Players going to the Olympics and not coming back.

Post by krownroyal83 »

I'm playing the 2017-18 season and the NHL players are off to the Olympics and for some reason the schedule never goes past the Group Stage. Because of this there are no Olympic playoffs and the NHL players don't end up going back to the teams at the end of February in time for the NHL season to start back up. They just stick with their international clubs until late March which causes them to each miss around 10 games. This has occurred in both tests that I have done. Keep in mind I am new using rosters found on steam workshop. They have a 2017-18 start date with updated rosters and includes the Vegas Golden Knights. Anyone else ever have this issue? Also using the most updated version of EHM 1.4.1.

That database was put up by a person who took another's work (minus fixes/updates that have occurred) and tried to claim it as their own and asked for PayPal donations for it too!

I'd suggest, as a starting point to solving your issues, try the database by the actual creator and see if the same issues occur http://www.ehmtheblueline.com/forums/vi ... 90&t=18299

Oh really? Wow, thanks for the feed back. I was able to solve the problem by just taking the Olympics out completely as they were not that important and its unlikely the real NHL is ever going in 2018 anyway.

Interesting...what do you have to do/edit to delete the Olympics?

Used the EHM Editor and just changed the date of the Next Olympics to a much later date. I choose 2099 just because I don't think I'll have a save that long :) It worked. I changed the date for Olympic pre-qualifier to 2099 as well just to be safe.

You always have to edit also the 2 qualifying tournaments to avoid any clash with olympics draw

Thanks!

The more we can get "public" about how things are accomplished, the more that'll get accomplished IMO :-)

Good catch. I didn't know there were 2 qualifying tournaments. "Final Olympic Qualification" is the one I missed. However when missing it this didn't cause the NHL players to head off to the Olympics so I don't think it matters but best to change it just to be safe. I'm new to using this Editor so i'm learning as I go :)

Yeah I hadn't been able to figure this out.

In the 2016-17 database, the settings are (Round, Actual Dates, "Draw Date" and Year Offset in Schedule)
Pre-Q: Nov 8-11 (M-Th), 1.9.2016, Offset 0
Final-Q: Feb 6-9 (M-Th), 1.12.2016, Offset 1
Oly: Feb 14-25 (W-Su), 1.12.2017, Offset 1

I don't quite get how the schedule offset and the draw date affect things. I know for certain that in my 17-18 DB, the Olympics stop midway through the finals/playoff. I also know that for certain this is because the NHL Alternate Schedule Template and the Olympic Scheduling are not playing nice together. The dates look fine in the editor in terms of the Alternate schedule having an appropriate break but then, because the Olympics have a "day of the week" attached, it slides the Olympic dates around, causing a clash and causing the Olympics to simply stop midway (and likely guys not returning).

For example, it my 2022 season now, the Pre-Qualifying and Finals Qualifying all went off without a hitch. The Olympics started without a hitch, Group Stages went fine but then the Olympics "stopped" after the Playoff Quarterfinals. And I know why - the Olympics are flagged not to interfere with competing competitions - of which I assume the NHL Alternate Schedule is one.

So even though my Editor says the Olympics are to start on February 14 (Wednesday) and end on the 25th (Sunday) and the NHL alternate schedule has a break from February 9 through 25 - the actual start date of the Olympics is February 16 (Wednesday) and end on the 27th (Sunday) and the actual NHL alternate schedule has a break from February 7 through 22. So when the NHL resumes on the 23rd, the Olympics freeze up and although the game keeps playing, no Olympic history is recorded and the NHL players don't come back from the twilight zone.

But neither the Olympic Schedule nor the NHL alternate schedule match up in the editor with real dates. I get why the Olympic schedules shifts to the nearest Wednesday...but why does February 9 in the NHL schedule template not equal February 9 in the game?

Hey BK I enjoy your database updates a lot. When I encountered the Olympic bug (in V1.1) I was also confused about how games would run up to 2 days past the schedule. I played with an older version of this DB and never had an Olympic bug but that DB started in the 2016 year.

Just had it happen to me. Had to take control of the National teams that were holding my players hostage and emptied their rosters.

I fixed it for the time being by simply de-coupling the Olympic dates and draw dates from being on specific days. This keeps the Olympics played within the designated range of the NHL break in the NHL's alternate schedule for Olympics years. It does mean the Olympics might not always start on Wednesday or finish on a specific day but I'm frankly not that concerned about that right now. They are on the correct years, NHL players go and come back, no NHL games occur during the break - good enough for me!

It is fixed in my latest Vegas DB update:

Which dates did you change them to so I can change it in the save game editor?
