Different kind of idea for a fantasy draft challenge

Post by BlindEarth80 »

I'm not sure if something like this has been suggested already, but I thought it might be interesting to have 30 TBL users each take an NHL team and hold a fantasy draft via the message boards. Teams would then be set back to default GMs for the season and one of the admins could simulate the games and report the results.

Maybe the sims could be done twice a week, with one month of game time for each sim period; or whatever method would work the best. Then we could discuss trades with each other in between, and do our team's free agent negotiations after each season.

Let me know if you think this would be a feasible idea or not. It would be time-consuming and a lot of work, especially for the person running it, but we play against the AI all the time and there's that group of players most of us try to get every time. This would give us a chance to compete against each other.

I drive myself darn near insane (insaner?) with our forum-based fantasy drafts each season and that's only coordinating 6-10 people or so and it takes weeks. Getting 30 people from our worldwide (literally... check out our User Map 8-) ) community to draft players over 36 rounds a full fantasy draft goes iirc would be a mammoth undertaking :swamped: Then running such a league would basically be a part time job, and getting the rules set etc. would mean it would be tons of work the entire time at least with the fantsy drafts once the draft is done it's not too much work. This one though? :brix:

I love the idea, but it would have a very low percentage chance of even making it through the draft to the competition portion in reality as drop outs and people's availability would make it nightmarish. The current system works because it gets us around these kinds of problems, especially in that everyone can run their own game at home when they are available and not inconvenience others while doing it.

Yeah the pool draft was pure hell. And I quit part way through and made Minty do it for me. Sorry Minty.

It would be more possible if we just had the GM's pick a team and run with what they have now at the start of the game. It would be hell on the "SIM" guy though.
Although, skipping the draft and doing the games would be interesting, I am not sure anyone would want to put in the hours it took to do the sims. Nor am I sure about having owners active enough to deal with it.

Yeah, as fun as this sounds (and I really do like this in theory), it would be a logistical nightmare.

You're all correct, the draft would be hell. I've experienced the difficulty of it with amateur drafts in OOTP leagues. Probably the only way to make it work in a reasonable time frame would be for each person to submit a list, but that wouldn't be as much fun.

If enough people are interested in a league where we just take the original teams, I'll volunteer to be commissioner and run the sims if none of the admins can do it.
