The joys of challenges helping find random things:

I cannot for the life of me figure out why Jason Dawe is a Group 5 UFA (potentially) in the Islanders Challenge. In my game under the contract screen it says "Expires, June 1999 (Unrestricted Free Agent- Group V). From what I can find of the 2006 CBA:

"Means any Player who has completed ten (10) or more professional seasons (minor league or NHL seasons, but excluding any season in Major Juniors), and who did not earn in the final year of his SPC more than that year's Average League Salary,..."

I see Jason as having professional games in:
92-93, 93-94, 94-95, 95-96, 96-97, 97-98 and in my game 98-99. That's 7 seasons, not 10. (Heck, he's 25... so there's no way for 10 seasons!)

Not sure if this is a game or roster error, but thought I'd start here before I post in the SI forums as a game bug.

I have no clue. Maybe nino has any ideas?! Sounds very weird.

My starting point was "I don't have a clue" HaHa
I'm not into CBAs and all the different contract rules (at all!), so I used Google and what I found I think indicates things are working correctly...

Unrestricted Free Agency - For the 2005-06 season, a player age 31 with four accrued seasons will be an unrestricted free agent; in 2006-07, a player age 29 with four accrued seasons or with eight accrued seasons; in 2007-08, a player age 28 with four accrued seasons or with seven accrued seasons; beginning in 2008-09 and for the duration of the agreement, a player age 27 with four accrued seasons or with seven accrued seasons will be an unrestricted free agent. For purposes of qualifying for unrestricted free agency, the 2004-05 cancelled season will be counted as a year of accrued service.

Just wondering... If i play in the NHL how far down is the draft goes that has real life draft classes... Also if i become say a expansion team that joins in 2000 do i just take over the other teams to trade the players or can i use the ehm 1 editor and open my save file and move the players?

IIRC it goes to the current or following draft year (from when it was released); the historical drafts contain those who made an impact on the NHL (or who were expected to for the last few drafts), and not every player who was drafted in every draft year

No expansion teams "join" (the three expansion teams are already part of the NHL at startup)

The 1998 DB was initially created for EHM07, when a 30 team NHL was the only option
The 1998 DB was last worked on last fall, before Archi's Editor allowed the editing of league structures (like # of teams)

There is no EHM Editor that allows players to be moved from team-to-team or edit contracts in a saved game (can't be done)

Lemieux retires on 1/25/99.

Then his number 10 is retired by the Pens.

First off, I'm a huge fan of these rosters, I really enjoy working and drafting these young superstars. But I want to edit some of the players on my own time, for a more personal experience. So I'm trying to learn how to edit a roster, more specifically the 1998/99 roster, but I don't really know how to do so. Are there any particular tools or applications that can be used to edit them? And any information as to how I can put the new database into the game would be helpful. I don't know if there is a forum for this, so if necessary, a referral to that would be helpful as well.

Hey guys,

I am currently playing as the New York Rangers with the 98/99 rosters and I was wondering why my board won't allow me to offer more than 6 M on top free agents ? My estimated cap salary is currently at 38.4 M, while the salary cap is at 48 and my player budget at 57 M..

I was also wondering if it's normal that every year there's way too many top end player on the free agent market ? After 3 season I've seen Jagr, Yzerman, Fedorov, Hasek, Bure, Forsberg, Bourque, etc.. on the market which doesn't make much sense.. I was just wondering if it's happening to anyone else ?

Currently playing around with this DB and having a lot of fun.

I added 98-99 rules with the editor (Ties, no shoot-out, red line offside etc.)

Swapped Jets with thrashers* to create a 98-99 feeling and, made the expansion rosters (or close to) of Wild, Thrashers and Jackets.

*and because I felt bad for the Jets having to play in the Southeast division for all eternity

Hello dear Retro roster fans.

Now as the 17/18 Database is out of the way. I'm back at working on this database.

What I will do or at least try to do:
1.) I'm mostly looking into improving the 1000+ future NHL players. Adding a few/many important attributes to players manually. As the game generates them randomly based on only "player role" and "Current Ability", I wasn't satisfied with that. I don't want future McDavid to have for example 14 in Acceleration and Speed. Or Ovechkin to have 14 in Slap and Wrist shot in their prime.
2.) Re-adjust all players CA and PA. Meaning better draft rankings. Draft steals there will be as players PA is somewhat random. But I don't want Lundqvist to go 205th overall in the game in 2000 ... nor Pavelski as 205th 2003 for example like they did IRL. Realistic retro experience is what we/I am aiming for. But not when it comes to drafting players. A human will rob all AI managers if we'd try to be that realistic in the draft.
3.) Adding 2018-2019 NHL draftees

How you can help! Tell me anything you're dissatisfied with really. And I will consider it. I'm looking to add more "great/good" players into the game.
Maybe they never played an NHL game? That doesn't mean they shouldn't be in this DB. In the late 90's there were A LOT of great players outside of NHL, I noticed as I worked with this database. And there are still today (mainly Russians). So anything at all. Just post it here.

Will you be converting the master database to the EHM 1 format? If so, I will work on the UK league structures for you. The players are already rated; it's just that the 2006 ruleset doesn't include the playable leagues.

I will not do that. As I'm not familiar with it, how it works. Once we/I get all these things into the DB. We can convert it. And those who has the knowledge, change league sizes and stuff to make it more "realistic"

Also my favorite DB to play.

I've done some work of my own on this DB, version 1.1b, such as:

*Added missing player histories, there are only 10-15 NHL players with no histories left, mainly on Dallas, Colorado and Nashville.
*Added missing player rights (Cheechoo etc)

I thought this was a dead project so I've done some other work, such as some slight re-rating of players and added expansion rosters to MIN, ATL and CBJ. Since I'm not BKarchitect the quality of my work probably isn't the best, but if you want to use some it in the official release (missing player rights and histories) let me know.

If you got player pictures that are missing from the 98 database (I know there are a lot), I'd be glad to take them and implement the into the facepack.

It will list everyone, but it can be filtered by league. I can add CA/PA to the list so that you can filter by that too.

A little update for everyone interested.

This past half year I've worked on this DB. I've done a lot. But still much to do before a huge release.

Done so far:
- 300+ future prospects will be added to the DB, still in a spreadsheet. (Hoffman, Lee, Marchessault, Klingberg, Stone, Parayko, Arvidsson, Gostisbehere, Slavin, Montour, Kerfoot, Pesce, Point, Darling, Mrázek, Hellebuyck, Murray; just to name a few that were missing)
- 99% of all future prospects will be included in the facepack. Deleted many doubles, corrected those who had wrong name/DOB.
- Re-evaluated all future prospects player roles and position.
- All future prospects have now a "favorite" jersey number.

Working on right now:
- Majority of all future prospects will have some or almost half of their attributes manually imputed by me.
I didn't like how many players had a lot of weird attributes not really reflecting how they are in real life.
So I'm aiming for a speedy McDavid. A great stickhandling/deking P.Kane. And great shooting Laine.

PS: What I mean with future prospects are players drafted 1999-2019. Right now up to 1300+ players.
