International Senior/Junior - Reputation, IIHF scores, rankings

Post by ideawithoutamind »

I searched the forum, but nothing really came up.

I was wondering if anyone had any idea how in-game is the IIHF scores or country reputations or rankings decided?

Are International Senior and Junior both weighed into these numbers?

For Tournaments, how does the tournament reputation affect teams?

I'm definitely still playing around with a lot of settings and options, but I've found some teams even go into the negative IIHF scores, so if anyone has a better idea how these work, I'd love to start a conversation about it and/or chat on discord at some point! Thanks!

International Senior/Junior - Reputation, IIHF scores, rankings

It has been years since I've looked at IIHF scores in EHM but they follow how the IIHF scores work in real life (or at least in 2014 or 2015; I don't know if things have since changed IRL but I don't think they have).

A team's score is based on how well it has performed in the World Championships over the preceding four years and the last Olympics. A greater weighting is given to the most recent season and a decreasing weighting is given to years 2 through 4. There's some really good summaries here: https://www.iihf.com/en/worldranking and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IIHF_World_Ranking

I think IIHF scoring should be little more balanced. For examole, in real life Canada beat Latvia at Olympics Sochi 2:1, while in the game Canada at WC usually beats Latvia like 15:0. What is more odd is that these same teams are playing more or less equally (Canada winning by 3:0 or 5:2, or 4:2) at WJC, which is utter nonsense, since diffirences between countries like Canada and Latvia are WAY bigger at junior level than senior.

Thank you, much appreciated.

This question is open to anyone else that knows as well, but in terms of EHM, is it only the World championships/Olympics or do all International tournaments count towards this? And is it just senior or is junior factored into this score as well?

As an example, the World Championships in game,
Championship
Div 1A
Div 1B
Div 2A
Div 2B
Div 3 -> Changing to Div 3A

If creating a Div 3B and adding Div 4 to mimic real life; would those teams also be counted and scored to the same system ? (See IIHF tournaments), if I was to recreate those tournaments in game.
