Just my two cents on some of these:

The Wings aren't going anywhere with or without Bertuzzi. Now they have another not-fully-mentally-stable veteran with health issues, but at least they didn't overpay.

Acquiring Ryan Smyth would be a great boon to any team, and makes them that much more unpleasant to play against in the play-offs... except that a team "led" by Yashin will scare exactly nobody in the postseason.

The Zubrus move was a surprise. I have never gotten any kind of a read on this guy; he's a big, strong 28-year-old playing his 10th NHL season, and he's got some skill too. So, by all indicators, when you see him, you should be looking at a big star... and yet the only way he's managed to top 43 points is when he got paired with Ovechkin.

TheHutch: No sweat...Bieksa is high risk at times..but not as often as some other dman we had..and honestly, he is better at his position. And wow!In two days I have a Flames fan, and a Habs fan giving Vancouver credit! WOW! Now to go get a piece of some Leaf fans....heh. (take them on before the Av's...that is the ULTIMATE GOAL...make an Av's fan a believer.

To be honest: I have never ever ever, in 30 years felt the way I feel about this Canucks team and their chances. Not 94, even going into game 7. Never. It is odd. That being said, they have holes as do all teams. They have addressed the two biggest holes with their trades, and we shall see. I think they addressed their holes better than any team. They gave up relatively little, and got good value back. Especially since Soapy says he wants to stay and resign. Sounded like he would sign at a discount too.

Yes Edmonton getting good value back, and Snow gave up alot. But no way as an Oiler fan would I be happy with Smyth leaving unless they got Crosby back. No way! Especially today when trading Ryan while Wayne and Mark are there for the banner raising. Just nuts.

ETA: Plus it is concerning me that they are trading Ryan. What if this is because they (the Oilers) cannot afford him. Then all this stuff that has been said/shown about the Cap Era and the Small Market Team....ugh I don't want to think about it.

TSN still needs final confirmation, but apparently St. Louis has sent Wideman to the Bruins for Brad Boyes.

What? Who is Wideman? He better be pretty darn good if we're sending Boyes. He's just in a sophomore slump and he's been doing better lately. They better have gotten a good return on him. Ugggh!

Wideman is St Louis's best defenseman this season. I have heard in two other places that Boyes is on the move. Just not where or who for. So it is possible. (two websites FHP and a Hawk fan one) So Wideman is possible. He is also very good. Not a horrid deal, not sure it is a great one.

Yeah Wideman is not widely known. Not bad, not great. Boyes IMHO is overrated by Bruins fans anyway.... :-D He ain't Cam Neely. :-D

You could try that in real life too. I'm sure the Flyers need all the laughs they can get right now.

Boys buy your tickets: Vancouver odds at 22-1 to win the cup right now. Back east of course. Cal 12-1 and Ott 11-1. Hah! Interesting.

And yeah Mara could have got more maybe, but his salary an issue. Boyes, not too sure he would get more.

There was some talk about interest in Boyes not long ago. I'm not going to say he's super-talented but he's young, has some experience, fairly talented, and has potential to get better. I figure that's worth more than we go. Maybe the deadline is the wrong time to trade a player like that?

That means no more deals???

No not really. Boyes does have some talent, but he is at best a second line player. He is never going to be a top gun. Wideman is a 2nd or 3rd defenseman in most people's projections. He is not bad. He is actually pretty darn good on a naff team. No way does Boyes hit a homerun as a drawing card. Just does not.

he is only -7 with a rubbish team. He is their top scoring defenseman (45th in league). He is playing 20 minutes per game, and he is only 24. I would say Boston did great for him. Now and the for the future.

Flea: NO more deals can be made, however some still likely have not been confirmed by the NHL. As long as paperwork was in by 3PM EST the trade can take place.

For instance, there is a rumour (4th period dot com) that the Hawks have a deal they have made that is not processed yet. But the paperwork was in.

Chicago's deal was for Nikita Alexeev. They sent Karl Stewart and a 6th rounder to Tampa for him.

Yep about 10 minutes of nowhere. They talked contract until 20 minutes left, broke off the talks, and Lowe traded him. Unreal. Smyth's agent confirmed this on the radio here in Vancouver.

Sucks to be an Oiler's fan... but that is a hell of a prospect haul for the Oil. Welcome to the wasteland of "We have kids that could be really good someday!" like the Hawks, Speaking of which :joy: Oh yeah!! Another third liner with supposed potential for a proven hard worker who actually would slot in well as a third liner! Plus a pick which is nice to give away for the benefit... right in line with the Hawks Bidness plan.

I'm calling the Isles as my surprise team of this year's playoffs, as Smyth is a giant add for them especially as the deadline concluded without Jason Blake being dealt. The reason nobody should want to play this team and why I'm not surprised that Smyth ends up there is the man behind the bench, my candidate for the Jack Adams: Ted Nolan! Giving an indentity and attitude to the Isle.

As I said there is just no way that St. Louis was going to make a deal with Detroit. Betuzzi fits in perfectly with Detroit =D> :-p Enjoy Wings fans! muahaha Another first round exit for "Hockeytown" coming right up!

I think that Guerin is a obviously a huge add for SanJose who have been floundering about some lately. Can never have too many people with a work ethic like Guerin's. Great deal for one of my favorites to go a LONG way into the playoffs.

Speaking of floundering a bit recently Burke said he wasn't going to pay these crazy prices and he didn't. :dunno: He said he's never been much of a deadline guy and that this is a team that has been built for balance from the get-go to be playoff competetive. They are clearly in the playoffs so I don't see much stress for them not adding much more than some extra grit with May. I think it was basically impossible for him to make a deal that wouldn't have been at a high risk price and/or really hurting the team long term. I think they have the potential too for a deep run.

I don't understand the Boyes deal... I guess they are just that desperate for defense?

I also don't understand the opening of a vein by Dallas for the Kings to bring in Norstrom. That deal strikes me as almost crazier than the Smyth deal tbh.. I don't understand at all giving up all those picks to basically "upgrade" from Modry to Norstrom? Why? What was the point beside helping LA rebuild?

It's a shame he didn't, as I have a autogrpahed card of his.

Gotta love trash talking from a fan whose team is 20 points out of the playoffs and almost the worst in the divison.

Oh snap!

I feel a rant a'comin!

:-o

Chicago has a "future" to look forward to unless they keep trading it away for nothing.
