Ryan Wilson 20 years old RD total stats 380+

Post by Craig Viau »

Just wondering if anyone has any information about this player. I just drafted him this year at the end of the 2007 season and he looks like he's ready for the big league but in my Team Report they have him about 13th out of 15 or so defensemen on my team including the minors. Yet looking at his stats I'm ready to trade Brad Stuart and put him in. He's awesome offensively and not great but decent on defense. Good mental and physical attributes as well.

Should I give him half a season in the AHL.

I was going to put him on the third line behind Morris and Orpik on the right side, but either 1 or 2nd on the PP. No PK time.

I drafted Wilson too. He spent the 2007-08 season in the AHL and progressed well in every area of the game. He's still not a big defensive presence, but a real threat offensively.

I don't know if i'll bring him in the big team for 2008-09, as i have Niinimaa, Morris, Stuart, Rathje, and Marc Staal already in defense, and a young prospect (Aleksei Emelin) far better than Wilson defensively and far more impressive this season at AHL level.

Anyhow, you should put him on the 3rd pair, along with some PP time. I would suggest you to pair him with an experienced defensive defenseman that has a good influence, so he'll teach defensive notions to Wilson, take the pressure of the line with his experience, and cover some of his mistakes with his defensive abilities.

Thanks

I never thought about the influence thing.

Right now I have

Pitkanen with D. Morris
Ohlund with B. Stuart
Kulyash with Orpik

Based on what you said I should put him with Ohlund on the second line.

Or Orpik and move Kulyash up.

I have Marc Staal as well but I looked at his stats and I don't think he's ready but I'm just heading into the 2007/2008 season. I also have Khomitski who looks promising as well on the left and Doug Lynch who looks very promising on the right side. The all need another at least one more season. Lynch and Khom are both 24 I think Staal is only 20.

I don't know Kulyash well enough to judge him. Wilson with Ohlund would be a good pair. But i'm not sure Wilson is ready yet to play on the second pair, and it would be a bit stupid to use Ohlund only on the third pair, even if Stuart could do the job well on the 2nd pair, as he's firstly a LD.

Marc Staal was rookie with me in the 2007-08 season and did well. He's been on the third pair along with Berehowsky (mainly), Therien (my defensive backup), or Hulse (i had him as a second defensive backup during a long time due to many injury issues). All of them are experienced, have a good influence, and are strong defensively, helping Staal to progress along the season and make good things. He also played PP and PK minutes, but seen less and less icetime as we get closer of the playoffs because i want to win the Cup this season. I'm now in the Conference Finals, and he plays on the 3rd pair with Berehowsky or Therien, and gets some 2nd line PK time too. He still makes mistakes from time to time, but that's normal for a 20 years old rookie.

I always draft Wilson too, in 07-08 in the ECHL (as I have a backlog of d prospects in the system so I wanted him to get good playtime) he finished with 78 points, +76 with 19 goals and 59 assists, average rating 8.04 =D>

Ryan Wilson is personally one of my favorite to draft in the first year because he is normally drafted 15th or more overall so its easier to aquire him and also he becomes a pretty badass defenceman. I am 3 years into my dynasty and he is on the 2nd line with 18wristshot, 18 stickhandling, and 19 slapshot. His positioning may be bad but for a offensive defenceman you can't expect him to have a good +/-.

In all my dynasties so far, I always drafted Ryan Wilson, as he really is quite easy to get and turns out to become a good offensive d-man. I'm currently in the 2012/13 season and Wilson is playing second line together with Ossi Väänänen, racking up good numbers. Only Pitkänens stats are better than his.

After reading this thread, I did a player search but he wasn't listed. My franchise is currently in the '11-'12 season.

That's odd! The only reason I could think for him to not be there at that point would be if he had a career ending injury. I don't think you need any special database settings (like full or whatever it is) to have him show up.

That's what I figured, he must have gotten Bertuzzi'd or something.

This is in the player search though, for the entire database.

A. The quick search can be flakey sometimes... and make sure you are set to look for players not staff. Also, try seeking him out via the full player search (where you look for them by attributes).

B. Some players don't end up in your game if you don't set your game options to use a complete large database.

B. would probably explain it for me, as when I look for players I go under Player Search and look alphabetically.

I had a similar issue with Kulyash, he is in the game and I now even own his rights but I couldn't find him with the search option.
