Just wanted to drop in and give thanks for this incredibly enjoyable database you've created

Is there a way to port this to a database for the current version of EHM?

Re: 1974/75: Nino's Rosters - Mario Lemieux as an 8 year old
I'd think it could be imported into the new EEHM just like any other EHM07 database; it won't be ideal/optimized (it wouldn't have the new Player Roles set, and the player Attributes were set for EHM07 and not the new EHM, etc). I have been working on a revised version for the new EHM, but it won't be ready anytime soonscottababc wrote:Is there a way to port this to a database for the current version of EHM?

I've been planning on posting about some hockey autobiographies/history books I've been reading recently but want to give special mention to this one: The Rebel League: The Short and Unruly Life of the World Hockey Association by Ed Willes
I'm about 75% of my way through the book and have learnt so much about the WHA. All I really knew beforehand was that it was a rival league to the NHL but that was about it. The book starts off with the history of how the league started and then provides a run-down of the history and memorable people from each team (one chapter per team). I'm guessing the final chapters detail the disbanding/merger with the NHL. Whilst it is a history book, it is by no means dry. It is actually very entertaining and has some great anecdotes.
One of the highlights so far has been the chapter about the "Hot Line" of Bobby Hull, Anders Hedberg and Ulf Nilsson at the Jets. Not only was this a devastatingly effective line, it paved the way for the Europeans to come into the league and for a more finesse/technique style of play. I never knew!

FYI - I have been working on this intermittently, but I am going to again take an extended break, and I think it's very unlikely I'll be continuing with the project; the project is to big with to much still to do, and I'm not willing to release anything I'm not proud of, and I want to move on/forward and do other thingsnino33 wrote: Mon Oct 16, 2017 5:15 amI have been working on a revised version for the new EHM, but it won't be ready anytime soon

I think I figured out how to get the first round bye to work in EHM. I'll revisit the NHL league structure to see if I can get realistic playoffs up and running.

I'm much more optimistic than I was last Christmasnino33 wrote: Wed Dec 19, 2018 10:20 pm FYI - I have been working on this intermittently, but I am going to again take an extended break, and I think it's very unlikely I'll be continuing with the project; the project is to big with to much still to do, and I'm not willing to release anything I'm not proud of, and I want to move on/forward and do other things
I did look at the 74DB a bit earlier in the year, but not much was accomplished (I found it hard to refamiliarize myself with where I was at, hard to get back into, lacked motivation).
In recent months my focus has been on EHM testing, and while there's more I'd like to look into (much more! HaHa), I'm going to move on from the testing/analysis at this point in time (there's not enough freetime to do everything!)
Over the last week or so I've been working on the 74DB and feel I'm making progress, and (more importantly) I'm enjoying it, and I feel like I'm getting on a roll...yay!
Just thought I'd mention the 74DB is being worked on (even with an optimistic view its still months away from a release). I'm not gonna post any specifics at this point, I'd rather just get back at it

Amazing! I for one would love to see a release which takes advantage of all the additional flexibility EHM 1 format databases have over EHM 2007.
I'll take a look at your email about league structures this weekend. Sorry for the delay - work has been so intensive for 18 months now that I struggle to find any spare time/energy. But I have plenty of time this weekend.

This morning I was looking at the 74 DB for the first time since last October
I took some time off, and then have been really busy thus far in 2021, but I've been wanting to get back at it...
It's taken some effort (and it's still ongoing) just to refamiliarize myself with where I'm at HaHa
It won't be ready for release anytime soon, but there's still hope
P.S. It was after I started working this morning that I noticed the Bernie Parent banner...seems fitting HaHa (and then I changed my avatar to Parent too)

Alas, no. Worked on it for a few days this spring and that's it this year. I just don't have the passion or interest I did in the past.
It's always possible things'll change, but it looks pretty unlikely at this point

