Using Excel to Edit Rosters?

So I've heard that it's possible to use Excel to edit rosters? I've tried using the editor to export rosters as CSVs but I can't figure out how best to edit the CSV and import it again. Is there a guide somewhere to using Excel to edit rosters? I like the editor but it can be a bit slow to search for players.

The Editor uses preset forms of spreadsheets for editing/importing data. You can create these by clicking on the following in the Editor (you don't have to load a database first): Tools -> Import Spreadsheet -> Create Templates. You can choose the format by selecting CSV, XLSX or XML before clicking on the Create Templates button. XLSX is the generally the best format to use.

To move a player to a team, you would open the staff.xlsx file (which is created via Create Templates above), enter the player's name and DOB and you can then adjust the Club Playing and/or Club Contracted columns accordingly. Once your spreadsheet is ready, open the chosen database in the Editor and click on Tools -> Import Spreadsheet -> Import Spreadsheet.

Actually, is there a way to filter players that associated with but not necessarily playing in a league? I wanted to try my hand at re-rating NHL players and prospects, so I don't need to see players that aren't players or prospects (including owned rights) in the NHL.

You can use the Research Sheet referenced in the guide I mentioned above - but this will only show players contracted and/or playing for an NHL team (that's as far as you can filter for now).

So could you then also use excel no not only edit the rosters, but also create new players? because I'm trying to add new, created players to certain draft years, but they never show up when I use the editor, would it work with Excel instead?

Yes the same spreadsheet can be used to create new players and staff too. You just need to put "a" or "add" in the Mode column for those persons you want to create.

Well, it seems like I have missed a lot of things . Honestly, I did not know that it is possible to use Excel to edit rosters. It sounds like an exciting and helpful feature. Wait, but how can you use the same spreadsheet to create new players and staff too?! I mean, that sounds a bit unrealistic. I have actually been using tableau to create interactive visual analytics for all of my players.

Just a heads up, this thread is 6 years old, but I'm happy to help you out with your Excel conundrum. Excel is definitely a great tool to use when it comes to editing rosters. Here's a quick rundown of how to do it: Export the roster as a CSV file from your editor Open up the CSV file in Excel Make any changes you need to the roster (adding, deleting or editing players) Save the file Import the CSV file back into your editor As for guides, there are plenty of YouTube videos and online tutorials out there that can help you out. Additionally, if you're looking to [Admin: URL removed], I found this awesome deal. They've got Office 2021 Professional Plus for Windows at a really good price. It's definitely worth checking out.

I have recently tried to mass edit players PA with Excel. I have created xlsx research sheet but unable to impprt it.

First editor complains about too many columns. I have removed five from the end "Not imported"

Then I have got error xlsx with complains of Birth City if birth city is entered. I haven't manage to solve this.

Any tips?

Example:

1. Export to .CSV 123.csv using following selections:

Export all entries
Club Competition (Filtered to Finnish Liiga)
Research sheet
Players non-players

Export Data.

2. Try to import same 123.CSV which we just exported.

I got error "ERR_TOO_MANY_COLUMNS_OF_DATA

Then I can either disable "Do not create duplicates" or delete few cells with excel.

Anyways next error is "All rows contain errors. Details of errors have been saved to spreadsheet"

When I open error spreadsheet there is tons of errors about Birth city.

I have tried to play around with different import and export settings, XLSX and CSV files with Excel and Notepad++ Reduced to only one player, tried to use template but this error seems to be unavoidable!

I managed to solve my issue.

I needed to check "Use nation abbreviations" at Arena & City Names, "Long names" at Club names and "Full date of birth" in Dates of birth!

I somehow thought that these settings are only to be used if I import arenas or cities

Hopefully this post will save some time and effort from next one who is facing problems

I'm trying to do add player history, but i notice the editor only allows for gp g a pim and +/-, is there any way to add more stats to player histories?? Also for goalies there's no column for shots against. Thx.

No unfortunately the EHM database only supports a limited range of stats. The Editor will let you import/export all the stats supported by the database. The remainder of the stats are generated in-game within the saved game.
