EHM - Not able to create save file

I have EHM through Steam on my 3 year old acer and have been able to play and save games since the game has been out. I tried starting to play from a saved game file and it wouldn't load. I then created a new game and it said it couldn't create a temporary saved game file, no matter what I named it.

I bought a new laptop last week and just installed steam and EHM, and I cannot create a saved game file again.

Has anyone run into this? I thought maybe it was an issue with my old laptop and not it seems to be either and issue with Steam or EHM.
