Those are absolutely brutal penalties for Kuznetsov and Kucherov to take in the 3rd of the RUS-USA game. Unbelievably costly for them. They just imploded.

We'll see what Team USA does. Jeff Blashill is on a very hot seat in DET and there's been the Coaching vs Talent argument brewing. If he can medal with Team USA, it'll certainly give weight to the Talent argument as the problem in DET. Youth is serving USA well thus far.

Only 15 minutes away from the biggest game of the tournament for Latvia and it's against the hosts. It's definitely going to be tough because I feel like both teams are evenly matched, so may the best team win!

Not looking that good for Latvia. 19-4 shots already. I'm at my friend right now. TV showing FIN-CAN. Computer showing GER-LAT.

But Canada is playing our Finns... 4-1 already.

It wasn't the best game for us today. Our coaches think too much that just because a player is from the NHL he then is super-human.

Well the Russia v USA and Latvia v Germany games were worth the trip alone. Russia were largely the better team IMO. They are a cut above the rest of the Group and spectacular to watch. USA lacked a bit of physicality. Those late Russian penalties cost Russia the game.

Gutted for Latvia as they deserved the win tonight. Germany ran out of gas early on and were fortunate with their first goal - it was clearly offside from where we were sat but no doubt harder for the officials at ice level.

Really looking forward to seeing Canada on Thursday. From that perspective I was pleased with the Germany result.

Can't remember who scored it, but there was a cracking goal by Sweden today when he shot his own rebound off the boards.

I certainly am, I did not expect Finland to beat USA after seeing how both teams performed in the group stage. Nonetheless, I consider it a pleasant surprise :-D

USA were rather poor. Finland were better but I wasn't all that convinced by their performance.

Germany should have done better tonight - they made a lot of mistakes with missed passes, etc. It was a very entertaining game however. Some great checks.

The Russia v Canada game should be good!

Nope. Classic trap game for USA. FIN had no expectations, and USA was cruising. Was hoping USA might still find a way to advance but... awfully young team that hadn't been adequately challenged IMO.

No sadly not. Yesterday's games were my last. The cost of the semis and final are really high - the total cost of those three is practically the same as it cost to see the six group games and two quarter finals.

Good start by the Finns! Sweden were on the back foot for much of the opening period.

This has been the first World Championship Tournament since The Finnish Gold Medal in 1995, that I've not been very interested at all. Didn't have much of a WC mood to begin with, and then Finland played like rubbish in the first games, so I lost the last bit of interest. Didn't even watch this game.

Finland ran out of gas in the second period unfortunately. My money is on Canada tomorrow.

How about that check by Stralman! :check:

No discussion for 2018? Anyway, what it was considered to be a long term bug in EHM, finally proved to be a function :joy: :joy:

I'm honest. it's just not fun to watch. Who cares about these high victories, please? Yes of course, the ice hockey that celebrates f.e. Finland is nice to watch, but boring. The big differences in quality destroy any excitement of the tournament. I wonder why a preliminary round is played at all? The Olympia tournament without NHL players was great.

You're right. The lopsided games are boring to watch but there were some good and exciting games as well, like USA-CAN on the first day or CZE-SUI yesterday.

And Slovakia finally earned a 3pts victory after exactly two years LOL...
