TBL is back online!

Post by archibalduk »

After about 19 hours of downtime, TBL is back online! Our site was hacked via a security hole in our Blog System. This hole has now been removed and we should now be more secure. As a result, users will no longer be able to upload images via the Blog System; users will have to use an image hosting site instead.

All of the mayhem of the server crashing (due to the hack) caused part of our database to become corrupted. This is why when we came back online last night, errors came up whenever someone tried to post. I've repaired and recovered this part of the database and it seems that we didn't lose a single bit of data!

Great job getting things fixed up and running again, guys! It's just a shame that some jerks have to ruin everyone's fun. You leave one little opening and somebody exploits it. Can't these "hackers" find a real target? Why go after a fan community site?

It's maybe the "official" unfaking crew striking again :p

But yep, why hacking a site of a bunch of no life fella like us playing hockey manager games... :-? :-?

Just like when we got hit back in the day by that anti-war group it's just one of those things where people have bots that search the net for anyone with a certain vulnerability and screw them over for "fun" :-x I hadn't seen anything on their forums about this vulnerability so it's a new exploit someone's come up with that we've addressed now... just the nature of the modern day internets unfortunately

YAY!!! I was seriously searching for some more EHM goodness yesterday & was very upset about you guys being down. Was happy to fond a thread on the other boards about it...I was afraid u all closed up shop - I almost shed a tear, then I remembered that there is no crying in hockey so I kicked my car to make it look mean...

YAY your back!!

Bah it's "only" happened twice since we've moved over to our new design based solely on phpbb. The previous hacking attempts were because we were using the very unreliable Mambo CMS. I can't promise this won't happen again because we've become a much bigger site and thus more of a target. However, I'm making it harder for these things to happen, so fingers crossed we're ok!

We would never close up shop without first telling our loyal users unless it was completely out of our hands. Our motto is "TBL Never Dies" and we really do mean this; we will keep this site going for as long as we physically can.