Is there any possibility of letting me add the real life playable league structures like we experimented with a few years ago and then publicly releasing it? I know you're a perfectionist but the 74 DB is one of the best DBs we've seen for EHM and it's personally my favourite (moreso having since read The Rebel League: The Short and Unruly Life of the World Hockey Association a couple of years back). It'd be a real shame if it never saw the light of day.nino33 wrote: Thu Dec 29, 2022 3:06 pmAlas, no. Worked on it for a few days this spring and that's it this year. FYI to anyone who may be interested...work has resumed on the 74DB and progress is being made
I spoke with Arch and took him up on his offer of help (thanks so much!), and that has made a huge positive impact for me
At this point I'm thinking it'll be a few months before a release (I don't have an ETA); I'm thinking sometime in the spring or early summer

nino33 - I thought I'd post in this thread rather than barraging you with emails updating you on the status of the playable leagues. I've now got the NAHL and SHL up and running, so here's an update on the status of playable leagues in the DB:
NHL: Done but I need to slightly adjust the playoff format to mirror real life.
WHA: Done using the 73/74 structure as requested.
AHL: Done but with a 62 GP schedule instead of a 76 GP schedule. I'm going to try to create the 76 GP schedule by hand (as with the NAHL, I cannot source any real life schedule details for the AHL).
NAHL: Done but with a 70 GP schedule rather than 74 GP (I think this is the best we're going to get as it's not clear how a 74 GP schedule would work and there's no details online).
SHL: Done
Summit Series: Done but I haven't yet sussed out how to get the Skip Random Years setting to work.
To do:
- CHL
- IHL
- OHL / QMJHL / WHL / Memorial Cup
- Canada Cup
- Olympics
- World Championships

That's awesome Arch!
This occurred only once with the NHL (1972) and only once with the WHA (1974)....occurring repeatedly seems to much

Can this occur just once? Or does a series/tournament have to occur repeatedly?archibalduk wrote: Mon Jan 30, 2023 5:46 pm Summit Series: Done but I haven't yet sussed out how to get the Skip Random Years setting to work.

I think "OHL / QMJHL / WHL / Memorial Cup" might be done? You fixed my attempts at working on their league structure in May 2021, and noted then to me "There was a lot that required fixing so I won't list the changes, but all Canadian leagues and the Memorial Cup now work."archibalduk wrote: Mon Jan 30, 2023 5:46 pm To do:

As far as I know, it's not possible to have a one-off tournament. The best I can do is set the occurrence to once every four years with the "skip random years" setting enabled. This would mean that whilst it could potentially occur every four years, the game will randomly skip some of those years (but it would always occur in 1974). So after 1974, it might then occur in say 1982, 1986, 1998, etc. It would vary with each saved game. If you'd rather not have this then I can just omit it from the database (I had replaced the World Cup with the Summit Series).nino33 wrote: Tue Jan 31, 2023 9:59 pmThis occurred only once with the NHL (1972) and only once with the WHA (1974)....occurring repeatedly seems to much
It's been such a long time but that does ring a bell. It's worth me taking a look to ensure that they do reflect the correct structures. I had an error pop-up regarding the Memorial Cup scheduling when simming last week so I want to check that out in any event.nino33 wrote: Tue Jan 31, 2023 9:59 pmI think "OHL / QMJHL / WHL / Memorial Cup" might be done? Yes please to omitting the summit seriesarchibalduk wrote: Thu Feb 02, 2023 2:10 pm If you'd rather not have this then I can just omit it from the database

P.S. The Canada Cup can be called the World Cup. If the host nation can vary that's fine too (format as per email).
In the international play email I said "so maybe instead of the IRL 1976-1981-1984-1987-1991 start it could start 1977-1981-1985-1989-1993-etc...and by doing this it won't occur the same year the Olympics does" - I'm thinking it'd be better to do the years in between the Olympics, so 1974, 1978, 1982, etc
And is "skip random years" an on/off function, meaning we can have it off and the game will use the every 4 years starting in 1974 for the Canada/World Cup, but if we have it on the game will have the first one in 1974 and then random years after that? If we can choose, do we do this ingame?
Also, am I correct in thinking that ingame the Olympics will occur in 1976 and then every 4 years?
And the IRL change from the every 4 years pattern 1984, 1988, 1992, 1994, 1998 doesn't occur, and ingame it would be 1992, 1996, 2000, etc right?
