, changing the way other players play), I don't think "5v5 driving the play" stats matter much

Sure, Weber is good, very good even. But Subban is a top 5 defenseman in the world.
The Weber hype is going to die out when the inevitable regression hits Montreal
