Manimal recently asked how to set what teams appear on the in-game History screen listing the champions, runners up etc. I thought I'd post my response here too.
There are up to four teams that can be added to the History screen, depending on what settings you choose. These are: Playoff Winner, Playoff Runner-up, Playoff Third Place and Regular Season Champion. The UK Elite Ice Hockey League is an example of where all four are listed. This is not always appropriate and so you can restrict the number of teams/positions shown.
Here are the key settings in the Editor using the Rules & Structure editing screen:
Basic Data tab:
- Stage for history record: Which stage of the competition should be used for the history record entry. Usually the playoff stage.
Flags tab:
There are a number of flags you can enable:
- Uses top only places for history: If the competition history should list only top team rather than top 3 Disabling this should allow for the top three to be listed.
- Uses top two places for history: If the competition history should list only top 2 teams rather than top 3. Disabling this should allow for the top three to be listed.
- Uses medals for top places: If the competition history should display "gold/silver/bronze" instead of "winner/runner-up/third placed". This will be why the Slovakian Second Division is showing medals rather than winner, runner-up and third placed.
- Declares regular season champion: If the competition tracks regular season champions. I believe this means that you will get winner, runner-up, third placed and regular season champion in the history (you could use this setting in conjunction with Uses Top Only/Two Place(s) flag). See the EIHL for an example.
Stages tab: To set a regular season champion:
(1) Go to the regular season stage
(2) On the Stages -> Rules screen, enable the "Regular Season Champions" Fate Rule.
(3) On the Stages -> Structure screen, make sure the "Process Fate Action" setting it enabled/ticked.
Stages tab: To set a playoff champion:
(1) Go to the playoffs stage
(2) On the Stages -> Rules screen, enable the "Champions" Fate Rule.
(3) On the Stages -> Structure screen, make sure the "Process Fate Action" setting it enabled/ticked.

P.s. I know we have used just a single thread HERE to discuss editing league rules and structures in the past. However, I think it is helpful if specific topics are broken into separate threads from now on. It'll avoid useful information getting lost in a sea of posts.

Thanks so much for doing this!archibalduk wrote:P.s. I know we have used just a single thread HERE to discuss editing league rules and structures in the past. I tried a while back and then basically gave up on trying to edit league rules/structures/etc because of the lack of clear direction/instruction....this kind of thing you're providing is exactly what I need (the specific step-by-step instructions) - thank you very much!

Re: League rules/structures: Histories & champions
Funny you should say that! I am in the process of writing a guide on how to create new playable leagues from scratch using the Editor. Annoyingly, I lost my first draft when clearing out some files (4 hours work down the drain) and so I'm starting again - hopefully it'll be better second time round!
I am trying to present the guide using simple tables and tips rather than lengthy/long-winded text. I have been helping Manimal get familiar with editing league rules and a lot of his questions are forming the basis of what I'll cover in my guide - but I'm obviously happy to consider including anything specific you or others might want covered.

Re: League rules/structures: Histories & champions
I haven't looked at things in ages; as I recall mostly it's league structures and also editing the Worlds/international play I was thinking about; at the time I really struggled with figuring out how to edit league structures and decided I'd "leave it until the players/staff editing is done"archibalduk wrote:I am trying to present the guide using simple tables and tips rather than lengthy/long-winded text. I suspect what's helpful for Manimal/TBL will be helpful for alternative rosters too
